How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewMichaelas greeted us and was so friendly and engaging, and the rest of the team were so polite and nothing was too much trouble. We were lucky enough to get a room upgrade and the place, the setting and the view were all just fantastic.
We thought it was slightly odd that there was a whole kitchen area, but it had no pots or pans to cook with. Of course that would only matter if we were planning on cooking for ourselves, and I'm sure we could have requested some! And that's it. Can't fault it!

Verified reviewAbsolutely everything! I have spent months searching for a hotel in Santorini to celebrate our 20th anniversary. This place have won my approval due to several aspect. First the location in Imerovigli wich is in the middle of Oia and Fira. It was quite and a the same time serviced with everything you need. Second, the view was breathtaking. From both sides you can see the white buildings and little rock scene. Another reason is the villa itself met my requirements such as the cavy interior (including the bathroom) some hotels have ordinary bathroom which reduces the island vibe- for me at least. The room was equipped with everything and the plunge pool was nice. The terrace was beautiful also. The breakfast was perfect with some Greek choices. The receptionist Mr. Micheal did us lots of favors in regards of guiding us through the city with generous clarifications and advice. Overall, thanks Altana for providing us with the best and most memorable experience in our lives.
If only there was a sink in the kitchenette are rather than washing cups in the bathroom. There was no TV but who would want one when they have the best view in the world! The WiFi can be weak sometimes but it was totally understandable due to the cavy design.

Verified reviewThe view was absolutely breathtaking it felt like a dream! The villa was spotless and beautifully decorated, with a perfect mix of elegance and authentic Greek charm. The staff were so warm and welcoming, always ready to help with anything. Watching the sunset from the terrace was one of the most magical moments of our trip. Highly recommend for couples or anyone looking for peace and beauty.
Honestly, everything was lovely. Just keep in mind that the location is on a cliff, so there are quite a few steps to reach the property not ideal for someone with mobility issues. But for us, it was worth it for the view and experience!

Verified reviewLocation was centric, breakfast was ok. This area is packed with accommodations and all are more or less the same. Everything is overpriced, particularly in spring/summer, but this is what you get in Santorini.
Check in and check out is at a different building, which in the heat and narrow street of Santorini, with suitcases, is no the best experience. I would think having the receptionist (with a tablet maybe) come to the room is more convenient (rooms have a patio with tables/chairs). The air con has a fixed setting and is on auto so it keeps turning on and off all night, in such a quiet area this makes it difficult to sleep plus the room keeps changing from hot to cold, so one minute you wake up freezing and one hour later you are sweating.
We are very happy to have accommodated you at the Altana Cliffside Villas and thank you for your feedback. At the same time, we regret to see that you have surprisingly misunderstood certain aspects of the provided services, facilities and arrangements. Please allow us to clarify these points, for your consideration but also to ensure that prospective guests might not take these issues for fact. Air conditioning systems in all our rooms, suites and villas have multiple available settings, fully customisable by guests, who have total control throughout their stay, to choose their preferred settings, fan speeds, temperatures and have total freedom to alternate between all of these to their satisfaction. We would have very happilly assisted you with the process of using your Air Conditioning system's controller during your stay, if you had informed us about any discomfort you might have felt. We are always available to assist with any aspect of our guests experience at the property! There was no need whatsoever for you to not enjoy the exact temperature and ambiance you would have liked in your room, as the control was at your fingertips. In regards to the check in location, due to the particularity of the local architecture, where structures expand on the cliffside in a non conventional style (the hotels are not housed in single buildings with storeys / floors but comprise of clusters of units instead) there is indeed some distance betbeen our concierge reception area and our standalone Cliffside Villas. That said, the distance is a 30 second or up to a minute and a half walk depending on one's pace. This is inevitable for the majority of properties on the caldera. Our guests luggage is always carried by our porters, without exception and the placement of luggage in the rooms, suites or villas is fully taken care of by our staff, with no need for our guests to have to lift a finger at either check in or check out! This is why we always very kindly insist in our welcome message upon one's reservation confirmation, that our guests keep us informed with their arrival time and means, so that our staff meet you at the closest drop off point, to handle luggage and show you the way to the property. The truth is that we had tried to reach you with multiple messages to ensure that you would not have to carry your luggage on your own in an effort to locate us. We also kindly requested that you call us a few minutes before you arrive to the designated drop off point, for our staff to assist you, since you did not want us to arrange your arrival transfer. We regret you did not follow our kind suggestions that come from a longstanding experience of hosting guests on the cliffside. Your arrival could have been much easier, comfortable, stress free and seamless for you had you allowed us to look after you, rather than trying to reach us on your own when our team could have assisted you instead. At check out, again, as per our kind input, there was no need for you to handle your luggage on your own and carry it to the front desk. Our staff would have picked these up for you and escorted you to your vehicle / transfer; instead you brought your luggage to the front desk, when we kindly insisted that there is no need for it. These points aside, we sincerely hope you did enjoy your overall experience and the island during your time with us and we would most certainly welcome your contacting us with any further feedback or for any further clarification. All the staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble, they just wanted you to have a great stay, and we did. Loved our room, had everything we needed and the beds were so comfy.
