Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe chickens did wake us up early each morning- as the local village is beside the hotel.
You couldn’t pick a more perfect place to stay – it truly is paradise. From the moment you arrive and are welcomed by the warm, friendly team, you instantly feel your holiday has begun. The food is outstanding – every dish bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. This was our second time on Gili Asahan, and we’ll definitely be back again.

RomaniaIt’s a problem all over Indonesia but more effort could be done in working with the locals and education to keep the island clean. While the stretch of sand in front of hotel is generally clean a few meters to the left where the local village is, it’s full of garbage.
Nice resort on a less busy island.

We loved our stay at the Amahelia Resort. As soon as they picked us up in their boat for the ten minute journey over to Gili Asahan, we knew we'd enjoy our time there. We loved our little villa, it was like a little hobbit house! The bed was comfy and there was a well appointed bathroom. There was a fridge with mini bar & it was easy to keep fresh water topped up from the main bar in the restaurant. There is no kettle so if you are like us and need a cup of tea in the morning if you just pop over to the bar they will bring you tea in china cups! The pool area is lovely. We also loved being able to take kayaks out to go paddling around the island. They arranged a great 3 hour private snorkelling trip & have snorkel gear that you can borrow. The restaurant area on the beach was just lovely & the food was excellent. Service was very good & a special shout out to Andy & Amir who were so friendly. We loved our time on Gili Asahan and thoroughly recommend Amahelia as a really lovely place to stay.

ItalyThe swimming pool looked not very clean but we had a private one that was immaculate so it wasn’t a problem.

AustraliaFrom our room you could hear the resort's generator. It wasn't a problem for me but my husband is sensitive to the things. We were able to swap our room with a family member so the problem was easily solved. There was a slight musky smell to our room but it really wasn't an issue. Other than that having some extra seating options around our private pool would have been good.
The island and resort was beautiful (and clean). We had come from travelling around Lombok which many places and beaches were dirty. Gili Asahan and the surrounding sea was very clean. They told me they had a program in place where they go right around the island once a week and pick up rubbish along the beaches. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem. The food and cocktails were very good.

A very good location on Gili Asahan with a nice beach frontage. Rooms were a good size. Amahelia is not a luxury hotel but a really nice place on a quiet tranquil and smallish island. Breakfast was good and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meals.

Amahelia is a place where as soon as you arrive, you put your shoes in your suitcase and leave them there until departure :) This place is absolutely to be visited if you wish to spend a few days by the sea, relaxing with nice people and good food. The property is managed by a team of friendly, helpful, and very polite young people who will do everything to make you feel good. The establishment is clean and comfortable, with minimalist rooms but with everything you need, excellent food, and the fact that it is just a few steps from two other lodges gives you the option to vary your restaurant choice in the evening or during the day if you wish. Near the property, there is a small fishing village, and a tour of the island involves a leisurely walk of about 2 hours. If I could, I would return tomorrow.

SwitzerlandThe Beach Bungalow with seaview was in the Garden behind the Pool and surrounded by a high bamboo fence which made the Terrasse very private but blocked the sea view. Snorkelling is poor. Most corals are destroyed. Have not done a boat tour, so Don’t know if there are better places Furtner out. Lots of local boats in front of beach. Hotel Beach is cleaned every morning, but a lot of plastic everywhere else on the island.
Nice Bungalow, very comfortable bed, enough comfortable deckchairs by Pool and on Beach, very friendly and helpful staff, relaxed and quiet. Good quality snorkelling gear as well as Canoes and SUP available at no additional cost.

New ZealandThe wifi was only available at the cafe as they were upgrading to starlink. The roosters are very vocal! The watersports gear could use an upgrade
Beautiful and peaceful location right on the beach. Lovely staff and very friendly. The food was delicious. Easy access to snorkeling and kayaks. Anything could be arranged including boat transport to and from the island. It's the only resort on the island with a pool. We had a private pool in our two bedroom villa which was amazing. There are no cars or scooters on the island so no pollution or motor noises. No hawkers or any shops/ATM Highly recommended for a relaxing stressfree holiday.

Bed was so comfortable, it was like sleeping on the cloud. The staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious and served beautifully. They had a massage service right on the beach which was super relaxing. Also they provided equipment for water activities like free kayaks, paddle boards and snorkelling kit.

AustraliaThe hotel itself and the beach in front of the hotel (and all the hotels on Asahan) are spotless. But the island itself (and satellite islands) needs some help with the litter issues that seem to plague the Gili islands. The trash washing up from Bali/Lombok is not so nice. But as I said the hotel itself is absolutely immaculate and the trash is not their fault.
This resort is wonderful. The location is perfect- right on the beach and also walking/kayaking distance to two snorkeling spots. The rooms are clean and cool and the pool is just beautiful with a lovely view. We stayed in the villa with private pool and it was absolutely worth it. The private pool stays cooler than the hotel pool (but still not cold) so by the end of the day when the hotel pool has warmed up you can still cool down in your private pool. Staff go above and beyond to look after you. Service is wonderful. Our transfers to and from Hili Gede were also perfect. Foods is good but also lots of restaurants around the hotel to try so you don’t get bored. The breakfast is very good! Especially the chia pudding and the eggs Benedict. Fantastic cocktails. The Asahan Breeze was a surprising favorite. Don’t hesitate to book Amahelia.

GermanyThis isn’t the hotels fault but I think it has to be mentioned. The ocean, and the beaches which aren’t in front of a hotel on the island is full of garbage, mostly plastic. You see trash floating by all the time. The whole island should be cleaned up.

AustraliaNothing. Only we couldn't stay longer.
The communication with Hendra from the front office was excellent. He also met us at the speed boat on arrival out the front of the resort. The staff could not be more helpful. The air-conditioned thatched roof villa was lovely and clean and had a massive bathroom. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The wet edge pool is next to the restaurant and looks out over the water. It is long enough to do laps or just chill out. The meals were delicious and we enjoyed the breakfast included in our rate. The fresh fruit and granola Naga bowl was so good. Also Eggs Benedict or Asian dish options. Free use of stand up paddle boards and kayaks caught our adventurous spirit. Great snorkeling within 50m from the resort entering straight if the beach. We arranged a private local boat (jukung) and captain (Hassan) to take us snorkeling to 3 spots. Gili Rengit (fish and coral), Gili Layar (turtles, fish and coral and the largest clown fish community) which was our favourite and Gili Gede (blue coral). Gili Asahan is a jewel still young from tourism. We felt privileged to experience its beautiful charm.

United StatesThe bidet in our bungalow leaked so couldn't be used, and Amahelia didn't have a luggage rack we could use. But these were quite minor and didn't detract much from our stay!
Gili Asahan is a true gem — quiet, secluded, and relaxed, but with enough tourist infrastructure (about 5 resorts) to be extremely comfortable and well taken care of, while having some choice of where to stay/eat. We went as honeymooners and found the place very romantic, although there were also a good number of families. Amahelia specifically stands out, with excellent service, a beautiful pool, gorgeous private bungalows, and a great on-site restaurant. Breakfast is included and very tasty, with good tea/coffee, fresh fruit juice, and a mix of Western and Indonesian options. The best lunch/dinner options tend to be pan-Asian (Filipino kinilaw, Sri Lankan fish curry, Javanese nasi bakar, Cantonese salt and pepper fish) and quite good. On-site spa is a huge plus. Sure, prices are a bit higher than on the mainland (it is a tiny island after all), but way cheaper than the US/Europe/Australia, allowing you to live well. And the snorkeling is some of the best we've seen in the whole world (cf. Cozumel, Thailand), right off the island!
