Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe staff were very helpful. They arranged our transfer to the port, ordered the ATVs (which are dropped off and picked up at Caveland), and pointed us in the right direction for whatever we needed. The pool was lovely!

If you get the chance - stay in Caveland. I'm a solo female traveller aged 50, this was so beautiful, friendly, lightly communal yet as private as you want it to be. Utterly safe. Sweet walk 25 mins up to Fira. Beautiful place, the photos are accurate but the sense when you arrive is even better. Delightful breakfasts, 3 adorable friendly dog residents too :) So many solo travellers. Highly recommend catching the bus to Pyrgos. Stay in Caveland, you will fall in love.

United KingdomIt’s not located in Fira, but is a 25 min walk which is easily doable. If you’re looking to be in the hustle and bustle this is a little further out. But it has so much charm and the village has everything you need!
Incredibly beautiful property. Such an authentic Greek building that is absolutely stunning! The staff and volunteers are so much fun and the 2 dogs on site are so cute. Caveland really makes you feel like you’re in another world.

GermanyThis does not have much to do with Caveland, but when it comes to its location, while Karterados is indeed not far from Fira (20-25 min walking based on various map applications), the walk from the hotel feels much longer and tiring. This is because certain parts are uphill, but most importantly the lack of shadow along the road (especially in hot months) and the lack of sidewalks (meaning cars run by you frequently) make the walk a bit of an uncomfortable experience. We tried it once but we stopped in the middled and came back. We opted on the option of taxes or bus instead (or instead we could have rent a car). So if you plan regular walks from Caveland to Fira to save on transportation costs (car rental, taxi), you can take this into consideration
I stayed at Caveland with family (my two kids and my mother). The room was much more spacious than I could have anticipated. I was expecting a much more smaller room, with several beds fit within the available space (based on past experience). Instead, what we got a essentially a small apartment, with two separate bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a small living room, all spacious, well equipped (e.g. air condition, wireless, towels etc) and clean. The balcony outside the room was nice for relaxing and also observe the kids in distance, playing in the swimming pool. The kids enjoyed the large swimming pool, it was ideal for the warmest part of the day when we did not want to move around in the island under the Sun. Breakfast was basic but more than sufficient. Everyone was very helpful and kind. The dogs were also a nice company. The village has few nice places to eat, or you can also order to get food delivered at Caveland. Overall, I hope that the fact that Caveland is listed as hostel in some booking websites is discouraging from some families to even consider it as an option - I instead cannot recommend it more.

United KingdomThere wasn't anything we didn't like. We enjoyed chatting with other travellers and enjoyed the pool and breakfast.
We stayed in the four person apartment, which was clean, comfortable, homely, and had the most fabulous views from a raised terrace. We enjoyed joining the Greek food tasting evening at the local taverna with other travellers and the Caveland team.

United KingdomThe pool turned our swimming things yellow... And if you are quite pregnant (as I am) the steep hill into the property is challenging.
This is a beautiful place to stay, the pool is fab, the rooms are so well decorated, the attention to detail is spot on and the breakfast was great.

AustraliaWould have liked some more group activities as a solo traveller, that’s why I booked a hostel. Breakfast wasn’t served til 8.30 (they were never on time) and you still had to wait til they served each person individually. If you have a 9am tour or transfer pick up you’ll be rushing to eat or just skip breakfast. Portions were small & same thing every day. Worth skipping.
I booked a private room which was a decent size, had a fridge and a basic electric stove. Good air conditioning. Would definitely suit 2 people.

United KingdomEverything was perfect, nothing to complain about.
Everything about this place was excellent. it has many open spaces and places to set outside and around the lobby, the rooms are big, fully equipped, has everything you need. AC works perfectly well, internet always available and fast. Breakfast was good enough, freshly prepared every morning with things you choose, you can take your tray and sit anywhere to have your breakfast. The swimming pool is very well kept, clean, tidy and not crowded. Plenty of parking available on site. the staff and owners are amazing and very helpful

United KingdomThe room gets cold so needed to layer up when sleeping and it was a long walk from the main road with some hilly road. Definitely need to get breakfast before leaving.
Had a wonderful stay. I loved the breakfast they served, very simple but helped my friend and I to get through the day. We were greeted with 2 lovely dogs on arrival. Easy check-in and we could leave our belonging before check in and after check out. Staff were really nice.

United StatesWhile the location made it a little difficult to get around without renting a car/motorcycle/atv, the staff was awesome about arranging pickups and giving directions. We’ll likely rent a car when we return to make things easier, but we will definitely be going back.
Such an awesome and unique place to stay. We booked a private “cave” for two and it was so comfortable, and surprisingly big! The hostel grounds are reason enough to stay with a lot of outdoor seating and a nice pool, but the staff were definitely the best part of everything. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and they even helped us book a last minute tour so we could see the whole island before we left. The rooms were also nice and cool on their own, no need for turning on the A/C! Highly recommend this unique experience.

United StatesThe hotel/hostel's location was the only challenge. It is situated around a 30 minute walk from Fira, and there is no option to take a bus (although there are buses Fira once you walk into town). Not only is it far from a town, it is still situated in a tourist-y area with lots of hotels around. All that said, I think I personally found Santorini a bit over-touristed, which is not the fault of the hotel!
The room was so cute. It worked well for the three of us, and we were very grateful for the free wine and olive dip left in the room for us. The staff was very helpful and gave us instructions for self check-in since we were arriving later in the evening. They were also very helpful in terms of navigating the island and finding activities. All of their directions were very helpful and correct. There are also two dogs on the property, both of which were so sweet and lovely! The free breakfast in the morning was one of the highlights as well. They customize the breakfast according to your preferences, it is all made fresh, and it's a great opportunity to meet other travelers and discuss plans and tips. I highly recommend this hotel, and don't skip breakfast!

United Statesthe one thing I didn’t like was a window in my room. It was a small window close to the ceiling. East facing with no shutters. every morning the dark room would have a beam of light come into it through the window at sunrise.
everything about this place was so nice. You get the feeling of being in Santorini without ever leaving. The breakfast was incredible. normally free breakfasts are 1 item or a self serve. this place they served you 4 things on a tray. The bus stop to Fira is not too far away so while you’re not right where the action is you have a cheap close way to get there.
