How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe house was very very peaceful. Mac Donald's was only a 10 minute drive away. There was a reasonable sized car park.
Despite expecting a room with a bathroom, something that is very standard these days, I had to use a shared bathroom across the landing. If you look very carefully at the advert in detail, it will mention this eventually after originally suggesting a private bathroom. The breakfast only starts being served at 8am which is a bit late if you need to travel somewhere or get to work. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you have to travel down tiny windy country lanes with potholes and no street lamps. Lastly, apart from being able to drive to Mac Donald's there really isn't anything else around.

Verified reviewIt was a very peaceful setting and wonderful view of the hills. Tony is an amazing chef. We added breakfast to our day and we thought it was a generous amount of food for the money. We also had family come to dinner (an extra cost) We had salad, 2 main dishes, and a wonderful dessert.
The host seemed to be working on his own but it did not affect the service.

Verified reviewGood breakfast, but no marmalade! (essential for an English breakfast), which cost £10 extra. Wonderful breakfast room with view overlooking the countryside.
I didn't meet Maya, but presumably her husband, who had a little of the Basil Fawlty about him, but we got there in the end! No provision of evening meal, and some distance from civilisation to obtain an evening meal - I had to walk about 3 miles.

Verified reviewThe house does not look too welcoming from the outside but was nice inside with a big sitting room and winter garden for breakfast. Reception and parking was easy. We had booked a two single bed room and got a really spacious and light family room with a solid and comfortable kingsize bed and a single bed upstairs the main house. The big sofa was clean, too. The view into the countryside was stunning. Big bathroom with clean facilities like a bath tub and a good shower. It was quiet and peaceful.
The only negative thing was the very spotty and rugged white carpet in the room and in the bathroom, too. That was rather disgusting! So you better bring along your slippers. But the beautiful and quiet room weighs that out.

Verified reviewThe location was stunning. Very spacious and picturesque. The rooms were also just lovely. Breakfast was also great value for money.
One of our party had a room which was incredibly hot and didn’t have a fan; it might be an idea to have a fan in each room.

Advertising deceiving - no mention of one bathroom/toilet being shared by multiple rooms. Made it difficult in the morning having to listen for the bathroom door unlocking to dive in. All decor dated and worn. Curtains torn in multiple places. It felt dirty even if it wasn't.

Verified reviewNice location, peaceful, great breakfast, good sized room and bathroom, clear communication and directions
Was a bit dirty in places. Bathroom wasn't the best, shower pressure in particular was extremely weak. Walls were a bit thin, could hear other guests at times

Verified review- location "in the middle of nowhere" (idyllic & quiet) - beautiful interior decor - the en-suite double bedroom on the first floor at the back of the building is very spacious, bright and has the most beautiful views across the surrounding scenery - huge, comfortable lounge - big, bright conservatory at the back of the house - very yummy freshly cooked breakfast at GBP 10 extra per person - I particularly loved the host's affectionate, playful pug who did her bid to give guests a warm welcome when they arrive
- location "in the middle of nowhere" (you definitely need a car to go places) - ironic that the 3-bed family room is smaller and without any en-suite facilities while the much larger double bedroom comes with its own large bathroom. It certainly should be the other way round... - communication with the hosts proved to be a bit difficult. We did not get any replies to our texts
