How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStunning location, we had the entire place to ourselves. This is a beautiful property in a quiet location. The room was clean and with nice, modern and comfortable furnishings. Staff were kind and quite helpful although the manager seemed to be more interested in avoiding responsibility than providing solutions. Other staff were lovely. We really loved that we were allowed to bring our dog with us.
I really wish the description on booking.com was more accurate to manage expectations and that they'd add some basic facilities to what is quite an expensive room. Contrary to the description, there is no private kitchen or fridge in the Presidential Suite, you have access to facilities up in the main house which is helpful, but not as described and sold. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted to enjoy the beautiful ocean view with some beers and champagne on the terrace and a platter. All of which we'd brought with us since the room was advertised as having a fridge. There is no fridge, not even a little bar fridge. There is no coffee machine in the room (again this was advertised). There is no kitchen. So the original solution offered by the staff was to put everything in the fridge up in the main house, which is quite a walk, not the peaceful and secluded evening we'd envisaged going back and forth. Finally we requested some ice to keep things chilled in the cooler bag we'd brought with us. This was eventually provided for which we were grateful. I really recommend the owners better support their staff and put some more though into the customer experience and add some basic facilities to the room at a minimum a small fridge and coffee machine with proper coffee. This is the minimum I'd expect for the price. Further, please manage guests expectations with an accurate description on booking.com.

Verified reviewThis was our third stay at Balian Prana, it is still a dreamlocation and dreamvilla in a dreamgarden! Staff is very friendly, breakfast is good and you can rent a scooter or use the scooter taxi service of the villa to go to restaurants in the village. Also the beach is gorgeous, unspoilt and nearly empty.
Owner should do some maintenance regarding the ceilings on the veranda

Verified reviewOne of our favorite accommodation on Bali. We have 2 small dogs and the big garden is so amazing. Mu husband also loves the big pool and the ocean view is a 10/10. It's the perfect hidden gem for a relaxing getaway surrounded by the beauty of Balis nature. Also the staff and service is always lovely!

Verified reviewThis is a very special place. I had visited Balian in 2014 for its perfect left hand break. This visit was to reset mentally. Balian Prana allowed us to do just this. Mr Dwi and his small team were welcoming, there when needed and absent when not required. We felt that for 2 lovely days, this place was ours. There was another family in the other presidential villa across and back from us, although we never really felt they were there. We ordered in from local restaurants, which was fine as there is no typical kitchen /room service other than for breakfast, but this was just fine. It added to the non-hotel, secluded feel which is what we were looking for. Our dinners ordered in were enjoyed on the balcony of the main house in which the attentive staff assisted us with setting up. All this while allowing our minds to run free as light danced off the swimming pool and ocean beyond from beautiful sunsets.
Leaving.

Verified reviewI love the place we're staying, the gorgeous view, and the great services. The interior design is also stunning as well as the garden. It was such a perfect place for us to stay during NYE.
It's not their fault, but there aren't a lot of Western restaurants nearby. Which makes it hard for food options.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was very good. Balian Prana is very smart and beautifully decorated with interesting objects. Fabulous library! Stunning views and gardens! Beautiful sea breezes! I very much enjoyed my stay.
I missed a kettle with coffee and tea in the room! It was quite a bit out of the way. It would be very handy to have had some transportation!

Verified reviewIf you are looking for a quite, private, low-profile luxury stay at Bali, this is your place. Amazing villas with a stunning ocean view. If you are looking for a place to enjoy the view and wether in a quite place with complete privacy, go to Balian Prana.
One small thing that does not match so carefully designed place are the covers of the in-room information books. They really must be replaced asap.

Verified reviewThe location is quite remote and it’s exactly what we wanted. The property is beautiful, spacious and tastefully decorated, the room is the epitome of low-key luxury. The infinity pool was a wonderful treat where you can swim to the sounds of waves and birds.
Everything was wonderful.

Verified reviewThe location next to a beautiful, not touristy beach. Not quite black sand, but close enough for an incredible sunset. Staff didn't speak much if any (depending on the person) English but tried their best to help and we always managed with Google translate. Facilities like the kitchen are great for longer stays. The infinity pool is absolutely epic. The rooms are huge. I don't usually leave reviews unless they are 9 or 10 or absolutely horrible but this place was a mixed bag, so I made my first exception.
Keep in mind this is more like a house rental than a hotel. There is no food on site (or nearby) and the place has a feeling like someone who invested a lot of money in a private home but then decided s/he needed some income, and hasn't been there for a while. There was mold all over the mirror in the bathroom and on the window shades in our room. My mother-in-laws room was worst - it had a moldy, musty smell, probably from not being used or having the AC on enough. The beds are very firm, which was fine for me but not for everyone. Some weird inconsistencies - the colorful large towels provided in the bathroom are beautiful and unique, possibly made by hand, but there are no small towels or bath mats, so we had to put these beautiful towels on the floor! The outdoor shower hadn't been cleaned in a long time and was impossible to use for safety reasons, too slippery. The pool has no umbrellas or towels left out (though you can take towels from your room). There was no blanket, only a sheet, so I had to use a towel (my husband likes to sleep with the room cold). The breakfast was really poor quality - my husband's omelette was overcooked and my boiled eggs were watery, not cooked for 6 minutes as requested. Overall poor quality and in quantity, like a step down from a Days Inn breakfast from my childhood.
