Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ColombiaIt would be nice to make the door bell work and to have a more visible sign. Other than tat, eveeything was good to me during my stay.
The hotel is walking distance from all the sightseeing points of interest in Antigua. The staff was helpful.I also used the laundry service that had a very good price from my stand point.

AustriaThere was a bit of a sweet-sour smell in the bathroom, maybe from a sink. One night it rained really a lot. In the general area there was a door from a hallway to a terrace not closed. Water did flood the hallway and got into our room, flooding the complete floor. This was quite unpleasant.
This is a very nice place a little off the center of Antigua, but you can easily walk there. The pictures of the room actually understate a bit how cozy they are.

FranceThey use way to much scents for the room and softener for the laundry. The air in the room was dense and heavy from all the chemicals and you could pretty much taste it. The room did not have any big windows I could open at night, so it did not get much better. They should clearly dial down on all the chemicals.
Nice place 15 min away from the city center. The overall hotel is great, with a terrace and some common areas Staff was nice and warm The shared bathroom was clean and the water warm

Hong KongThe bed was crawling with ants and other insects (thankfully, no bed bugs). The towels were covered in lint and hair, and there were no windows in the room. On top of that, no one spoke English, which could be challenging for non-Spanish-speaking travelers. They also have a 5% credit card fee, and also uses a lower USD exchange rate... If this were Europe or North America, I would have rated it 1 star. However, considering my experiences across five Latin American countries, this might be acceptable for local tourists. I'm giving it a 7 because I want to support local businesses. That said, if you're particular about room quality, comfort, or communication, you might want to think twice before booking.

BrazilThe hotel sign in on the window, almost covered by plants and there's no number fixed on the facade. It took 20min for the private shuttle to find it.
The hotel was simple but comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and managed to book our shuttle to Lanquin with a good partner of theirs. Hot shower and quite neighbourhood.

United Kingdomrooms aren't very good at noise isolation so can hear a lot of what happens in the hotel, WiFi connection wasn't great, the closet in our room had a strong varnish smell - wouldn't advise to put your clothes in there as it can absorb that smell

GermanyThe room is a little bit dark because of the wooden ceiling but it did not really bother us.
Great location, 5 minute walk to the center of Antigua in a quiet area that felt safe. Very friendly hosts. Our room on the ground floor was comfortable, the shower was also nice and there is a lovely rooftop terrace with a stunning view over Antigua and the surrounding volcanos

United StatesNo kitchen or fridge access. They provide filtered water in the lobby or bottled water for sale instead. An access to an electric kettle for an evening cup of tea would have been nice. They asked not to bring food inside the rooms - understandable when I saw some ants on my first day already (they were gone the rest of my stay). Spotty wifi in my room - I keep getting disconnected or just have poor signal. Need at least a fan for better air circulation - would have preferred to keep windows open, but it faces a small street, and I was concerned with privacy since I was on the street level. The hotel/casa is on a busy one-way road from 6am to 7pm, lots of noise and fumes. And the noise! I'm not sure if it's just the style/structure of the house in general, but it has poor soundproofing, so everything from normal conversations to cars on the road can be heard in my room. One morning, I woke up from the loud noise from a group checking out early (5am), and between the doorbell buzzing for their pickup to the guests loud chatter and luggage banging down the stairs, I was close to snapping and was ready to go out and shush them myself (covered my ears with the pillows instead until they finally left). I also tried taking a nap a couple of afternoons, but there were loud noises from children playing in the hotel/casa as well (maybe because it was a weekend?) I didn't order their breakfast (tried once but was told by a male staff that the staff in charge of the breakfast was sick and not coming in that day) ... subsequently, I was either up too early or up late in the mornings that I just chose to go to one of the many wonderful cafes in town instead.
The female staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered daily housekeeping and affordable laundry service (75Q for a load!) Easily booked my airport transfer with the staff and was picked up on time. Large and spacious room and good shower pressure. The hotel/casa is at the north end of town, about 10-15min (4-5 blocks) walk from the center of town.

Costa RicaHotel Staff was super friendly and nice. They coordinated our transport from the Airport, which made us feel secure and taken care of; and also waited for us when our journey from the airport took longer than anticipated due to heavy traffic. Our room was simple and clean. Bathroom was outside of the room, but was private just for us. The hotel is not located that close to the center. We didn't mind walking up and down, and actually enjoyed it. Just make sure you consider this when booking.

United StatesIt is located on the very north edge of the city center so some locations will be a 20-25 minute walk a bit on the longer side, but as long as you are aware of that, it is a great pick.
Casa Sofia is a wonderful space and a great value! Our room was clean and comfortable and it was great having an en suite bathroom (especially for the rate). The staff is friendly and helpful.
