I don't think it is easy to describe the beauty of Motovun and of Casa Pino Pina. We rented the entire villa with friends (group of 6). The house is an old/traditional house with many levels. It is refurbished and decorated with very good taste and it combines modern and traditional with elegance. It is very well equipped and it has many separate spaces so you can either stay with the group or isolate with your partner. The owners were in contact with us for everything we needed (all we needed was information, the house had everything). We stayed there for three nights on our roadtrip from Dubrovnik to Zagreb and our stay was amazing.

There is nothing I didn't like. However, this location may not be suitable for people with mobility limitations, as it is a steep climb from the parking area to the apartment, as well as a very steep climb into the town of Motovun.

This apartment is probably THE cleanest Booking.com (or competitor AirXnX) that I have ever rented. It was spotless and also very tastefully decorated with a combination of simple and primitive pieces. The owner Olja was easy to reach and very responsive. Plus, they had thought of every little detail in the home: laundry detergent and drying rack with the washer; fully stocked kitchen; coffee, tea and milk; several different size and style of coffee makers; a phone charger that worked on Croatian electric currency; extra throw blankets, and more. To top it off, the views out the windows of the surrounding hillsides were just beautiful, and the quaint cobblestone streets it sits on added to the charm of the location. We were also a close (albeit very uphill) walk to mutliple good restaurants and bars. (We recommend Montana Gallery and Konoba Mondo.) I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Located on the side of a mountain, accessing the home required effort. Specifically, carrying bags up and down was a challenge. The walk without bags was not bad.

Every window of this home had an amazing view starting with the valley below and ending with the historic streets and buildings above. The home was well furnished (kitchen utensils, coffee, laundry detergent, etc.), well decorated, and both the upper level (bathroom and two bedrooms) and main level (kitchen and sitting areas) were spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed walking to the top of the mountain (not an overly easy stroll) for even better views and restaurants. We used our stay in Motovun as a home base for visiting other small towns in the area and this home worked wonderfully. The host was quick to communicate and helpful.

The lighting over the table in the living room was a bit dim for our card-playing in the evening. The hike up to the house is not for the faint of heart! You definitely get a workout from the car to the house so be prepared. Our 20-something kids wore sandals and Birkinstocks but I needed my sneakers to navigate the pathways. Our son opted for the sofa in the living room after a night on the sleeper sofa in the bottom level.

Our family of 6 adored Casa Pino Pina the minute we arrived. The Instructions to get to the house were perfect so be sure to mind the written directions vs. Google. The house was tucked away in the middle of other residences midway up the steep hill to the top of Motovun and we were along the path up, so it was fun to greet passersby, it was a short distance for us to walk to the top as well. The views! were astonishing. Seeing the old tile roofs out the window on one side, the fog lying in the valley every morning in the distance, and the impossible-to-imagine 45 degree pathways out the opposite side - were simply breathtaking. The house itself was beautiful with the old charm of heavy timber and stone met with beautiful contemporary and comfortable furnishings and decor. The painted wood floor and wainscot in the bathroom upstairs was such a simple but fresh idea. The kitchen lent itself well to cooking - We brought provisions from the market home for a full breakfast including fried potatoes and eggs and had all the dishes and cookware needed to prepare wonderful meals. Hot water was instant and appreciated. Full-size frig was handy too. We had (2) couples and (2) singles sharing the entire holiday home and we all had enough privacy and space. The outdoor umbrella table even offered enough seating for the 6 of us.

Not really a “dislike”, just wish I were younger. There is a reality that it is a steep hilltown and it’s quite a challenge for the aged or infirm to get up the paths over the cobbles. Our host very kindly helped get the luggage up the hill.
