How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSet in a peaceful location with absolutely stunning stunning scenery. The pool is amazing. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. Lovely products in the bathroom and a great coffee machine. The restaurant is great. The staff are fantastic. Especially Ari. Ari is a treasure.
It would be good for the hotel to invest in a water filtration unit for guests drinking water. Reducing plastic waste is good for the planet 🌍

Verified reviewThe gardens are wonderful, scenery and views amazing, pool large, alluring and heated…everything is great on the surface. Underneath, however…there are issues. The kind and generous staff holds this place together, as is so all over the island. The Balinese people are truly wonderful. They did provide some free shuttles to waterfalls and sites, which is great because transportation is difficult unless you bring your own.
Cleanliness…I should have had them come back and clean again, upon my arrival but I didn’t. Instead I did it myself. Yes, we’re in the jungle and one would expect bugs but during my month in Bali, I never had this much trouble with them in the room and on the bed. I’m guessing it’s due to the structure of the high wooden rafters and open sided ceiling. May I suggest mosquito netting? Might help with things falling on the bed. The restaurant is not 5 star as reviews would suggest. Reviews are incentivized with gifts of free stuff. Anything for a free ice cream, right? Food is greatly lacking and I dare say they know this, which is why they incentivize reviews. This is not a Balinese owned hotel, btw. That said, if you’re just staying for included breakfast, you’re all set. Lots of variety and as much as you can eat.
Dear Ms. Laura, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely happy to hear that you enjoyed our gardens, the scenic views, and the service from our team — we’re proud of our staff and their commitment to hospitality. We’re sorry to hear, however, that other aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations. We do our best to maintain cleanliness in all rooms, and we encourage guests to let us know immediately if anything is not to their satisfaction so we can address it on the spot. As our hotel is located in a jungle setting, some natural elements such as insects can be more present, despite regular pest control and our ongoing efforts to manage this. Your suggestion regarding mosquito netting is appreciated and will be considered as we continue to improve. Regarding our restaurant, we respect your opinion, though we’re surprised by the claim about incentivized reviews. We do not offer free items in exchange for positive ratings — we sometimes share small treats as a gesture of appreciation, regardless of reviews. Lastly, we would like to clarify that Giriwood is proudly operated by a local Balinese team with deep roots in the community. We always welcome constructive feedback and will use your comments to keep improving. Wishing you all the best in your future travels. Best, Giriwood Team

Verified review- lovely staff - nice big room - comfy beds with quality linen - very clean - wonderful views - close to waterfalls - heated pool
- slight sewage smell in the bathroom - location is on a hill by itself so can’t walk to anywhere - the pool has some steps with sharp edges

Verified reviewIt was located with a view to the jungle. Was very serene and relaxing. The room had a special feel, like a treehouse. It felt very private even though other rooms were closeby. The design of the rooms meant your balcony faced out and didnt look upon anyone else. The other windows alternated so no window faced another rooms.
The location was a bit far from any walkable activities. Everything had to be done through a driver or other transport. Also we thought we would be looking at the twin lakes, but the hotel is located on the other side of the ridge.

Verified reviewA whole cottage in the middle of the forest with a covered balcony that invites everyone to relax. Close to so many waterfalls and temples. Heated pool, restaurant on site and helpful receptionists who can arrange cars with drivers at reasonable prices.
There are lots of stairs, but they have staff who can help with luggage. No lift though, cottages are in the middle of nature. A bit cold and windy in the evening, different climate than the rest of Bali, but this is outside the hotel’s control, just a warning to pack a jacket as well.
