How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I arrived at the property at 11 PM at night on first look the flat look well decorated. However we moved upstairs to the living area when we came down to the beds we noticed the smell in the bed sheets and vomiting smell in one of the room. When complained about it the host was so rude to suggest that you leave the property at 2AM at night. Instead of suggesting that she would inspect this with someone she took the feedback negatively and started blaming me. I selected this property because of its location to the city centre but had a horrible experience dealing with the host and strange smell in the house. Also there were no instructions provided for the wifi and when asked instead of providing she told me why didn’t you ask me before. Such a pathetic experience we had which changed the whole vibe of our holidays.
Due to a cancellation we reduced our rate to get a last minute booking - this is, I believe, why this guest booked - Cheap! He texted delighted on arrival and complimented the apartment. He shortly after, demanded a check out at 1pm as my check out of 11am was not normal and I was ‘robbing’ guests of time, and that he wouldn’t have a full 12 hrs in the home. Also claiming turnaround is normally 2 hours?! (His departure left my housekeeper today with a 5 hour clean!) By 2am when I refused to allow him check out of 1pm unless he paid an extra fee - he refused of course, he then started to complain about the apartment and a smell - strange in the previous 2-3 hours it DIDN’T smell. WiFi login details are in the initial instructions emailed and are on a sheet in both bedrooms & living area. When his complaints of smell etc came in, I offered a full refund to leave, if it was as bad as he claimed then surely he wouldn’t want to stay? He of course didn’t leave as apartment, all bedding & linen were completely clean. His family tore things up, left pots pans ruined & generally left a huge mess that is the worst we’ve had all year. This man is rude, delusional & manipulative so photo evidence has been sent to Bdc of the damage they’ve caused, with a report and request to block. Please other hosts BEWARE and do not accept bookings from these guests.

The amount of dust, hadn’t been dusted in weeks, and the floor in bedrooms not been hovered in a very long time, radiators and under beds , found lots of hairs, nails, ear plugs, business cards etc, when phoned to explain situation, Jane was not very helpful.

Verified reviewCollecting keys was super easy. Absolutely fantastic location right on the river. House was bigger than expected, lots of amenities, plenty of space. Kitchen and living area were very nice.
Decor was complete hodge-podge. The half used bottles of soap and shampoo, combined with lots of other little odds and ends you normally only find in a house that’s currently being lived in made it seem like it’s a house that’s currently lived in. The door closers downstairs in the bathroom and bedroom were REALLY annoying. Beds were not very comfy.
Agree a comfy spacious apartment. As this is a very busy apartment booked most nights (therefore lived in) we do provide many conveniences for guests such as tissues cotton buds shampoo body wash etc - usually much appreciated and very much used . Beds are such a personal opinion . the large bed is a high quality bed & mattress personally one I find very comfortable . The second bed is being changed out mid December. First we’ve ever heard of door closures being annoying which are a safety (& privacy) feature. Anyway delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay .
