I really liked the staff. They are very nice and friendly people. There were also delicious breakfasts and a good location.

High humidity in the room, you need to improve the smell in the room. And put a new hairdryer, because it was very weak.

Great design, with a combination of modern urban style and traditional Javanese. Breakfast is good and more Cafe style than the same same you can encounter around. Nice swimming pool and firecamp by night. The location is nice, 5 minutes from Blanco. The place is very clean.

    1. Humidity inside the room is extreme. Until even I cannot charge my phone because it find there is “liquid” inside the charging port. They provide a small dehumidifier but useless. 2. Bed mattresses are split and very hard in the middle, not comfy for couples. 3. The parking is sharing with the neighbors house and it has dozens of free chickens, who makes it dirty on the floor and even on top of the motorbikes. Smelly and not hygienic 4. Staff is very friendly but sometimes too oppressive. 5. They give as gadget a keychain “I love Jogja”. I love Jogja too, but we are in Bali…

A very unusual stay:) The rooms are very different from all the others we saw during the trip. You get huge glass windows facing a jungle and there is a waterfall on the territory of the hotel which you can hear day and night - it’s kind of calming..) The welcoming part was nice - they bless you:) The sleep was deep! It was a nice stay overall

It’s a retreat so if you just need 2-3 days maybe you can choose something even closer to downtown. You have to walk from the road to the hotel 3 min down the alley - there is no car access Breakfast was not so good - I mean we did not expect anything fancy but there was like no choices at all ( it’s fine for us - we had breakfast outside)

    Property response:

Dear Ekaterina, Thank you so much for sharing your experience — we’re glad to hear your stay felt unique and calming. The jungle views and the sound of the waterfall are indeed something special, and we’re happy they added a peaceful touch to your trip. It’s also lovely to know that you appreciated our welcome ritual and had a restful sleep — that means a lot to us. We understand your comments about the breakfast and the access to the property. Your feedback is valuable, and we’ll take it into consideration as we continue to improve our services. We truly appreciate your visit and hope to welcome you again in the future — whether for another retreat or just a short escape into nature. Warm regards, Mega

I love the surrounding environment, it’s breathtaking and idyllic. I’ve tried the massage “ibu knows better/best” and it was quiet nice and relaxing. Especially, if you are experiencing muscle pain from days of yoga classes. The breakfast varied from day to day (from my own experience it consists of one main dish (indonesian dish), fried eggs, fruits with granola and yoghurt, and various type of indonesian traditional snack. It’s a good place to stay for unwinding from usual stressful daily life.

Far from convenient store, so better pack up nicely for your own daily stuff. If you bring your own car you have to park your car on the side of the road.

    Property response:

Dear Ester, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're delighted to hear that you had such an enjoyable and relaxing stay with us. It’s wonderful to know that you appreciated the peaceful and idyllic surroundings — nature truly plays a big part in the experience we hope to offer. We’re also glad you enjoyed the “Ibu Knows Best” massage — it’s a guest favorite, especially after some intensive yoga sessions! We’re happy the breakfast variety added to your stay and gave you a taste of local flavors. Your tip about bringing personal essentials is appreciated and will surely be helpful to future guests. Thank you again for your kind words and thoughtful feedback. We hope to welcome you back soon for another peaceful escape. Warm regards, Mega

Large room with large bed, nice view on the garden. Staff was very welcoming and the breakfast was very good. Garden is great relaxing! recommended for architecture lovers :)

The structure need maintenance in the common areas, somewhere seems quite abandoned to its destiny. The room is completely built in CONCRETE (furnitures also are in concrete), with some mould on the walls and ceiling. no air circulation in the room, and bed a bit hard. Comfort is not at 100%, but still good

I liked the design and the lower rooms layout -

I do really like to leave a positive comments but i really struggle with this particular property, my expectations were high form the visuals on there listing, The entrance is an alley so you need to be prepared to carry your luggage 150 - 200m to your room, you cannot get a vehicle down, but staff are on hand and happy to help out. During our stay we had a lot of rain this caused problems with this property because the rooms had a very unpleasant smell due to the moisture, you had to run the AC 24/7 to get rid of the smell - the positioning of the outdoor lighting glares straight into your bedroom windows at night which caused problems sleeping, they eventually turned them off for us. The frogs and rooster noises were relentless all night I feel exhausted from lack of sleep the pool, the pool needed a clean but hard to use anyway as all the decking is getting replaced. I am sure there is a different experience to be had when the weather is dryer.

