How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I'm genuinely surprised and disappointed by this 1-star review. The location of the property is clearly shown and described in detail. I never claim it's right on the beach, in fact, I make it very clear that it’s a quiet, tucked-away spot, which many guests appreciate exactly for that reason. So to give a 1 out of 10 score purely because it's “on a hill” feels extremely unfair and misleading to others. During your stay, I met one of you on the rooftop, we had a friendly chat. No issues were mentioned. No complaints. No requests. Like all guests, you had my direct contact, my WhatsApp, and I was available throughout your stay but you never reached out, not once. Then, unexpectedly, you left the property after just two nights without a word. Our housekeeping team noticed the room was empty and the key left in the door. Concerned, I messaged you immediately through Booking.com to ask if everything was alright and to offer help. Again, there was no reply. I always try to be open to constructive criticism, and I take guests remarks seriously and that's how I try to improve my place, but this review feels less like a fair reflection of your experience and more like something meant to hurt, without giving me any chance to understand or respond to your expectations during your stay. Verified reviewWe stayed at the Kurmulis Studios for two weeks and each single day was just great. George is an amazing host, cheerful, always helpful, open, and really „hands-on”. The whole property is perfectly maintained and clean. Our apartment was regularly cleaned, and towels changed. Kitchen is equipped with everything you may need, there is also a coffee machine. I really enjoyed the greenery – tree (bougainvillea?) at our doorstep, reaching up to the bedroom balcony and further up was so beautiful! There are enough comfortable sunbeds, umbrellas and towles you can use outside. The swimming pool is clean and welcoming – just mind as it is quite deep (right for swimming), but there is also a shallower part designated for the kids. Wifi was good, rooftop terrace is perfect and with such a view! Note for travellers: stairs in the apartment were really steep (but you can get used to that - however, may be problematic). George, to you and your kind staff: thank you for making our stay so great, we wish you just all the best!

Verified reviewWe had a studio with 2 floors, the decor inside was beautiful and the balcony was lovely. The pool area was lovely as was the sunset terrace. We loved our stay here. Stalos beach is just down the hill about a 12 minute walk, where you’ll find lots of beach clubs and restaurants. Chania is easy to get to using a bus at the end of the road, cost us €2 one way and took about 15/20 minutes, but that goes by quickly, they run every 20 minutes. You should definitely visit Chania a few times it’s stunning. We went end of September/start of October and everything was open and George the host provided us with a huge folder of suggestions such as bars, nice walks, booking taxis, vineyards near by etc which was a nice touch.
The stairs in the apartment are really steep and thin, so not suitable for the elderly. In the pictures the Garden appears a lot bigger and very private however it’s quite small and anyone down the road can see right into the garden as it’s not blocked off. The sun only hits the pool for half the day due to the shadowing of the buildings either side. But that was me being picky, we loved our stay overall and Kurmulis Studios is just beautiful.

Verified reviewLovely place to stay, and a great location to explore Chania and the surrounding areas, although it helped that we had a car. Although the beach was a short walk it was really nice and fairly quiet at the eastern end. Plenty of sun beds and bars to the west if that’s your thing.
There were no ramps down to the lower apartments so we had to lift our heavy suitcases down the stairs. Fortunately we were fairly fit and we’re able to do this, but it might prove more problematic for less able people but George is so helpful he could probably help you with this.

Verified reviewThe property is conveniently located in easy walking distance from restaurants and the beach, but also feels very peaceful and out the way. Our studio was really spacious and nicely decorated. The pool area is gorgeous and we never had an issue getting a sun lounger in the sun. The roof terrace at sunset is extra special.
