Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomJanet was welcoming and dedicated to ensuring we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Her breakfasts were extra special with homemade touches including delicious freshly baked bread and marmalade daily. The room we stayed in was spotless and the bed was super comfortable… we felt so at home and had such a great stay. Janet is a wonderful host and helped with local knowledge about places to visit, public transport and local food which cater for vegans. We highly recommend a stay here as Robin Hood Bay is a central place to visit all of the places of interest on the North Yorkshire coast.

We loved our stay here - lovely room, breakfast and garden to relax in. Hosts were really nice too giving us recommendations and very friendly. We walked all the time to Robin Hoods Bay and caught the regular bus to Whitby and Scarborough - if people were less mobile these ran every half an hour.

United KingdomJust small things that didn't spoil our stay. There is limited on-road parking in summer. We have a long wheel-based VW van, and it was a squeeze. Janet and Steve moved their car so we could fit in, but I was a bit nervous leaving it on a corner on a narrow road. Not a problem in a car. My only other niggle was the duvet was incredibly heavy and dense. Luckily it was very warm when we visited, so I kept my legs out. Just my personal preference, but I would have liked it to have been light and snuggly.
Janet is a great host, very friendly and attentive. The room was spacious with a king-size bed and even a sofa. Large bathroom with a bath and an electric shower over. The shower was lovely and hot and had good water pressure. The room faced onto the road, but it was fairly quiet, and there was no traffic at night. We had a good night's sleep both nights. Curtains and blinds were of good quality and kept out light if needed. We drew the curtains at the front as the top deck passengers of the double-decker get a good view if you come out of the bathroom naked! The room was clean and beautifully decorated. The bed linen was nice and soft. The veggie breakfast was great. There was cereal if wanted. We had freshly prepared fruit and yoghurt. Tasty veggie breakfast, the tomatoes were delicious. It's worth staying for Janet's amazing bread alone! Absolutely delicious! It was so good, the second morning we skipped the cooked breakfast and just had more toast! Janet also catered for my allergy with no fuss. The dining room was very relaxing. We liked that there was no intrusive radio or strange music that you sometimes get. The whole house has a lovely vintage feel, but is clean and light. We only glimpsed the garden as we were mostly out, but it was glorious!

United KingdomThe only thing we would change was the bed – it was a little too firm for our liking, and not particularly forgiving on weary hiking legs! The mattress itself was a bit unyielding, although the bed was a great size. Just a bit more comfort would have been the cherry on top.
We had the pleasure of staying at this delightful vegetarian B&B and it was absolutely lovely! From the moment we arrived, the friendly owners made us feel right at home with a warm welcome and a genuine smile. Our room was surprisingly spacious, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was a real treat, with a hearty vegetarian full English option, cereal, and fresh fruit – more than enough to set you up for a day of adventures and exploring. The location couldn’t be better, just a short walk to Robin Hood’s Bay, perfect for discovering this charming coastal village. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommend!

United KingdomRobin Hood's Bay is a lovely spot and I would highly recommend Thorpe Green House. Janet and Steve were wonderful hosts and the room was large, clean, very comfortable and (despite the weather) very warm. The breakfasts - including home baked bread - were also excellent. On the day I was due to leave I was caught out by a sudden, heavy snowfall which made local roads, including the A171 to Scarborough, impassable. Janet and Steve very kindly offered to put me up for one more night without charge - thank you so much!