    Property response:

Dear Matthew, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly grateful you appreciated the design and layout of the lower rooms, and we're glad our staff could assist you with your arrival. We’re sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations, especially due to the weather-related challenges. Unfortunately, the recent heavy rains have impacted some areas of our property more than usual, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We’re actively working to address the moisture issue and improve the overall guest experience, including better ventilation and more adaptable lighting solutions. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the pool and decking area — this is part of our current renovation effort to enhance comfort and usability for future stays. Thank you again for your honest review. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back during a drier season, when you can enjoy the property at its best. Warm regards, Mega

I loved the room — it was on the upper floor with a great view of palm trees and rice fields. Spacious and comfortable. The hotel and grounds are well-maintained and charming. Great location — a bit outside the center, but surrounded by rice fields and nature. With a scooter, you’re in the center in 10–15 minutes. Breakfast is simple but tasty, and the staff is very friendly and relaxed. Just a note: the common areas like the restaurant and pool are also used by the staff during their breaks, which gives the place a relaxed, homey vibe.

For a longer stay, a wider breakfast selection would be nice. I had a room with a kitchen — the equipment was a bit worn, and a deep clean would have been appreciated (though I didn’t request one). Still, the room was clean and very comfortable throughout my stay. There was really nothing to officially complain about, and I’d happily return — everything mentioned is simply meant as friendly feedback.

Beautiful hotel with a great design, but beware! The hotel is stylish and beautifully designed, with a great atmosphere. However, I had an unfortunate experience—after checking out, I realized I had left my phone charging cables in the room. When I contacted the hotel, they simply said that nothing was found. It’s disappointing that lost items are not properly handled. So, if you stay here, double-check your belongings before leaving!

You should stay at Gunang An if you are looking to relax for a few days, and have good mobility with a motorbike etc (something you can also rent there). The reviews on Google and Booking saying it is mouldy bla bla bla are NOT true, its pretty damn comfortable, the hosts are very friendly and helpful. I do have some criticisms, but the desk in the top floor room was VERY solid to see the jungle area and rice fields while working in an Air Con enabled room. Its nice to be an observer to nature while not being over run by it. The retreat is more of a hidden hotel in progress than a super relaxing retreat in the typical sense, but we have no complaints and we enjoyed the stay & hospitality! Wifi was 10/10. Oh, and the JUNGLE AROUND GUNANG AN IS VERY HEAVY IN SPIRITUAL ENERGY - LIKE MACHU PICHU OR SOMEWHERE SIMILAR. Lots of temples nearby and on the property, and if you are open to that kind of energetic power, or have had trauma of medicinal experiences making you physiologically prone to feeling spiritual energy, this place is very special, specifically at night. Its more of a spiritual retreat than a place to go for relaxation persé.

Its quite inaccessible and that is somewhat off-putting, the common areas are not inviting to hang around in during the day, the breakfast is very basic (despite it being delicious), and the entire property is still in construction so while it was very pleasant and NOT like recent negative reviews, it is also something I would keep in mind - the noise of construction that didn't bother us but might bother some. The main negatives (that is very reasonable given the location and type of accommodation): - Bugs in the room - geckos, ants, mosquitos a tiny bit, spiders, etc. This is minor, and overall the room was very well protected from the elements and the Air Con worked amazingly (The rooms are so big it usually isn't an issue but some travellers are super preppy, so keep that in mind if you are) - The price; it is definitely not worth the price we paid. It is worth 50-60% of what we paid maximum. I LOVED the stay and my wife did too, but if we knew how it was for the price, I would not have stayed here. Despite it being very positive our stay, that is why I couldn't give it s 10 out of 10...
