How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe hostel is very well located: the area is quiet and safe, close to the airport bus station, a few minutes' walk from supermarkets, and a 10-minute ride to the city center and the port. The hostel is small, with just four rooms, and is family-run, so it feels very quiet. Although you can't cook, the included breakfast is good, and I appreciated the fact that there's always fruit, snacks, and drinks available for guests.
As for improvements, the first thing I noticed upon arrival was the smell in the men's bathroom. I don't know if the exhaust fans aren't working properly, but the windowless bathroom often has an unpleasant odor. Overall, I think the hostel's cleanliness could be improved. Lastly, due to the fact that it's a small, family-run hostel, if you're looking for a party hostel or a hostel with lots of socializing and group activities, I don't think it's the right choice. However, if you're looking for a hostel with a very quiet atmosphere, it's definitely the right choice.
Thank you for your review and for taking the time to share your impressions. Regarding the “unpleasant smell” in the men’s bathroom – that is not any kind of foul odor, but rather disinfectant used during cleaning. If someone walks in immediately after cleaning or even like you during cleaning....:) the scent can be stronger, but once it dries it disappears. In fact, it’s a guarantee that the bathroom has been cleaned, not the opposite. 🙂 But people are not patient when we say dont go inside while is cleaning time....noone cares ;) As for staying in the hostel after check-out – technically, once the booking ends, guests are no longer hostel guests. At our place, everyone has the right to leave their luggage for free (which many other hostels charge for). Some people do stay and wait for their flights in the common area, which we understand, but of course, if 20 people are sitting there all day, it’s impossible to clean everything perfectly. There is a cleaning schedule, and it has to be respected. When it comes to atmosphere and socializing – it always depends on the guests themselves. When a sociable group arrives, there’s plenty of interaction and outings. When a quieter group comes, then the vibe is calm. We are not here to pull guests by the sleeve – I am a mom to my son, not to all of you. So im not the one to blame when people are not socializing....🙂 Ventilation in the hostel works properly, and cleanliness is maintained daily. This is also reflected in our guest ratings – 9.2 for cleanliness – which shows that the majority of guests would not agree with your statement. If some individuals don’t know how to leave a toilet clean behind them, that is unfortunately not something any hostel can 100% control, unless we were to hire a personal cleaner for each guest. We wish you the best of luck in your future travels, and hope you find a place that fully matches your personal standards. Kind regards

Thank You for nice words regrding us and location! To clarify regarding breakfast; from wide selection including different pastries, all kinds, omelettes and eggs, cold cuts, salads, fruits and variety of cereals even cakes....with those options, Im curious what exactly you expect for breakfast in hostel...? ;) For showers, as explained on check in to everyone, its automatic set on temperature and pressure so you should just push the button,, if its changed manually, it will cause temperature issues, like too hot or too cold ;) Its not technical problem, its just how sistem works. And noone listens.

