How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We had a room next to a water pump, it was very noisy, we heard clicking every single time someone used water.

Verified reviewThis is hard for me. I have never said this before: I cant really say how my stay was, as I turned around and walked out. Let me be very clear, the owner ( who I spoke on the phone with) seemed accommodating and apologetic for the confusion on my arrival. Like nobody knew I was coming. Some unknown woman immediately approached me asking for passport & payment. (It was prepaid through booking.com) the property seemed sort of nice. But I tell you, I don’t know when those pictures were taken for booking.com. But the bungalow I was shown to looked absolutely nothing like them. Maybe 15 years ago. I have stayed in hostels and all sorts of stars hotels. So for me to walk out and forfeit the entire cost - immediate book something else- says everything. Note to booking.com - mandatory update of pictures every couple of years.
Pretty much everything.

The room smelled a bit wet

Verified reviewbreakfast was inadequate. The hotel was shabby, black mould in bathroom ceiling, the plumbing leaked in the bathroom, hotel informed us that they did not provide clean towels or room cleaning even for a 3 night stay. advertised but no on site restaurant - potholes and rocky path with no lighting to go to the main street, where minimal food was available and not tasty food. In all felt like a hotel and a town that was depressed and uncared for

Verified reviewGreat location Small hot water pool on site Nice staff on site and it’s recommendations for meals and hot baths Support of the manager (not on site) via booking chat to organise our arrival and once on site (except trek organisation - refer to “points to improve” part)
Bathrooms “from an other age” that may need to be refreshed Flies everywhere during the day (not linked to the guesthouse itself) , what is really annoying Unfair price suggested by the manager (not on site) to organise mont Batur trek. Explanations that this price is “the same for all” is absolutely false as we have found far less expensive by ourselves directly in the village, with the same services…
Thank you for your feedback we appreciate it and I would like to clarify a few things for other guests that may read this. Firstly I am Nicky the Managing Director of the guest house so I wish to respond to the guests comments. Secondly we are already aware of the issues with the bathrooms and currently in the process of ordering materials and waiting for a quiet period to fully renovate all of our bathrooms 🙏 In regards to the trekking I was very honest and open with our price and why we are unable to negotiate as much as others. We are members of the Mount Batur Trekking Association when you trek through us we purchase your entry tickets, provide you with 1 guide (1 guide to maximum 5 pax) breakfast and report to the association you are on the mountain so if something goes wrong you are covered by insurance and assistance from the association is provided - these are fixed prices for us and can not be negotiated, others selling trekking for extremely low prices are not following these guidelines. After reviewing my conversation with you via booking at no point was I rude, forceful or push you to book trekking with us I assisted you and provided you with all the information you asked for, you returned late from dinner and I told you I would send staff to talk to you right away if you wished to do the sunrise trek, but you wished to trek during the day so I told you I would get the staff to speak to you in the morning as we do not have staff on site 24/7, but it seems you had already booked another option whilst you were out for dinner, yet you still told me you wished to continue the conversation in the morning, you never continued the conversation! So please do not say we are overpriced and trying to rip you off. I am a foreigner living in bali very close to the guesthouse but unable to be present due to not being able work due to my visa, so I assisted you the best way I was able via booking messages, I was never forceful or rude or tried to rip you off and my staff also informed me that you spoke very badly of me to them, my partner in guesthouse was in my company the night I discussed the trekking with you and he has seen the messages and he also knows I was never impolite and I responded immediately to all your messages so I was available and answered everything you asked and needed within minutes of you sending your enquiry. Our trekking price is not high and we are always open to negotiate but we can only go so far because we have to be able to pay the expenses related to your trip. I am a very easy going and flexible person and I, my partner and our staff do the best we can to make and help everyone to have a great stay. So your comments about me in your review and directly to my staff are offensive!

Verified reviewIt was close to the trailhead for the Mt Batur hike which is why we went to Kintamani. Walking distance to a few restaurants. Small dipping pool fed by natural hot springs was pleasant in the evening. Hot water shower. Tasty noodles for breakfast. Bed sheets were clean. For the remote area, it was not a bad place to stay; I may stay again, but I also would search to see if there were other options.
It would have been nice if they provided drinking water for the rooms. Rooms could have been cleaner and updated. We organized the sunrise hike through them and were told we'd have 2 guides for our group of 6, but only had 1.

Verified reviewThis guest place was a quiet retreat even though it was so close to the main road into Uluwatu. The pool was excellent on the hot days with pool towels provided and we were pleased to be able to prepare food etc in the small outdoors kitchenette provided. Good fridge there too. Near to many food outlets.
Facecloths, would be good to have.

Verified reviewIt was a convenient location to commence Mt Batur trekking. Handy having a family room available which is rare in Bali. Room comfortable but the bed was rock hard, definitely need new mattresses. There is a small pool on site that has the hot spring water which was enjoyable. Host gave us a good price for the mt batur hike and supplied walking sticks & head torches which was appreciated.
Took over an hour every morning for breakfast. One of the hosts’ English wasn’t great, so when we tried to organise a customised trip it was very hard. We ended up finding locals on the street and organising a few activities through them instead. The safe didn’t have power or batteries so we couldn’t use it.

Verified reviewBreakfast was yummy. The garden was beautiful with avocado trees. Perfect accommodation for accessing the Mount Batur sunrise trek.
The rooms, walls, bathroom were dirty. Not having mosquito nets makes it difficult to let some fresh air into the room. And as there was no fan or AC, it was either boiling hot or full of mosquitos. We were told that sunrise trek can be booked significantly cheaper with them. It was actually more expensive than coming from Ubud, getting the drive, visiting coffee plantation. We pre-ordered the breakfast the night before for last morning, so that we can leave early. It wasn't ready in time, had to follow up.
We are incredibly sorry for the issues that you endured, we appreciate your feedback and have brought some important issues to light, we are currently in the process of addressing these. Please note that our trekking is limited to a maximum of 5 pax per group, you may not be aware that the cheap prices given in ubud are due to clients being placed in extremely large groups with limited guides and most clients are not made aware of that. We have fixed prices for trekking that we are obligated to pay to the Trekking Association and guides, we can not negotiate these prices as they are not set by us. I am aware that the guide we provided did not do his job and provide you with breakfast as he should have, he has since been removed from our trekking tours. The late breakfast was our fault, I notified the staff once receiving your request and chatted with them several times to reinforce that they were aware of your early departure and they did not meet the requirements. Again our sincere apologies and the lessons learnt from this have been passed on to our staff so that the same mistakes are not made again.

Verified reviewLocated at the foot of Mount Batur that enables you to trek directly up to the volcano to see the amazing sunrise. The property also has a beautiful garden and a direct view of Lake Batur from the back balcony. They also have a small hot spring pool that you can access at your convenience. The staff is very friendly and reachable at anytime. The room itself minus the bathroom is fine.
The bathroom could use a major overhaul. The toilet seat and cover is broken. Also, the toilet has no room in front of it to put your feet making it unsafe to use and stand. As a matter of fact, the entire bathroom is dirty everywhere including the floor, and it smells like a urine pit. You have to close the bathroom door to keep the smell in place. No shampoo and soap were provided although nicely rolled up towels were present. The room only has a fan with no a/c unit. There were lots of flies and mosquitoes that it was difficult to keep them from getting into the room.
