Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe only gripe is that the room had no human-level windows, the light came from three rooflights high up, operated remotely. I was hoping for a view. Also, the bed was advertised as extra large double, and I expected that to mean super king size, but it seemed like a fairly standard double to me. But these are only small issues, I'd stay here again. I think the prices were quite high given the size of the room but it was a lovely hotel.
It's a beautiful, historic hotel in a beautiful location, with a lovely pub and restaurant. The breakfast was great and it was nice to have a welcome tray and water in the room.

Absolute little gem found in fantastic surroundings, Only live 30 minutes away but never knew this place existed. Really cozy "olde world" bar and restaurant areas. We happened upon a lovely summer afternoon & there was free live music in the garden with a separate garden menu offering wood fired pizzas and snacks. We opted for the garden menu and were not disappointed by the white pizza. The inside menu looked amazing too.

United KingdomThe room could have been a bit better, expected a window we could view from. The skylights were a welcome addition as it was quite warm.
Breakfast was really good. Evening meal. Slight hiccup but soon rectified. So very good. Lovely location. Really nice staff.

United KingdomI know this can't be helped but there was a pretty bad smell from the little glen over the way, it was a hot humid August day and there is obviously some kind of effluent running through there so the raw sewage aroma wasn't great. Also, someone was smoking right under our room in the middle of the night and fumigated the place. Bank holiday weekend I know but a little pricey for a pretty small room, paid £170 for one night.
Beautiful place indoors and out, great location, great beer and superb breakfast, excellent beer garden, friendly professional staff.

United KingdomThe gluten free bread at breakfast was terrible,- there's a lot of good makes out there, so please find one! The place as a whole did feel a bit raggy round the edges and at £215 for bed and breakfast we didn't feel it was great value for money
The location was lovely and the breakfast was mostly excellent. Staff were lovely and very helpful

Location, staff, and food all 1st class Booked as a stopover for The Piece Hall but so much more than that . It is a country location but only 3 miles from Halifax. Ubers a plenty so there is no problem with transport. Hotel immaculate with lots of character and the food and service absolutely top notch. We will definitely go back ..

Lovely setting Weather was good so eating and drinking outside was good In the evening they had heating so we could enjoy the outside for longer The restaurant area was very nice

United KingdomThe bed was very hard but I believe I would have gotten used to it. Would prefer a walk in shower but everything works perfectly. Only real disappointment was the food. The al a carte menu was expensive and I have to say the food didn't match the price. The lamb I had was very chewy and only look warm. (But this wouldn't stop us returning to Shibden Mill!!!). We agreed it would probably be better eating the pizza that were being cooked outside rather than eat the restaurant food.
Lovely location, breakfast was excellent, room was small but the small touch of class is evident wherever you looked.

United KingdomIt is on the more expensive side, at this price a little more of a choice would have been useful. IE a selection of sauces with the steak or a choice of smoked bacon at breakfast. It would have also been good to see coffee bags in the rooms (Taylors are a Yorkshire company); instant coffee some of which could go stale in time was a disappointment. But overall these are very minor gripes on what was a very pleasant stay.
Beautiful, old hotel, well maintained with very good food and excellent service.
