How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It is a steep walk to get to and from the main square which was a killer in the middle of summer! Also there was no aircon in the bedrooms which meant they were extremely warm at night

Verified reviewThe apartment is run by a family and they were the most friendly and welcoming hosts I’ve ever experienced. Made you feel like you were family guests over for a visit. Tino was there to help with our luggage and his daughter explained everything we needed to know to us. The apartment had great views and in a good location, about 15-20 min walk into the centre of town and swimming locations. Beware it’s all downhill to get there, so not so easy on the way back.
We only have some minor, minor negatives, but nothing to really complain about. The hand held shower head in one of the bathrooms was fixed too low to stand under, my friends didn’t like that the double/queen bed had 2 sets of single sheets rather than one sheet and we kept tripping over the tiny step between the living area and the kitchen.

He kindly picked us up from the port, which was a great relief and a warm welcome to the area. The photos didn't match the description, there was no garden/bbq and the host was quite grumpy/passive aggressive
Dear, First of all, the apartment you booked and received corresponds to the pictures posted. In the future, before you come to the accommodation and decide to write negatively, better look at the pictures of the exact accommodation and not the entire house, which has three different apartments. The garden that you mention that the apartment does not have, thanks to your inappropriate and extremely arrogant behavior, was full of beer cans and other alcoholic bottles. During your stay, the only one who was rude and aggressive was you and your company, non-stop drunk, arrogant and rude towards other guests who stayed in the same house and had to put up with your rudeness. We were glad to host you, but we look forward to the fact that you will no longer be our guests.

Verified reviewAmazing views from terraces, 15 min very nice walk from the port. Hosts are a wonderful family very kind and helpful. Even if they leave in the house, they are very discreet. Small supermarket and nice italian restaurant 3 mins walk.

Hvar is a small coastal town and much of the accommodation is some distance from the main town. It was about a 20 min walk into town...otherwise everything was awesome.

Verified reviewIt was lovely, well furnished but a quiet property. The owners were helpful and live beneath you. Beautiful view though, truly you can’t beat it!
It was quite far from the strip, which I should’ve researched a bit more! It’s 15-20 min walk so be mindful of this if you want to be where the action is. Taxis are expensive here 20 euro flat haha. But otherwise the property was great! Good for a family stay :)

Verified reviewClean place with beautiful sea views from balcony. Nice beaches and beach clubs nearby, also a grocery store two minute walk away. The town centre is also walking distance. Host greeted us as we arrived and was very friendly and explained everything thoroughly and they were always available for assistance. Kitchen was well equipped.
The place is located on top of hill, if you have limited mobility it might be an issue but for us it was fine. We took a taxi to get there from the port with our luggage, but it was easy enough to walk down the hill with our bags. For us everything was perfect!
