Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe place is really run down. Although it is designed to be rustic, it is dusty and old and needs some maintenance. There are no screens, so you need to shut everything up at night. We stayed in the apartment with a kitchen, which was good for the extra space, but it was a bit like camping. There were caterpillars crawling through the apartment and lots of ants. It was dark with not much natural light, and the lighting was dull. I didn't like the bathroom. The kitchen living area was the nicest space, but it was dusty and still exposed to insects. The grounds need some work. The photos make it look a lot better than it is. The pool was really dirty when we arrived but we did notice that they cleaned it the next day but they had to use way too much chlorine, so we didn't swim in it.
We loved the location. It was quiet but still close to the harbour, sunset restaurants and beach. The bed and pillows were super comfortable with a good mosquito net around it. The air-conditioning worked well, breakfast was good and the staff were lovely and helpful.

AustraliaLovely staff and a really nice property. It’s not ‘fancy’ but our room had a lovely relaxed layout with good bedding and mosquito net. A very easy place to relax and unwind and great value. Again — staff and service were a highlight.

United KingdomI had a comedy routine with a stray cat that had moved in before me that refused to leave. Having given him attention which did not stop his meowing constantly or clawing at me I tried to evict him for over an hour; I sent him behind the drapes & he reappeared from the other side (no walls to keep him out). Eventually I gave up as he was there first.
The magic in this place is at night behind the mosquito net, in the dark, with a breeze …& then being woken up by the birds song in the adjacent tree. I spent 3 nights here & felt like the Queen of Sheba. Good breakfast & kind, helpful staff. On my final morning I discovered the best ocean for swimming just at the end of the street to the right. Clear deep blue sea with a nice wave or two. The pool was beautiful to hang out in & well maintained.

United KingdomEverything was perfect
Big spacious rooms, great air-con and super comfy bed. The pool is fantastic. The grounds are super clean and beautiful. The location is perfect, just far enough from the Main Street but a few minutes walk to the beach for the sunset/all the restaurants and only 10 mins walk from the harbour. The staff are amazing, so kind and friendly! The free breakfast is soooo good, super yummy and a great portion size. Always delivered with a smile. Thank you to you all for making my time here so special. I was booked in for a week but I loved it here so much I extended my stay by another 4 days on my 2nd day of being here, it's a little piece of heaven in Gili Air and I will definitely come back here on my next visit 🙏🏼❤️

United KingdomThe bathroom could do with a refurb. The water was intermittent as well as the temperature. If it’s very windy you may not enjoy the room as the curtains were blowing around and the lamp was knocked over and smashed
We stayed in the room that was an open room upstairs with just curtains. I really liked it as it was different and meant it was airy and bright. Swimming pool was nice. WiFi was decent. Breakfast really nice.

AustraliaI loved my stay at Elephant House - no complaints
This is an outstanding place to stay - the local staff who run the Elephant House are gracious, kind, professional and very hard working. The rooms have simple decor but are very comfortable and provide a more authentic Gili Air experience than a modern hotel would. The staff keep all spaces spotlessly clean. The central pool is a focal point and an essential cooling off spot when temperatures climb and/or when the tide is out. The gardens are a pleasant backdrop to the pool area. And the breakfasts are great - use of local produce. It is a short walk to the West Beach waterfront with an array of watersport and restaurant venues. In the evenings you can hear music from the waterfront venues - but it is a pleasant background sound - not loud. The sunset at the local beach is not to be missed. The Elephant House does not pretend to be more than it is - extremely good, reasonably priced, comfortable simple accommodation that, for me, felt like a home away from home.

DenmarkThe hosts where a gentleman who spoke English, and some younger guys who did speak english but not that good. They were very sweet but dont expect them to arrange your stay on the island - it isn't that hard to figure out on your own though.
Nice place of the busy road and more silent from the mosque, than other places on Gili Air. Pool was nice, very relaxing stay. Room with great aircon, nice bathroom with shower, covered in net for protection from mosquitoes.

AustraliaWhat’s not to like about a lovely bungalow on a small tropical island?🏝️
The staff, the staff and the staff! Great location, just a slow 2 minute walk to the sunset beach and yet quiet and peaceful. Nice saltwater pool and each bungalow with a nice garden view terrace. Decent and quiet air conditioning. I loved the rustic charm and warm welcome. To be very honest, this is a relatively cheap place on a tiny island in Indonesia. There are a few rough patches and so, if you’re a princess, maybe you would be better off paying way more for a luxury resort on Lombok or Bali. Maybe the Ritz Carlton in Mallorca. The people at Elephant Bungalows are doing their very best to make you happy. Enjoy the experience. I loved it. A word of caution however: The beautiful, and exotic, open air room upstairs, was not to my liking due to the early morning light and the fact that I am addicted to air conditioning. Would DEFINITELY stay again ❤️

Best staff ever! So friendly, attentive and caring. They definitely made the difference. Opi and Alex were always happy and smiling. The owner, a lovely Australian lady, was super friendly and generous. The pool is very nice and a smallish, but delicious breakfast, made the mornings something to look forward to. It’s only a small place so you are really made to feel at home. The location is great, just a short walk to the popular sunset beach side but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. I was very happy here, and especially after I moved to one of the air conditioned bungalows. The open air room is stunningly beautiful but it didn’t suit my needs ie, being able to sleep at night. I really need air conditioning, but if you don’t, then the upstairs, open air room is a unique experience! I really enjoyed my time at Elephant House and Bungalows. I would definitely stay here next time I come to Gili Air. I
