Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

A comfortable and quiet hotel very close to Edinburgh city center. Its location has pros and cons. Because it's not in the city center, it's quiet and peaceful. You can get a good night's sleep, as the city center is incredibly noisy. But you have to walk about 15 minutes to the train station or the city center. But even with suitcases, we managed. The hotel is in an old, historic building, which has its charm, and I really like that, but—be warned! There's no elevator. For me - ok, but if someone has any trouble walking... Our room was very large and comfortable. I could even give it a higher rating, but I missed a decent breakfast. Food is delivered to your door, there's plenty of it, and it's delicious. But I'd prefer to have a proper meal in the dining room.

United StatesWe enjoyed this little hotel very much. It is a good value for the money and location. We have zero complaints!
This is such a charming hotel! It’s a convenient walk to the city center and sits on a quiet, mainly residential street with wide sidewalks. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room after filling out our breakfast request form. As we walked upstairs to our room, we admired the bright pink ceiling and skylight. Our room was huge and looked out onto a small garden. (Thankfully, our hosts had thoughtfully equipped our room with a fan during an unusual heat wave.) The bathroom was small but laid out efficiently. Breakfast was quietly delivered to the room each morning around 6 am. It is not the most glamorous of breakfasts, but it does the trick. Overall, a very comfortable stay and nice choice if you are visiting Edinburgh during Fringe.

United StatesCould have used a fan in room 16 one night. It would have been nice to have a hot breakfast, but I enjoyed all my choices - funny little system, but it worked! It was odd to have the milk sit out all night for the cereal, but luckily it didn't spoil. I was grateful for the in room coffee so I didn't have to trek all the way down 3 flights in the morning.
Quiet room, quiet street, convenient to tram and Holyrood. The cute, little cheddar cheese from breakfast came in clutch when hiking around and I needed a snack. Ditto on the apples. So grateful for the assist with my bag on the first night to the top floor - I lucked out, but don't count on the assist - pack light!

IndiaLovely room. Give the breakfast a miss - not only is it not worth it, it's a cornucopia of packaging. Totally not eco-friendly.

United KingdomFresh cold milk in the morning not the day before
Wasn’t happy with the breakfast. Was delivered in a paper bag to our room the night before (well I assume it was at night as we were out until late so cannot confirm when). There was milk and yogurt in the bag that was warm therefore could not be consumed in the morning on my cereal.

Czech RepublicIt didn’t have an elevator. It wasn’t a problem for us because we were just me and my husband, but it is something to consider if you have mobility limitations.
The location was great, beautiful place, kind staff and the room was clean and spacious.

New ZealandI didn’t like the breakfast set up . A good idea to pre- order but the milk was warm the yoghurt was warm as left outside the room for an hour or two. It was not satisfying eating cereal with tiny wooden spoon . I feel better if large fridge in dining room with bfast bags put in there for people to collect and recycling receptacle for appropriate bits and bobs.
Great location, calm and quiet. Nice big rooms.

United StatesReasonable Parking is not available. street parking requires large amount of funds and has to be renewed every 4 hours at a meter. Space lease elsewhere is necessary if you are not hanging at the property all day.
Location on private street close walking to sites.

New ZealandThe breakfast options weren't the best, but it was quite nice to have these delivered to my door each morning. Would have liked the room to be cleaned maybe once or twice during my stay.
The hotel was in a great location, easy to walk into the city centre. It was clean and comfortable. Despite being an old building, it was looked after well and felt fresh but with the classic charm! Really great value for money. Would recommend, and would return!
