Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyHonestly, everything was great. Nothing negative to report it was all very nice.
I had such a wonderful stay at Kanda Homestay in the heart of Sidemen. The property is beautiful, with spotless, comfortable rooms that had everything I needed. The family who runs the homestay is incredibly warm and welcoming they even organized a same day day trip for me to see stunning waterfalls, vanilla plantations, and other hidden local gems. There’s also a lovely restaurant just a five-minute walk away, and breakfast was provided in the morning. A truly authentic Balinese experience that I’d highly recommend! 🌿✨

I enjoyed this stay very much. Jack has an adorable mindset and big heart. For me as a cat lover there could not have been any better place with all the rescue kitties around and so clean and well kept. Beautiful tropical plants all around the house making it look like a mini jungle. And the room was so so beautiful! Natural materials and the design so warm and chic at the same time. Big bathroom, also very nice and hot water all the time what was quite essential at the time of my stay😄 Well walkable distance to anywhere in Sidemen and surroundings. Unfortunately I could not join any of Jacks private tours but will keep this for my next visit!

FranceI spent only two days here, but it was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with incredible warmth and kindness. The accommodation was perfect — peaceful, well-equipped, and surrounded by nature. The breakfast was exceptional, and everything was exactly as described… if not better. But above all, it’s the people I’ll never forget. During my stay, I had a scooter accident, and they didn’t hesitate for a second — they spent the entire day with me, taking me to the hospital, staying by my side, and making sure I was okay. I had never experienced such genuine kindness and care in my life. It was a true immersion in the local culture, filled with humanity and generosity. Leaving was heartbreaking. I feel deeply grateful to have crossed paths with such incredible hosts. A heartfelt thank you to Jack’s brother, to Nick, to Madé, and to Jack himself — your kindness truly moved me. ❤️ I highly recommend this place to any traveler looking for an authentic Balinese experience, a real sense of escape, and above all, true human connection. The exchanges I had here were truly unforgettable.

New ZealandLovely guest house in Sidemen, with three well-presented ensuite rooms. The owner (Jack) is super helpful, and if you get the chance go on his day tour of rice paddies, local village life, a beautiful waterfall, and lunch at his sister's house. It's a short walk down the road to eat at local warungs or hotel/resort restaurants. Enjoyed my stay, this is the real Bali.

AustriaVery nice, authentic accommodation in a quiet area. Many restaurants within walking distance. It made our stay very special when we went on a trip with Jack. It was an unforgettable experience to see the daily life of the locals. We had a delicious, authentic lunch at his sister's house, saw how traditional sarongs are made. We also saw how a local spirit, arak, is made. When you book here you don't just get a place to stay, you get an experience of a lifetime! Especially recommended if you want to experience the real Bali and not just the touristy places.

GermanyDo not book Kanda Homestay if you don‘t like cats and dogs or if you don‘t like to have contact to local people. We enjoyed that but not all of our neighbours in the homestay did.
Kanda Homestay is a tiny private accomodation which is run by Jack an his whole family. There are 3 rooms with fan in total to accomodate up to 6 guests. It is really quiet and relaxing there and a lot of plants around. There are also living 2 dogs and 6 cats in the homestay. They are vaccinated and in good condition and sometimes come on your terrace to play or getting a cuddle. Since the homestay is so small the contact to the family is really close and you can learn a lot about life of balinese people, hinduism and the sidemen area. Therefore, we went on a tour through the ricefields with Jack which ended up with a balinese lunch at his sister‘s house. We really enjoyed that soo much. Also, Jack has really good connections and organized several tours and transportation for us for a good price. You can also rent a scooter or do your laundry at the homestay. Thank you very much again for this really good time at your homestay!

ItalyThis place has really good energy and it attracts a lot of pets - meaning you might have some cat & dog neighbours :) This was not a problem for me but worth noting for you.
If you book this you will not only get a great homestay, but also what will most likely be the best host you’ve ever had. I spent 2 days with Jack doing rafting, visiting the oldest and biggest Bali temple, walking through rice fields, visiting a hidden waterfall, learning how sarongs are made.. Bonus: great photos and delicious lunch at Jack’s sister. Perfect also if you’re a solo traveller like me. Thank you Jack for memories that I will cherish forever :)

The room was beautifully furnished, very comfortable bed, gorgeous bath w hot shower. The porch was wonderful to sit out on in the evenings or mornings with the delicious breakfast. The family hosts were exceptional, very kind and gracious. Jack led us on a wonderful hike through a rural village and rice fields, waterfalls with a few cultural stops (Ikat weaving, arak distillery ). Our favorite stay in Bali so far. Highly recommend.

FranceThe rooms are on the ground floor and the blinds don't cover the windows entirely, so you don't really have any privacy as the hosts and other guests pass by. I was under the impression that my room had an outdoor shower (as shown int eh pictures) but it didn't, so I was a bit disappointed about this. The WiFi was very weak, unstable and most of the time completely down. The hosts said it's because it was raining, but restaurants and cafes around didn't seem to have the same problem. Also I didn't have any telkomsel reception there so basically no internet at all, which made it hard to plan the next steps of my trip.
This place is lovely, decorated with taste, clean and comfortable. The balcony and the garden are beautiful and loved finding cute cats napping on the chairs. The hosts helped me organise a 2hrs trek in the rice fields for 200k with a really nice guide.

IndiaThere were few cute cats at the house who made sure we couldn’t keep the doors or windows open as they loved the bed as much as we did. Since there was no Air conditioning keeping windows and doors shut meant we had a rather warm night than we would prefer.
Good clean spacious rooms. Right in the middle of Sidemen ‘town’. There’s no view or garden as of such but the rooms are very aesthetically pleasing. The people were all lovely and helped us with our little requests.

GermanyWish it had Aircon because it could get a bit hot but we had a big ventilator that worked well! Sometimes the shower was a bit cold
We stayed there 3 nights in total and loved it, the owner Jack is super nice and has a big heart! We did a day tour with him and saw an authentic side of Bali & Sidemen, which we loved! We saw rice fields, a waterfall, had lunch @ his sister's and learned how to make Arak, sarongs and how to climb a coconut palm! He has rescued several cute cats and puppies that love to say hello to the guests. The Homestay is a quiet oasis in Sidemen, you can walk to several warungs to eat there. The WiFi worked well. Bed had a mosquito net.
