Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOnly the shower, as mentioned earlier.
Nice, basic apartment on first floor, with small balcony, in a pleasant location. Room adequate for our one night stay. Rain shower was more of a drizzle, but was ok. Free parking available throughout site. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Nice pool with sun loungers. Breakfast was very good with large selection of hot and cold food. The village is about a 10 minute walk from Matala, so is away from the main busy area.

SpainSwimming pool could do with a deep clean, and some of the gardens surrounding the property require upkeep - but these are minor issues.
Basic but clean hotel on the outskirts of Matala, a leisurely walk into the centre. Friendly team, adequate bedrooms, good breakfast. Drinks and snacks available all day. Overall, a nice, quiet place to stay and good value for money.

GreeceExcellent hotel. The apartment we stayed in was really nice with 2 large bedrooms and a kitchen and living area. We very much liked the yard with the outdoor table and the sunbeds. The hotel pool was also perfect and the breakfast was amazing.

Lovely bungalow room in a great location. The breakfast was a good addition and staff very welcoming. Matala was a short walk or drive and is the perfect mix of beach, history and relaxed night life. Loved the sunsets, restaurants and evening shopping in the lovely bazaar.

DenmarkMusquitos in the room were annoying and had to be faught before sleep.
Nice place and very polite employees. We rented a bungalow but do to bad weather flights were canceled and our accommodation was not available. We got to choose between 3 other rooms which was nice. And because of the situation we cannot say bad thing about this. Great breakfast buffet and only short walk to beach and Matala center.

DenmarkBit noisy little fridge, but manageable. Would be great to have an insect net, as mosquitoes come rushing into the room, but we had a plug-in anti-insects device we bought ourselves, so not such a big problem either.
Walking distance from the beach. Parking on the premises (even right at your room door). Super friendly staff, both at the reception and at the bar/ restaurant. Delicious breakfast with great variety. Very quiet, even if close to main road.

FranceAs already identified multiple time in previous evaluation, there are many stray cats in/ around the hotel, most clearly in need for food and care. The current situation of hungry, unsterilized cats leads to overpopulation and suffering. This is causing distress both to the animals and to guests. The hotel management should organise sterilization and sufficient feeding stations. They are quiet and nice cats; many are/could be domestic ones. It’s heartbreaking. Until hotel management act, if you’re still planning to stay here and if you care about these animals, help: feed them discretely/sign on-line survey to authorities/donate to Creta association/adopt and/or continue lobbying hotel management. Stray cats are everywhere in Creta; I did only see worst in Cyprus with mistreatment and dying cats. Greece is worse than Africa on this topic. Situation in/around Matala is extremely bad, up to cats poisoning by exasperated; I did not find any local stray cats feeding/sterilization charity!
We recently stayed in a charming bungalow accommodation and found it to be quiet, pleasant and comfortable. The bungalows are clean and nicely maintained, each featuring a nice private terrace set in a peaceful garden. The space is modest but functional. The layout is flat and easy to navigate, making it very suitable for guests with disabilities or young children. Parking is limited. Staff is friendly and efficacious. Breakfast is simple but enjoyable, with tables outside in the garden area. We did not tested dinner; the buffet was small. Matala beach is close, well equipped, not too crowed at beginning of the season (end May). Water shoes needed.

IsraelRoom airconditioning was not sufficient and the room was too hot! Could not leave the window open as the room faced the front and guests sat out till late at night, talking and laughing loudly. Towels were worn out and not good quality.
The location of the hotel is lovely, and easy to find. The restaurant was ok, nothing really special, a bit of a letdown.

GreeceParking was a chalenge, there is ample space but the ground isn't smooth, there is pavement plates here and there and it was difficult the first day that parking was full. Better next day. The room we were given was older, nothing like the pictures we saw when we booked. It is important when the booking is happening, to know how YOUR room will be, so that you can make an informed decision, because eventually our room didn't meet our expectations based on the pictures we have seen. Balcony was very old and didn't have anything to hand swimwear and towels (cleaning personel was very helpful and gave us a rope). Wifi was a joke. Absolutelly terrible, I didn't have a signal and I was forced to use my phone' s data the whole time.
Location was convenient, very close to Matala. The room' s bed was very comfortable, the water pressure in the shower was exceptional, I also liked shampoo (there weren't any other toiletries to shower).
