Evening meals were generally disappointing. The menu each day referred to seasonal vegetables, but I guess they were generally frozen and not fresh. We were self-drive residents, and there was limited parking - we were told it would be best to leave our car in a space when secured (this was clearly unsatisfactory). It meant that if out touring for the day we needed to return early to hopefully find a parking space. When we arrived I thought we were fortunate to find a space right by the main entrance. It transpired that while having our evening meal we had a visit from the main receptionist explaining that we were somewhat blocking the emergency exit, and that if we didn't move to a space which had become available in the rear garage we faced the possibility of receiving a fine, together with a fine being imposed on the hotel. I found this approach pretty annoying, particularly as the escape door from the dining room was constantly held open with a chair which itself restricted the escape route! Our waitress who witnessed the receptionist's approach immediately apologised - she was horrified. On another occasion we asked a waitress if we could close the external door as it was quite chilly. Our request was immediately attended to, but another older waitress then re-opened the door saying "It's not cold, just fresh!". Staff training is urgently needed! I've tried to make my observations fair to everyone and I hope they're accepted as such.

Excellent position - brilliant view from our room (102). Our room had been recently refurbished. Breakfasts were generally quite good, and most waiters and waitresses were very helpful, but see additional comments below. General reviews of the hotel were pretty negative, but in fairness our experience was generally OK - maybe we were in one of the upgraded superior rooms. Also, it appeared that an effort had been made to tidy up the common lounge and bar areas.

Limited parking, sloping floor in the room, shower needs a really good scrub, extractor fan didn’t work and needs cleaning (fire hazard) , paint coming off the door, walls need repainting - splashes of something all over the walls along with scuff marks, thread bare carpet in several places …….

    Location was good

The hotel room was very old, lights were very dim so really difficult to see, there was a really muggy smell in the bathroom and bedroom. Beds aren’t all that comfortable, very squeaky.

The location itself was beautiful, located right near the beach and is accessible to the town

It’s grubby, needs a good deep clean in all areas. It’s also unkempt, a little effort to clean and tidy up would work wonders. I appreciate it’s an old and tired hotel but it’s dirty and there’s no care taken. For example there’s an old disused cig bin on the floor at the front, just dispose of it and sweep the area! Sweep the outside seating area. But mainly the hotel needs a good clean throughout. The rooms need deep cleaning and some tlc. Dirt and grime around the bath and generally around the bathroom and bedroom. Sticky chairs need wiping clean etc. It could be a decent cheaper choice of hotel but the cleanliness is not at an acceptable level currently.

Location is great. Breakfast was decent. Some staff were great some a little grumpy.

The first room we were given was filthy, the bed was on a slope and there appeared to be poo on the toilet roll.

When we complained about the room we were given they immediately moved us to a better one which was much more like the standard we were expecting. The staff were very helpful.

The hotel is in dire need of refurbishment. The carpet and decor in the main areas was shabby and worn with dirty marks on places. The doors need repainting and some had handles missing. The main landing areas were very poor. We were on a half board basis. The food was not up to standard and we were only given the option to eat at 6.30 which was far too early for us. This was apparently to fit in with coach parties. Very disappointed and resulted in us paying extra to eat out. The welcome on reception leaves a lot to be desired . We struggled up steep steps with cases and no offer of help and on arrival at the Recep desk heads were down until I actually spoke. Not a good first impression.

The view from the room was spectacular. The bathroom was clean and refurbished. A good size . One member of staff was very helpful at breakfast time.

As mentioned in many other reviews, the hotel needs to be thoroughly deep cleaned, redecorated and how it's managed should be reviewed. Although St Ives is an expensive area, the price charged was higher than a Premier Inn (even in Central London), without the cleanliness and smartness of a Premier Inn. I'm not a particularly fussy guest but there were many, many problems that need to be addressed, including 1. Strong smell of damp in corridors. 2. Carpets are old and worn and need to be replaced throughout. 3. Lack of water pressure makes showering difficult and sometimes nothing comes out of the taps 4. There was no extractor fan in the bathroom. 5. Every surface in the bedroom and bathroom was covered in dust (bath panels, lamp base, bedside cabinet etc). 6. Cups in the bedroom were dirty. 7. Only two teabags were provided for two people staying for four days. 8. The fan in the bedroom was old, noisy, tatty and falling apart. 9. There was only one lamp in the bedroom and not enough plug sockets by the beds for two phone chargers and lamp. 10. The safety catches on the bedroom window were broken. 11. Litter around the external entrance steps should be swept away. 12. There was open access to the guest corridors, with no restriction on who could walk into the building. 13. The buffet breakfast area needs to be monitored and kept clean and tidy. The plates were not completely clean. 14. More care around the hotel's appearance is needed, for instance cleaning equipment was left in the main corridor for several days. 15. The actual bedroom looked nothing like the website image in terms of soft furnishings.

The staff were all helpful and friendly. The beds were clean and comfortable.

Limited parking for the size of the hotel. If you can’t get a space, public parking nearby but very busy so very lucky to get a space. Took me an hour to park the car as all car parks were full. Finally found a space 1 mile away in a street.

Hotel needs a referb it’s very dated it has so much potential but looks like it’s not been touched for years. Also needs a good clean. Most of the staff were friendly but a few were very rude especially the lady at breakfast, however the lady at check in was really friendly. The breakfast wasn’t great quality and was expensive for what it was we paid £15 and could have got a lot better quality then we had very disappointing. We also paid extra for a sea view and when we arrived in are room all you could see was a massive tree unless you stood in the corner and stuck your head out there was no sea view. When I spoke to reception about this they said well it is a sea view in winter when the leaves come off 🤔 I was staying in summer. The parking is also a big issue. We spent £25 extra on parking.

    Location is great
