Hotel is beginning to show its age and parts of it look "dated". On arrival asked if it was possible to have afternoon tea but was told it had to be pre-booked which was a surprise for a hotel of this size. Was offered tea and biscuits in the bar instead.

Comfortable bedroom and good bistro. The latter was in strong demand, so booking is essential.

Our room was exceedingly hot and unbesrable due to the hot weather and no windows open. In fact we could only open one window and only to a fraction. Seem to have gone overboard on the safety of window opening restrictions to such an extent you end up with hyperthermia instead! Obviously there was no air conditioning.

Convinient for our trip, at the heart of a town we have many memories of. The staff were very friendly and informed. It was great having the ev chargers in the carpark.

Some rooms could do with an upgrade. The room was in front of the hotel, and there was noisy road traffic with the window open. So hot in room with no air con and no fan so had to have window open. Cracked window, not sightly. Pricey for what you get. Stayed a couple of days later, the room was much better.

Pleasant and comfortable hotel. Great breakfast. Would stay again, but ask for a specific room. Friendly and helpful staff. Shout out to breakfast maitre d. She was lovely.

Rooms were dated, ideally breakfast would be served from 7 to enable those travelling for work to grab breakfast before they leave.

The TV was very variable in that it kept shutting itself down. This happened on a number of occasions. Reception was good for mobile phone. The hotel phone for use in room had a broken connection and could not be used.

The floorboards in my room were creaky The shower couldn’t be adjusted and so my shower was hot.

Being such a large and old building, inevitably the upkeep must be very difficult. We enjoyed the decor but some may consider it tired. This place is less suitable for those who struggle with mobility. Lots of long corridors, steps and doors to pass through.

This place certainly has character. It’s a massive hotel and breakfast was superb. Staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Dog friendly. The hotel is located next to two pleasant gardens which is perfect for walking the dog. An excellent shower!

My bed was a bit hard even though I like a firm mattress. A few maintenance issues in bathroom eg toilet roll holder falling off, toilet seat wasn’t secure and didn’t fit, hot water went off one day and no cold water another day. Decor in accommodation was dated apart from the bathroom. Dog friendly hotel but couldn’t take dog into restaurant or bar when we ate. Water pouring from an overflow near our room, for about 12 hours overnight, disturbed our sleep.

Staff were amazing! Food in the restaurants was really good. The spa facilities were lovely. Lots of communal space downstairs. Cleanliness was excellent in my opinion (I ran a cleaning business) Very near some beautiful places to walk.
