Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe food although tasty was quite pricey for what it was, but I guess that is the Lake District thing.
Great location for walking in the lakes. The staff were very friendly and helpful particularly Jordan and Mr Everton (didn’t get his name). Would definitely recommend and stay again.

United KingdomWhat a fantastic little hotel in the most beautiful of locations. The hotel itself is really well presented, our bedroom furnished to a very high standard, with an excellent shower. We ate in the restaurant one evening and it was very good, with the staff providing great service. Good breakfast too. The weather was good for us, so we enjoyed the sun-trap beer garden both afternoons. I'd recommend 2 short walks from the hotel. Firstly across Slaters Bridge to the Cathedral Cave (which was a delightful surprise). Secondly, the path over the hill to the small village of Elterwater, where there is another lovely beer garden in the Eltermere Inn. Overall, a great little short break.

United KingdomNothing to dislike about the pub. But, the drive to the pub was a little hairy, off the beaten track and some single track roads.
Lovely country pub Attentive staff Excellent food Very comfortable beds and pillows Quiet location Closed the bar at 10pm, which initially we were abit irritated about, but in hindsight was a good thing.

United KingdomPoor WiFi but that wasn’t a big problem! There was extensive building work going on next door that we were not informed about! Started early and finished late afternoon! We were out lots so again wasn’t a big problem but it would have been if we were!
Very comfortable and clean dog friendly annex! Perfect location and exceptional views.

United KingdomCertain Parking slots for residents were too narrow and can't get out once you parked the car. Room service (dinner) I asked for was Fish & chips and batter was too thick for my liking and I didn't sit at the pub or ordered any drinks. But the atmosphere seems nice.
Small cosy place. Staff was excellent and really helpful. Checked in little late, tired after long drive. Reception was happily letting me to order dinner (room service) before kitchen closed, sleeping quality was great with no noise from other rooms. Bedroom was perfect for me and cleaning quality was excellent. Credit to Housekeeping and morning breakfast asked for Avacado on Toast and a good portion and yummy.

United KingdomFor info: Be careful on the drive to the hotel as the roads are very narrow for the last 1000 yards ish. Do not speed as you will hit something. The DBB option includes £25.00 per person per evening meal. There were only a few options under this price, which could be extended. Everything else (main courses) on the menu was more than £25.00.
We loved everything. Lovely room (deluxe suite). The shower was one of the best ever, massive. A cracking location out of the way. Great base for walks in the area. A special mention to George, Katy, and Chris the Chef, excellent service, and they are nice, normal, decent folk to talk with. I forgot the name of the other young fella, so our apologies. The food was really lush, and the breakfasts were plentiful. Lamb the first night, Game pie the second. My missus had the salmon first night and burger the second and was well impressed. It is also a nice short walk (about 30 mins ish) over the hill to the Eltermere Inn, then onward (3 mins) to the Britannia Inn. Another 5 mins walk would take you to Wainwrights in Chapel Stile. It is a nice short drive to Coniston, Ambleside/Grasmere and Hawkeshead if you want to drive somewhere close by. 10/10, well recommended, thank you.

United KingdomI thought the breakfast was a bit expensive if you would only have wanted some yogurt and fruit which is all I generally choose in the mornings.
Really comfy bed. Bathroom was a really good size and the shower worked well and was intuitive to use (no engineering degree needed to work it). I was particularly glad to be supplied with a teapot and a variety of decaff and caffeinated drinks options. Beautiful views of the valley from my window and great walking from the door. Lounge had a good variety of walking books to browse.

United KingdomEven though it was June, the room was quite cold when we arrived - no central heating working but there were a couple of electric radiators available which did the job. Could really do with some sort of curtain for the front door though. No TV available until I fathomed out it was Internet tv (iplayer, itvx etc) and it needed connecting to the WiFi. The WiFi signal was only available right at the front door on my phone though - it could do with a booster because it was fine in the main building.
We stayed in a self contained annexe across from the main building so it was very quiet and secluded. Limited food menu for the evening meal but excellent quality food - we didn't stay for breakfast.
