How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The bedroom decor was a little tired and could do with a refresh, but not a big problem as I feel the price charged for B&B was reasonable.
Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. Shower was powerful and they provided shower gel, body lotion etc. The breakfast was excellent. Table service and all freshly prepared, including some home made/grown fruit compote.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like at this property
The staff on duty for our stay were wonderful, they were so helpful and kind, nothing was too much trouble. Great for parking, breakfast fabulous and great choices, the room was also very comfortable 😊

Room could have been a little larger for a twin configuration. Noise from exterior fans quite intrusive and operated throughout the night.
The staff are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble and made us very welcome. Breakfast and light dinners excellent.

The room was very clean and tidy with Tea making facilties in a real teapot. Extremely comprehensive breakfast menu served in a lovely large airy room. Lovely sitting room and bar area. Some of the most helpful and pleasant staff I have come accross anywhere

There wasn't anything that we didn't like, or could better.
My room was really lovely, as were the rooms of my friends who were there with me. The beds were comfortable, the rooms spacious with big windows overlooking the beautiful gardens. The bathrooms were clean with everything you needed supplied. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff we met were friendly and polite, fulfilling each request cheerfully and efficiently. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here, and look forward to returning.

No air con, the room was really hot even with the window wide open and with a fan that they did provide (which rattled and was very noisy and did not do much) the weather was exceptionally hot. Air con may not be possible in this style of hotel but investment into some higher quality more powerful (less noisy) fans would be beneficial. That is the only dislike that I could comment on. The hotel is great.
Hospitality and friendliness was excellent. The hotel was lovely, the decor, gardens etc was well maintained. A lovely setting well recommended.

It’s looking rather dated.
Beautiful property, it’s been very grand in its day. Staff, in particular Natalie, were exceptional. Great breakfast, all served at the table rather than buffet style. Our room was very tired looking but the sheets and towels were clean and the shower hot and powerful. For the money we paid, it was extremely good value for money.

Maybe slightly bigger bedroom would have been useful.
Great breakfast to set us up for each day. Tasty and simple supper at the end of the day with a glass of wine. Just what was needed on a very hot few days.

The en suite shower room in our room was a little small but other than that everything was great.
Breakfast room was amazing and the food was great . All served up in a polite and professional manner. Well impressed with everything. Will definitely stay again.

Beautiful room, spacious and comfortable. Lots of options were provided at breakfast. What we had was delicious. Staff at the Old Rectory were very accommodating, helping us carry our luggage upstairs and providing additional information as needed.

We were very satisfied with everything
Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked & the scrambled egg was delicious. We were upgraded to a lovely room as it was my husbands birthday. Natalie who was on Reception & served breakfast was lovely, very efficient & very helpful.
