How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewProperty was clean and staff were very accommodating and helpful. We were able to send items to be laundered and rent bikes.
Property is quite a distance from the main strip on the island. Room could do with a fridge to keep water clean.

Verified reviewThe accommodation is superb. The staff is also super friendly. Ziland and Harry care about your comfort. They really do everything they can to provide you with anything you need. They make you feel like family. They’re people with big hearts. I recommend them 100%. You end up feeling at home.
Sometimes the pool is green and you don’t feel like swimming, but they clean it up quickly and it looks good.

Inconsiderable guest and outside neighbours between 9pm and 3am. Then you have the cockerals at 4am, the mosque at 5am, the local children at 6am and mosquitoes all night !!! 🦟 The front door would not lock and when the owner fidled around and locked it - a few moves - open and insecure ! The basin water tap dribbled like an old man ! 🤣 Bring your jif, mop, bucket and vacuum - don't look under the bed ! If your up for a night, like you have never had before book Bale Datu. My new saying " Embrace the Experience " 🤣

Verified reviewGreat location (easy to walk to both sides of the island from), clean and comfortable. Pool is a good temp and catches the sun most of the day. You can also do your laundry through the property which was helpful.

SCAM. The owner is a scammer. We rented 2 bikes with the owner for 24 hours and returned them back after dinner. For context, we had already trusted him with the snorkeling tour and could have never imagined he would try to scam us. When we returned them, we were no longer legally responsable because the rental contract was already over. Apart from the fact that we did returned them locked. In the morning he pretended that one bike was gone, and he is the only one who knew the combination of the lock. The 2 bikes were locked with one locker so it doesn’t make sense that they only took one bike. He lied to us, we knew that but we were running out of time as we needed to catch the ferry back to Bali (which he knew - he knew we did not have the time to sort the situation out). He claimed us 2,5 M rph, in the end we only paid the cash we had left which was 5,7 K, and he accepted that without hesitation, which confirmed it was a scam as otherwise he wouldn’t have let us leave without paying. It is really unfair, he took advantage of the trust we pur in him, he had been nice with us since the beginning… - we felt betrayed and used. Besides, he was annoying me and my friend all the time saying to us “beautiful girls”, we did not feel safe at all. This experience ruined our trip to Gili, for that, we recommend you choose another hotel, spend a little more but make sure they are trust worthy. Not professional at all, lying to the clients that also booked the snorkeling trip with them. WE CLAIM OUR MONEY BACK.

Verified reviewPros - smart tv in the room, spacious room and bathroom, safe in the room, comfy bed and bedding - can rent bikes from the accommodation - really modern and new - decent location with nice restaurants etc nearby Cons - the staff could work on professionalism…the owner constantly burped during conversations :/ and it sometimes felt like you couldn’t use the communal spaces as he / his friends were there - we had a lot of mosquitos in our room and bathroom, no idea how they managed to get in as we always kept the door shut - shower was only ever lukewarm rather than hot

Access to the property. The surrounding roads were flooded during rainy season, nothing the host can do but just bring footwear that is okay to get wet.

Streets leading to the location are muddy and dark, not the best to walk in the night. Hot water in the bathroom wasn't really hot, just warm. Room is too dark, could have bigger windows.

Verified reviewSecond time I’m staying here, this time almost a month. Nothing compares to this place, it is perfect. The staff is like a family to me, they help you with everything you can think of. Food, bicycle rental, drinks, snorkeling, trips to Lombok, driver, absolutely everything! The place is kept super clean and they clean your room whenever you want. A/c is very efficient, wifi is fast for working/netflix etc, showerhead is big and you also get warm water. Nice swimming pool and common area with big tv and kitchen. You need to try this place and I promise you will fall in love! ❤️

Bed sheets had stains on them as soon as we got there. No room cleaning (but was stated on the booking so we knew) Toilet was loose so every time you sat on the toilet in moved Shower wasn’t hot Was given a laminated sheet with a list of items you can buy which when I asked for water they said they don’t do it? Pool wasn’t open due to being under maintenance however there seemed to be nothing being done to it Could here people outside and in other rooms

Verified reviewLocation was perfect for both sides of the island. Staff was friendly and helpful, we had absolutely no issues! Bikes available to rent and staff helped us book a really enjoyable snorkelling trip. Room was spacious and bathroom was good. Pool area was lovely.
If I had to say something, cleanliness could be improved but was still satisfactory :)

The room could be cleaned better, under the bed was very dirty. The pool should be for visitors only, not staff. Loud music played by staff one night. If I was travelling alone I would not have been comfortable walking to the accommodation at night. Dark, small laneways.

Pool has a lot of chlorine in it for hygiene purposes, so be careful what you wear to use it (no jewellery whatsoever!)
