There was no lift and our rooms were on the second floor. A receptionist offered help with our luggage, but this was not necessary as our bags were not heavy. The rooms did not have a safe, but safe keeping of items is to my understanding available at the reception. This said, the positive factors far outweigh the negative ones and I would be happy to stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is located in the city centre, within a short walk to the Cathedral and bars plus restaurants etc. Our rooms were spacious enough, the beds were comfortable and everything worked as it should. The rooms were very clean, including after we returned to them after a day out. The housekeepers did a excellent job.

no free parking but we did get a discount for parking in the car park behind the hotel. you could not reserve a parking spot so just had to hope there would be space when you arrived.

the location was good very near the centre of the town and cathedral quarter. The staff were very helpful. I enjoyed the selection of food at breakfasts.

I didn't like the furnishing or lighting in the bar/restaurant - it just wasn't cosy or tempting to eat there.

I loved the proximity to the centre and the ease of parking at the rear of the hotel. The room was spacious and quiet and the bed very comfy and big. The staff were so friendly and welcoming - it makes a big difference when travelling alone ( as a woman) to feel so welcomed and my cocker spaniel was extra welcome which also eased any worries I had about bringing him. The little rear garden makes a very pretty entrance from the car park.

The water pressure in the shower was disappointing. Like, it was ok and the temperature stable which is half the battle, but it was a bit sad.

The lady in reception was really friendly and helpful. I also liked the generous checkout (1200) which allowed me to go out in the morning without my stuff, come back and freshen up before my train home.

The lounge area was a bit impersonal and the restaurant was not very inviting for evening meals.

The fire alarm went off briefly at 12.45 at night, which was stressful and quite disrupted our sleep. There was a cursory, written thanks ‘for our cooperation under our door in the morning but no explanation from the staff or recompense offered.

Only downside if you are in room at front of building traffic noise quite intrusive however late evening this dies down to almost nothing and we slept peacefully Stairs and no lift could be a problem to disabled guests but we managed in our eighties this is adequately pointed out when on web site

Property was period and well maintained with a good feel about it It is also right in the centre of things and only a short walk to cathedral and shops Large car park at back of hotel made life easy

We felt totally ripped off at the bar on the pricing. we ordered half a pint of draught beer a glass of coke and a packed of crisps. Only one third of a pint was delivered because that was how the bar served the beer, plus a bottl e of coke and the crisps. The bill was £9!! which is mor than twice the usual rate and would not have been acceptable with prior Knowledge. This soured the moment and we did not stay for lunch.

Reception, the bar, and the dining area are uninspiring and tired. For a hotel that makes much of its history, these could be more characterful.

Its location, comfortable bedroom, staff, on site car parking.
