How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Unfortunately, I was unlucky and on my first night the boiler wasn’t working, so I had a cold shower, which wasn’t very pleasant. But other than that everything else was great.
It’s a great place to stay, facilities and staff are great. Breakfast is also very good.

Lack of mirrors or places to get ready, noisy at night and breakfast was relatively poor, ordered poached eggs and they was over done,

I was put in a room for disabled people. The sink was extremely low, there were red cords everywhere to alarm the staff in case of emergency, it did not look like the "normal" room that you get when you book the standard room. It was a bit dissapointing when I found out.
The hotel looks modern and beautiful. The breakfast was really good and tasty. Staff was friendly. The pictures of the room that I booked were very nice, but I was put in a different room that did not represent the expectations.

Just a couple of minor points, my room could have done with some coat hooks on the wall and a chair in the room would just finish it off.
Smart, stylish contemporary hotel in a beautiful Victorian building, great mix of old and new. Brilliant location in the centre of Manchester, next to tram stops and a short walk to anywhere. Very quiet on a night, great breakfast as well.

The walls In the rooms could do with a revamp of paint. The original room provided could do with some more paint work needed on the walls. The new room I was given was a lot better but still could do with some paint work.
The warm welcome and help from the staff. The location of the hotel which was within walking distance of where I needed to be. The reception area and the breakfast included. The option to check out later.

Breakfast staff and service portent trained moons appeared to know what to do and also quality of breakfast depending on on who was in the kitchen. One morning was superb. The next morning very poor

Oddly no usb points in rooms. Had to use the TV to charge my phone as didn’t bring a plug . Room was a teeny bit tired, but conscious this is being picky for such a good rate.
Great location and great value for money - enjoyed the bar and the breakfast. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

The standard room was not worth a four star rating: dated and not properly maintained.
The breakfast, location and staff were really nice. Everything on the ground floor was well decorated and well maintained.

The bed was not very comfortable and the shower neither. The commands for the shower were outside it, so it a was a bit difficult to make it work well.

Prices hiked up after my first couple of stays.

The air con wasn’t working correctly on one of the hottest weekends of the year. We were given a room fan and the staff tried their best to make us comfortable but we were there for two nights and the first night we couldn’t really sleep in the heat. A heads up on the air con issue prior to check in would have been nice.
