Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumBreakfast more than sufficient, and adapted to everyone’s taste. Ideal location to explore Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. The Bothy at Ivy Cottage provides everything needed for perfect holiday. We also enjoyed Fearga’s warm hospitality. She is a wonderful host who did everything, and more, to make our holiday as comfortable as possible.

United KingdomWe had a lovely stay at the Bothy at Ivy Cottage and couldn't have asked for anything more. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and at ease, whilst also giving us the privacy to enjoy the seclusion that we wanted. We also really appreciated the quality and variety of the breakfast options, aswell as the comfortableness of the Bothy in general. Would definitely stay again if the occasion arises.

The Bothy was small but comfortable and perfect for a few days. Location is good and convenient for Hadrian's Wall. Best of all, Fearga, our host was extremely welcoming and provided all the ingredients for an excellent breakfast. She also made good suggestions for where to eat and things to do. Thank you Fearga & Graham. We enjoyed our stay and loved spotting the wildlife including the local stoat and red legged partridges.

A cosy and private place in the middle of the countryside with a beautiful view. Located nearby Haltwhistle with many options for meals and drinks. Hadrians wall can be reached within a few minutes. Fully equipped. Individual breakfast considering all wishes after prior notification. Comfy beds. Fearga and Graham are such friendly and open minded hosts. United KingdomVery welcoming hosts! Helpful advice on how to fit in all of our plans for the area. Received detailed information prior to arriving. Breakfast options and portions were ample, quality food. We took them up on the BBQ offer and with good weather thoroughly enjoyed cooking outdoors. The actual bothy was better in person than in photos. Good products used for the bed linen, towels and dishes etc. Well designed for a small space. Quality and cosy! We loved the cows greeting us through the window in the morning.

United KingdomFearga very kindly did our breakfast washing up on one day, but this wasn't the norm. I'd rather not have had to do our own washing up on the other two mornings. Good that there was a fridge in the bothy, however it was only small and full up with our fab breakfast items. There wasn't, therefore, any room for our bottle of rose wine and cider! A suggestion is to provide a fulll size fridge (there is the room for it).
We loved the quirkiness of the accommodation, a 220 year old bothy, converted to a high standard. Very clean and comfortable. Very secluded, which we loved, but easy to get onto the main A69 to travel out and about. The breakfasts were veritable feasts! Fearga was happy to supply us with more strawberries 🍓 when we asked! Lots of useful information provided about the surrounding area, and several recommendations for places to eat. We particularly enjoyed our dining experience at Il Piccolo in Corbridge (about a 25 minute drive away, but well worth the journey). Shame that it was necessary to put the heater on - in mid-June! - but it was very efficient and kept us warm at night. A very nice extra was the choice of a bottle of red or white wine on arrival.

NetherlandsWe should have stayed longer, two nights is by far too short to get a proper experience of the area! Our opinion and advice to all is to stay at least several days, take time to explore the area and have yourself pampered in luxury by this wonderful place and its attentive lovely owners.
Long before our stay, Fearga & Graham already reached out to us with useful information what to expect, how to get there and how they could personalize our breakfast. The minute we arrived, they came out to welcome us and it was very nice getting acquainted to these wonderful people. There's an interesting story behind it, but most of all they make you comfortable and at home in their tastfully renovated and decorated bothy. Breakfast was amazing and once again: thank you for the carefully chosen (local & fresh) products, they were delicious! The place is a perfect base to explore Hadrian's Wall. Better said, it's "ground zero", right in the middle of many interesting sites and sections within 30 min drive.
