The drive down to Caldara Beach. The walk to the location, in the dark was a bit of a challenge.

Unique place to stay. Loved being directly on the water. Very quiet place to stay.

No tea towels for drying up dishes. No kettle for boiling water/tea and no toaster. We only got the WiFi on the last day as we were not told where to find it, then were given the wrong code via email. The television was near impossible to work out.

Amazing little private cave right on the water. It has been done up beautifully and is truly unique. Everything was very clean and beautifully presented.only a couple of small faults.

The one thing that we were probably most disappointed about was the fact that we had hoped to seek the sunset from the accommodation itself, since judging by the pictures, this is possible in some months. However, when you're there towards the end of September, and the sun no longer sets in the north west, your view is obscured by a cliff, so you never get to see the setting sun. And while we probably could have figured this out using an app specializing in calculating the sunset position on a map, it would be good if it was more clearly advertised from when to when you do get a sunset view, and then if you go at a time when you can't see it, it should be reflected in the price. We still got to see it in the end because we went to a nearby restaurant with a view, but this was, of course not ideal. The other thing to keep in mind is that while self-check-in is great, you have to carry any suitcases over to the accommodation from the parking yourself. While it is not too far, the problem is that you have to cross a sandy, and then a slightly rocky patch. With our 20 kg suitcases, my girlfriend, for example, couldn't do it. So this is only for young fit people with a bit of muscle strength. It might be possible to arrange with the owner for someone to be there and help, but we didn't consider that option to be fair. At the accommodation itself, we found that the kitchen has an oven. We did want to use it to heat up some pastry that we bought at a bakery to have that for breakfast, however, it didn't turn on, just like the cook top, and we couldn't figure out whether it is just broken or whether there is a separate switch for it. But with us staying there just shortly, we didn't discuss this further with the owner. He can probably help with that. Also to consider was that no matter whether we turned the tap to hot or cold water, the water temperature never changed.

This is an absolutely unique accommodation in the sense that you are staying at the caldera side of the island enjoying the spectacular views, but at the same time having the opportunity to go for a swim as the accommodation is located at sea level and close to the so-called Caldera Beach - which is one of only a handful of small beaches on the caldera side of the island, and the only one accessible by car. All the other expensive accommodations overlook the Caldera but since they are located on a cliff, you never get to swim in the sea unless you drive to a different part of the island. Me and my girlfriend strongly believe that going to an island does not make sense if you won't swim in the sea, and so even though we spent almost 3 weeks at a cheaper part of the island, we also wanted to try the caldera-side with the views for the last two nights before we leave, so we spend the extra money to stay here, and also swim in the caldera itself. For this, this accommodation is perfect, and possibly the only one on the island that fulfills these criteria. Also, it is a traditional cave house, but with all the modern amenities that one might require. This is a very romantic experience with a beautiful terrace directly by the sea. We also got to see the sunrise once which was beautiful. In high season when the sun is high, and sets further in the northwest, rather than at the end of September when we stayed there, you would probably also experience beautiful sunsets. Check-in and check-out were easy as it was more typical of an Airbnb-style check-in where you let yourself in using a key box. The owner is also quite responsive in case of questions. There is a small parking by the Remezzo restaurant near the accommodation and the Caldera Beach, if you come by car or are using a transfer.