Verified reviewBefore booking, I saw that most of the reviews were very good. About the bad ones, I thought: these were written by guests that misbehaved, were admonished and now are trying to get back at the hostel. I was wrong. I’ll do a detailed review so you can dodge a big bullet and not fall for it like I fell. (see photo-8 to read my “theory” about the big amount of positive reviews as opposed to the bad ones). I’m a 30yo guy who stayed 7 days at the hostel, after a non-refundable reservation. Here, I’ve had the worst experience out of all +/- 100 hostels I’ve stayed in all my life. 1. The hostel is run by Anja and her mother, Diana. The first calls the shots. No other workers or volunteers. They live nearby and stay all day at the hostel. The hostel has a nice structure, is very clean and tidy (see photo-1). The owners are two control freaks. They have cameras everywhere and every step is being monitored. Since I was working remotely and I like tidy spaces, I can’t say this was a bad point for me. But if you’re used to party hostels or others where you can do whatever you want, this is not the place for you. 2. There’s a small kitchen with a fridge, where you can put your food and beverages. You can use the utensils, at any time. However, you’re NOT ALLOWED to COOK. You can’t even boil water for a coffee or a mate. (Photo-2) 3. A breakfast is offered. Nonetheless, it’s far away from a “continental breakfast” as advertised. There are NO FRUITS, not even a mini banana. NO (good) COFFEE, just that soluble one. They have a professional coffee machine, but it’s broken. On my day 2, the daughter said to me that they won’t fix the machine because “YOU, GUESTS, DON’T DESERVE IT”. (Photo-3) 4. They serve some scrambled eggs in a small tray. 10 eggs, at a guess. On my day-4, at 9am this tray was empty. I politely asked the mother if there were more eggs and she, unexpectedly and for nothing, tried to humiliate me in front of all the guests. (Read more on Photo-4)
Some (not all) of the outrageous things that I saw in the hostel: 1. I found the hostel from its back door. The mother opened the door, grudgingly. After I said some Croatian expression. She asked if I spoke Croatian. I said no, but I’d learn. She replied that I wouldn’t be capable, because I’m dumb, since I couldn’t find the front door. This was my “welcome”. I laughed it off and thought she was trying to be sarcastic. I was wrong again. 2. On the next days I saw the mother being grumpy with a lot of guests. At any requests addressed to her, she rolled her eyes and behaved rudely. On day-3, I saw a girl terrified in the living room, almost crying. I introduced myself to her and asked if everything was ok. She was from Belgium. She said the old woman shouted at her, at the reception, during check-in, just because she arrived at a different time. Another girl from France was also lashed out by the mother because she was wearing shoes at the kitchen. 3. A local guy who stayed at the hostel said to me that, when he was doing check-in and the mother noticed he was local, she said: “THANKS, GOD. I HATE THESE FOREIGNERS. THEY DON’T BEHAVE WELL”. 4. After the egg-situation reported in photo-4, I went to the beach. When I came back, ~9pm, the daughter cornered me in the living room, yelling at me like crazy, in front of all the guests, demanding an explanation why I argued with her mother. Was very demeaning. (Read about this and more on photos 5+6). Next day, I reached out to the daughter, we had a long talk and “made amends” (photo-7) From some point, for the sake of my safety, I started audio-recording every time I was in the common area. So I can prove, if needed, what I’m saying here and other obnoxious things said to me by them. Besides, I have the names and contacts of almost all victims and witnesses of the facts here described. Now they will reply, writing whatever they want, and I won’t have a rebuttal. Buyer beware!
Raul, I honestly couldn’t wait for your review. 😊 This is not sarcasm, but sincerity. You are the perfect example of a guest whose unique character shows the side of tourism that is not easy and helps others to see and understand what we sometimes have to deal with. First – the cameras. They are not here because we are “freaks,” but for the safety of all guests, including yours. And let’s be clear , cameras are not monitored, only when something actually happens. Like for example, I have you harrasing us not the other way around. ;) And I dont have time for that, like You kindly said its just the two of us. In your case, you insisted on checking the footage, and yes, there was something to see: my mother standing still, and you approaching her so close and shouting. Second – cooking is not allowed, and it is clearly stated on Booking.com that the kitchen is not for sharing. So maybe you should read before making a reservation. ;) All guests make their own tea and coffee, and that has never been an issue for them of for me. Instant coffee and tea are always available for breakfast. The professional coffee machine is not repaired because it is expensive, and some guests misuse it so much that it constantly breaks. While you demanded that I take it for repair just because you wanted coffee, I calmly told you that caffe bars exist for that. I never said guests “don’t deserve coffee” – I said the machine was ruined by negligence. Third – breakfast. If you look at all the other reviews, it’s clear that it is varied and excellent – always