Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe kitchen was gross and not consistently clean, especially the crockery and inside the microwaves. I did not feel comfortable using it at all as I felt physically sick. -One of the bathroom lights on my floor didn't work, and as there's no window, only one bathroom was properly usable by guests. At multiple points they locked the doors to the shop and hostel, primarily so that the staff can pray (they're Muslim). while i have no issue with the staff's need to pray, I do have issues with them locking the door and leaving the counter unattended in the interim. they do not let guests leave in the process either, nor use other exists. especially late afternoon when multiple guests and shop customers started congregating outside the store waiting to get in (literally an hour after i arrived at around 3pm). they need multiple staff on duty, including non-Muslims, so that they can pray without disrupting things for the guests.
Location is great, the beds are really comfy, the downstairs shop is open 24 hours so you can buy corner shop food in the night if you're hungry

United KingdomThe person on the bottom bed was coughing a lot, and I had one person who turned on the fan all night. I could hear the fans all night plus another one who wanted the window open. The windows were open and the sound of the cars and building workers. Kept waking me. I was unable to get sleep because of these three reasons. This was because of the people I was with in the share 12 bed room not because of the staff or hotel. It was OK.
It was OK Bed but I need a second pillow.

IrelandThere was no toilets or showers in the basement, only from ground floor up. The room was quiet compact, 3 sets of bunk beds, very little room to move at all. Room was near darkness as very dull lighting & all the bed clothes are dark, so makes the room feel a little bit like a cave. Room has no mirrors. The hostel itself is located within a newsagents, just a little strange looking when first arriving. Also very overpriced, I made my booking 3 months ago, and yet it still cost £89, which to me is overpriced for 1 night, but was the cheapest booking I could find. I checked booking.com after I checked in, and the same room cost £36 for that same day.. So would I stay here again, no.
I arrived early, and reception allowed me check-in earlier if I was to change location of my room from first floor to basement due to it being ready.. I said ok as I was going out pretty soon to Oasis & knew I wouldn't be back till quiet late to be able to check in. Train station is right outside the hostel, only 2 minutes walk, with city also being close to walk within 10-15 minutes.

United KingdomUnfortunately, despite great customer service and a lovely common room, the hostel room itself was a shocker. Bed sheets heavily stained, and the room smelled like a combination of severe damp and 100 people who haven't had a shower in 6 months. It's a shame.
The only thing I liked in the hostel is the friendly staff and the common room upstairs. Also, the hostel is located adjacent to Piccadilly station.

United KingdomAbit outdated and could do with a revamp. Windows don't open but also don't close properly. Was fine as it's warm but wouldn't be ideal in winter. Blinds broken and couldn't close them. Wasn't an issue as I was on the second floor. Floors and walls mucky but not filthy. More like scuff marks from bags cases etc. Wasn't expecting 5 star so it didn't bother me.
Great location for what we needed. The shop below was convenient too. Beds were clean and fresh. Reception staff was lovely.

United KingdomMaintenance was just really poor. No lift for guests and some of stairs damaged. In the room itself damaged walls and floor. The window only had blinds no curtains and half the blinds were broken so you could not shut out light from outside. Lot of noise from outside and no way of opening window to ventilate hot room. The shower was covered in mould and poorly maintained. Made a horrible screeching noise when using and kept randomly cutting out to a dribble. The shower door didn’t close either so the floor got flooded. None of the lights had bulbs so that’s a major issue. Really needs to be fully renovated to be worthy of 3 stars
Location was great just opposite the train station and easy walk to town and the Ethiad. Check in quick and staff friendly. Has 24hr reception and shop. Private room was quite big.

United KingdomVery tired hostel, room was OK considering but could do with a bit of money spending on it... shower didn't work properly, no curtains, window didn't open, staff were OK once you got past having to give valid ID at check-in. It's a hostel so didn't expect much, but it took us to a new level of low expectation. Tis cheap for a reason so stay their knowing its a room with a bathroom at a very low price...

FranceThe room are not very well equipped there is not locker, no place to put my phone to sleep. There are only 2 private bathroom for all the rooms i guess? people from upper floor where coming to 1st floor to take shower here. 2 bathrooms is clearly not enough… Already in my room we were 8…. and there were 5-6 rooms on my floor. So clearly not enough. There was not bad smell in the bath room but a slightly bad smell at the entrance but nothing to bad. BREF it will not be your best stay, but probably not the worst.
I was actually scared due to the review on Booking. But it was not that bad. It was the cheapest stay in Manchester. The location is very central, I stayed only one night so it was perfect. The hostel is located up to a grocery shop. The staff was nice, thanks to this man to who i borrowed the plug adapter.
