Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing really. Locks on shower and toilet doors didn't feel they would hold up to much but that's nitpicking.
Relaxed, informal and efficient staff. Lack of noise during sleeping hours was great

RussiaVery nice location, was able to get everywhere with minimal effort. Offered a large variety of rooms. Staff is friendly and super helpful. Personally, I would like to highlight their volunteer, Finn, who was very accommodating upon my arrival and through the duration of the stay. This made my stay at StJames the highlight of the London trip.

Initial welcome was warm and staff helpful, free tea and coffee/free breakfast great additions, outside space roomy and great for chilling. Location was excellent.

New ZealandBeds are very uncomfortable, could feel the metal bars through the mattress. Mattress very old & worn. Showers need upgrading. Nowhere to store luggage in the rooms. Excessive charge for a towel at £5 & also to store luggage was £5.
Location was great & close to tube station to get around the city. Very sociable place. Good outdoor activities and space to use.

GermanyThe mattresses were very uncomfortable; you could feel the slatted frame. Under the bed, it was extremely dusty and dirty. The boxes under the beds for storing personal belongings could hardly be pulled out. In addition, the boxes had such sharp corners that I even cut myself. Others in my room had the same problem. Breakfast was more than sufficient. However, the staff should be instructed not to touch the pancakes with their fingers when serving them, but to use a fork or gloves; the same applies to toast.
The staff was very friendly and eager to help. They made an effort to offer something to the guests every evening (entertainment, game nights, etc.). However, you can tell that they are not professional workers, but rather volunteers.

Atmosphere, people, interior design, beds - very comfortable, the building - good air inside, breakfast - excellent and it was such a nice surprise that it is served. And the free dinner for 30 people was an unusual gift. Water in the bathrooms - hot, nice.

GermanyAlways with hostels is that you have less private space. But that is what you book ofcourse. So that is your decision if you want that.
It’s close to the city and the employees try to make it as social as possible to meet more people and have more togetherness.

United KingdomNothing I didn’t like. It was basic but it was a hostel
Location on a busy tube line and a very short walk from the station. Was cheap and cheerful. But clean and comfortable. What you’d expect from a hostel. Breakfast was basic, there is an option for an evening meal but we didn’t take them up on it. Beautiful outside area. Perfect for back packers or those on a budget. We had a double room with en-suite. Even had a fridge

HungaryBreakfast... I knew what I was into from the pictures, but honestly it only sounds good while in reality though still helpful it wasn't much. To each their own of course, but you get one egg per person, some beans and pancakes, and there's a table with drinks, toast, peanut butter etc. It's better than nothing but at least for me it wasn't something enjoyable, more like a oh well I need to save money so I'm gonna eat this (I bought cheese and ham for myself, those improved the situation a lot). I had some hostel breakfasts I still think about cuz of how good they were, this isn't one of them, but maybe I just don't get the sweet breakfast thing. The state of everything is well,, below average. It's holding on, it's working, but it's barely functioning. The beds were comfy (+) but squeaky and shakey (-) storage options are terribleeee the locker u get is a metal box under ur bed, which are also occasionally broken, and there's no space for anything in the room (-). It was pretty chilly while I stayed here, so thankfully it didn't get too hot, but I imagine it must be unbearable during a heatwave. There were a lot of minor issues with my bed alone: the clear direction everyone slept in and where the pillow was laid was for some reason also the side of the bed with the stairs up (it should be the opposite, so you're not forced to see the feet of the person climbing to their bunk, especially given the lack of curtains; the other bunk was exactly right); the sockets are barely reachable - most of being tourists, also had to use an adapter, which makes your charger even bigger and longer, and i barely by some magic managed to fit it into the socket so I could actually charge my devices (the sockets are blocked/provided for the bunks), etc. The downstairs female only showed were good but mixed ones are hell I don't know how people use them...
Everyone was really nice and helpful, the atmosphere is very homey and social. For London, I guess the value is there, though there are things to improve. If I had to stay somewhere in the city again, I'd rebook if nothing better for the price category popped up. The location is pretty good, safe, and some people told me how they were really happy with it because you could reach some things like the museums on foot if you wanted to. For me, it's still pretty hard to go out far without using transport, which is true no matter where you stay (if your goal is to explore the city you simply cannot spend all your time and energy walking to the destination you wanna see even if it's technically in a walkable distance), but the hostel is located near a good metro station and right next to a bus stop, and is generally well connected so that's absolutely a plus. There are also lots of shops and food options around, which is great given how late they stay open and that you can just pop into one on your way back in the evening. Dinner was really good and big, you just need to sign up early. The only minus was the timing, as at least for me it was quite problematic to be back at 7 and I ended up skipping dinner most days in favor of exploring more. However, all the staff was really, really nice, including the lady making/serving breakfast. Rooms are fine, beds are,, serviceable. Definitely clean which is a great plus. I think the biggest improvement would be adding curtains, fixing minor issues. Generally, it's a good hostel and a solid option for London, especially if you're looking for social activities, but there's nothing to be excited about in your stay

New ZealandNot negatives, but providing info for any interested persons. The staff are positive but I must have caught a couple at a bad time. Storage space under bed was taken up by one person in the room. The room size meant I could put my bags on my half of the floorspace by the window but other bunks away from the window had less space esp with suitcases which they put next to their bunk. But the room felt safe and usual precautions mean it is fine. Key to lock the door. One person had curtain open so street lights meant the room was lit up. All depends on who you get to room with. Dinner is free but only for first 30 signed up. Got to be quick. Queues for the bathrooms in the morning, but if you shower outside peak times no problem. Generally wifi ok, but sometimes slow or intermittent esp late avo. Price is higher than other hostels but has more facilities, positive culture, clean, and free breakfast so is actually good value. I could easily come back here.
Good location and close to major museums. Nice neighbourhood. The people here are a mixture of solo travellers of all ages and couples and families. Most are travellers sharing their stories. Welcoming vibe, lots of facilities like tvs, playstation, board games, smart tv, garden space, mixed and separate abolution blocks. Breakfast was busy and free with a cook for poached egg, beans and pancakes, and self-serve nice cereals, toast and spreads. They did run out of milk. Perhaps a busier morning? They serve tea and coffee too. Plenty of lounge space and I could hang around before check-in which was good as it was pelting down at the time. Lots of charging points for plugs.

FinlandThe place would need a renovation. Many things were broken or overly used, and bathrooms very unpractical and messy. I also saw how new bedsheets were placed on dirty floor before changing and I'm sure that the cat had peed inside the house one evening.
