Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomSquirrel Cottage is charming, comfortable, clean, tastefully furnished and decorated, with authentic character. Ideally located close to the village centre. Nicola is the perfect host. I have visited the area many, many times, but this time, Squirrel Cottage was an integral part of a wonderful holiday.

United KingdomThe location in Betws-y-coed and proximity to the Snowdonia mountain range are excellent, a huge plus for this cosy and hygge cottage.

United KingdomThe only downside to being located close to the action is the proximity to the busy A5. You get an amount of traffic noise at the front of the property but the thick stone walls really help.
The cottage is in an excellent location for quick access to transport links and local amenities. If you're of an outdoor persuasion then there are plenty of walks and rides on the doorstep, and the highly popular Ogwen Valley and Snowdon Range are not at all far away. The cottage itself is lovely and cosy and finished to a high standard.

Squirrel Cottage was in an excellent position in Bettws-y-Coed. Although the cottage is compact, it provides everything you could need for a lovely stay. The cottage was well served with facilities and very clean. Nichola was very helpful and on hand if needed. We would recommend this cottage for couples wanting a lovely stay in this delightful town.

United KingdomLoved our stay at squirrel cottage. Every detail has been carefully designed to ensure you are comfy and cosy… and you can’t beat a roaring fire and a roll top bath after a long day on the fells.

United KingdomOnly issue was the damp smell from the bathroom, fan not really big enough as the condensation was running off the wall and I started wheezing as I have asthma.
Lovely cosy cottage. Nice touches and well provisioned. Milk and biscuits ready after a long trip. Loved feeding the birds with the food provided. Nice touches. Nicolas responded immediately when the TV stopped working . Great service.

United KingdomNothing.
Amazing location in beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed, which has many hiking shops and good places for dinner. Great spot for exploring all that North Wales has to offer. Cottage was cosy, comfortable and well equipt. We enjoyed being able to relax by the fire in the evenings. We didn't find parking to be a problem and could easily find a spot on the road nearby. The host Nicola communicated very well with us before and during our stay to answer any questions we may have.

United KingdomA fantastically located cottage. A stone's throw from the centre of Betws-y-coed centre and so perfect for lovely walks. The garden is absolutely lovely, we really enjoyed sitting watching the birds. The kitchen is also very well stocked with utensils so great for self catering, and the bed was extremely comfortable. We got very lucky with the on-road parking nearby, especially given the stunning weather and many visitors to the area, but be aware that you may have to walk a short distance in the busy season as there's no dedicated parking. The shower is quite low and also quite claustrophobic because of the round rail setup (not the best for tall visitors). But it's a great excuse to use the lovely big bath instead which I hugely recommend! I also can't thank Nicola enough for her great communication and helpfulness during our stay. Wonderful host!

United KingdomThe cottage felt a bit damp and could have benefitted from a de-humidifier. The cottage could do with a deep clean but this may be due to visiting out of season. The pillows could do with an upgrade (bit hard). There was a selection of DVDs to watch, but there didn’t appear to be a DVD player and we couldn’t get Netflix to work.
Great location, in walking distance of the centre of Betws-y-coed. Providing a bird feeder, a bird book and binoculars to watch the birds was a nice touch.

JapanUnfortunately, the living room had a strong musty smell. The mattress was too soft for us. The throw on the bed had a small oily wet patch which was concerning.
The garden is naturally made and beautiful with some friendly visitors, such as Robin. The bathroom was nice size and we enjoyed bath time. The cottage itself was beautiful and finished to a high standard.