with fruits, salads, and different choices. So you are right....its far from continental breakfast( which is by definition bread, spread and coffee or tea and croassans ;) just for you to know, without EGGS) By definition my breakfast is buffet and can be compared with 4* hotels, reviewed by many guests, specially the ones who understand what continental breakfast is, and what is buffet ;)And You demanded 20 eggs just for yourself, claiming you “need them for your muscles.” That day there were 40 eggs in total, but this is a buffet, and obviously 120 eggs are not prepared for one person. When told that everything is served at the buffet, you shouted at her, saying that we have to tell guests to stop eating.... which was confirmed by all the other guests present. Fourth – the back door. You were greeted with a joke, but you banged so hard on the door that you could have broken it. That is not a “rude welcome,” but a warning that You can break something. And noone told you, you are stupid, thats 100percent sure. Fifth – “the girl in shoes.” Nobody complained because she was walking in shoes, that stement is ridiclous and also showing Your own language barrier. But because she was washing her sneakers in the kitchen sink , the same sink where guests and YOU wash their fruit and vegetables. I believe anyone would agree that this is not the right place for washing shoes. ;) There is bathroom for it....just saying ;) That other girl, came in wrong time, its funny because this is only hostel in a city with check in from 13:30 until midnight. i even wait guests until 2am when they send message even if I dont have to. ;) So lie to someone else about it. ;) Sixth – the comment that “someone hates foreigners” – this is simply not true. Given your level of English, it’s very likely you heard what you wanted to hear. ;) That I hate them definetly wouldnt work with them, simple. ;) So there is no logic whatsoever. And finally, to clarify: You were the one demanding that I go to guests and tell them to stop eating – which is absurd and impolite. That is what I reacted to, and nothing more. And I did reacted in front of other guests on pourpose, repeadetly asking You: You really think I should say to people how much they should eat, and you repeadetly answered : yes, thats what good manager do. You didnt even realized what I was doing, and I did that so everybody can hear what you were demanding from me, while being agressive. ;) So, what you described as “the worst experience” was in fact your insistence on unrealistic demands and your lack of respect for the rules and for other guests. That is a big difference. The confirmation of my so-called “rude behavior” can be found in 600+ excellent reviews and in the guests who have been returning for years. Unlike you, they clearly recognized reality. As for your “victims’ contacts” – you mean the person washing sneakers in the kitchen sink? Feel free to ask if she does that at home, and then puts food in the same sink. ;) And about the footage… you can watch it and listen to it as much as you like – maybe one day you will finally reach the right conclusion. ;) We make amends, in a way that I tried to explain to You Your behaviour and to put Yourself in a position where someone comes to You and say: HeyYou ate enough you cant eat anymore. But You still didnt care. Fascinanting. And just for you to know, lying is the deliberate act of presenting false informations in order to manipulate to gain some personal benefit. At its core, lying is concious choice to accept that Your words may harm others. Think about it. I wish you all the best and sincerely hope you find a hostel where staff will stand over everyone’s heads telling them how much they are allowed to eat and to give You whole breakfast for 40people. Only then will your demands finally seem “normal.” Let me know when You find that place ;) Kisses from a freak ;)

Verified reviewThe bed and pillow were so comfortable. Upon arrival, I was so tired and immediately went to bed thanks to the best pillow I’ve slept on in a hostel. Staff were accommodating to my late arrival since I informed them beforehand. The closet was big enough to accommodate and you get a key for it too. It’s also very close to everything you want to access in Split. I felt very safe.
The bathrooms are sometimes a little dirty (stray hairs, bathroom smell) because of the guests, but overall, it’s pretty clean for a hostel and probably the cleanest hostel I’ve been in. The staff do a really good job!

Unfortunately, there was a group of other guests who were disrespectful of the bathroom and space. Out of the hostels control though.

Verified reviewThe ladies (mother and daughter) who ran the accommodation were great in communicating with me before and during the trip. We used WhatsApp to link up, and as the Uber driver left me in an area not exactly in the right location, they guided me via the camera mode in the application. They made the visit impeccable.

Thank you very much for your kind words and wonderful review – we are glad you enjoyed our breakfast, the cleanliness and the central location of our hostel, it really means a lot to me! Regarding the air conditioning, we understand your point. However, many of our guests from different parts of the world actually mention that even 26°C feels too cold for them. Since everyone’s comfort level is different, we try to keep the temperature at a balance that works for the majority of our international guests.
