How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt is in an excellent location with an easy walk into Oban and therefore access to local facilities without the need to take the car. The room we had (room 1) was in very good order for the most part. The newly refurbished ensuite was excellent and the room did have a great view of the water in the distance. There was plenty of room to leave a car and walk into Oban.
On the down side, there was hardly anywhere for clothes - more hanging places are needed and some drawers for clothes and apart from balancing the cases on two little stools there was nowhere else to keep them. The roller blinds didn't work when we arrived, but I managed to fix the right side one as the chain for opening/closing had come off and on the left side there was no chain. Also not working was the bedside light to the right of the bed. There were no glasses in the ensuite for things like toothbrushes. Our biggest problem was the lack of any plates or cutlery to do our own breakfast. I'm well aware that on the email correspondence prior to arriving you say "We want to remind you that that you have booked a ROOM ONLY stay. This simply means that we do not have the facilities to offer a cooked breakfast unless you are staying at one of our apartments" That's fair enough but a much better and fairer wording would be "you cannot eat any breakfast in Dalrigh unless you bring your own food, plates and cutlery" On the night of Thursday 28th the fire alarm was activated about 10.30pm. Guests had to evacuate while the Fire Brigade check things out. No apology was given to any of the guests as far as I'm aware and no explanation on why the alarm went off - was it a fire? It has proved impossible to find the name of the person in charge of the accommodation - they don't live on site.

Verified reviewRoom No. 8 had a view of the main road into Oban but also a view of the water. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room and a large communal fridge in the common room downstairs where you can label and put other food items. 5 minute walk into town.
No staff on site and they don't clean your room during your stay. Maybe make clearer on the booking.com website when booking the difference between a hotel v's an Airbnb style room? The upstairs rooms are clustered around a small landing. Lots of guests enjoyed slamming their room doors. This was annoying late at night. The fire alarm went off at 10.30pm one night, so we all vacated the premises. As it was raining, sat in our car in the carpark until someone drove to the premises to switch the alarm off. Appears to have been a false alarm, there was no explanation or apology from the guy that showed up.

Verified reviewLocation was good. I stayed 3 years ago in it's previous form.
Ideally a small fridge in the room and some basic cutlery would be an improvement.

The shower was terrible. You couldn’t adjust the temperature easily, if you wanted hot water, it was scalding.

Verified reviewGood location. Quiet, clean accommodation and easy to come & go as you please. Great view of the bay from room 8
Unfortunately, we passed it on the way into Oban & spent almost an hour trying to find it from the town because we were convinced it should have been ' sharp left' as you came on to Dunollie road from the A85. So had to phone the owner, who guided us to the accommodation. And it was very obvious, once you got there!!! But we felt that bit of instruction was misleading & should have said ' sharp left at the bottom' of Dunollie Road just before the roundabout.

Verified reviewLocation & parking. Comfortable bed.
The room was very basic, no drawers, shelves or towel rails. We’ve given a low rate for cleanliness, not because it wasn’t clean when we arrived but we were there for two nights and the room wasn’t serviced. The worst thing was that there was no staff on the premises. We had a problem and called the “ help” number but got no reply. This also happened to another guest.

People coming in at 1am as the corridor is open you heat everything from someone coming in and just talking plus footsteps echoing.

No help from any staff. Not a glass in the room, or bathroom no remote for the TV when asked about remote staff said we will put one in your room. Obviously they were too busy to check if the remote actually worked.. Remote left in the room was absolutely useless
Hi Douglas We are sorry to hear you weren’t pleased with staff but I am a little confused. You say clearly, “no help from staff” yet go on to mention staff replacing a remote that was missing. Was there another concern you didn’t receive help with? I can’t see any additional requests or messages that we missed. I am always looking to make improvements so any detail would be appreciated. Liam
