How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The room was a good size, freshly decorated, comfortable and well supplied with tea/coffee making and washing products. An excellent, freshly cooked breakfast was included in the price. Well cooked and well priced evening meals were also available. The bar was open every day and there was some evening entertainment if required. An excellent location in the historic town centre just off a road, so good for access but no traffic noise. Very quiet at night. 15 minutes walk from rail station. 24 hour private access to rooms. An historic building so necessary to climb stairs. Helpful and friendly staff.

Room was in need of some maintenance. We didn't find the bed comfortable.
Great location in the Town centre. Lovely staff. Good food, we enjoyed the lively bar at the weekend. Quiet once the pub closed so no problem sleeping.

Could hear the other rooms when in room 5 especially the shower Requested a twin and a double and they said they didn't get the message from bookings.com Bread at breakfast was very thin You wouldn't seat really in your room as small and cooking smells

One bedside lamp was broken, we took it down to reception shortly after we arrived at 3pm and they said it would be repaired or replaced but we never heard anything else from them about it! It wasn’t a big deal, but a follow up would have been nice - even if just to say sorry we can’t give you a lamp tonight : ) Used my phone torch to find the loo in the night…
Good location in walking distance of the station and in the town centre. Friendly staff. Nice characterful pub. Thought we just have a separate bathroom but we didn’t- it was ensuite. Great breakfast.

The access to rooms is a bit challenging as stairs are cramped. A private but separate bathroom may not suit everyone. Breakfast coffee not very good - quite weak and a bit tasteless. Early breakfast with just an hour allocated. Also early checkout.
Great location near the excellent St Vincent restaurant. Good breakfast. Pleasant helpful staff. Payment taken on arrival. Very old building that has adapted to modern life but you can sense its history.Everything you need for a 1 night stay. Very good value.

Detailed information about parking received before arrival would have saved our struggles with the one way system, complicated by weekend road closures that do not show up on Google maps.

Breakfast,if you are veggie or vegan you don't get anything to replace what you can't have you just get a smaller breakfast.

They ask you to notify them of dietry requirements the evening before for breakfast,there is absolutely no point in doing so as you get the same as a carnivore just minus the bacon & sausage,next time(tomorrow) I'll have more toast!

Lovely place. Staff very friendly especially the lady serving breakfast. Had Sunday lunch excellent value for money. Room was a good size with a private external bathroom.

Friendly welcome from Matt, who shared some local history. Good storage for our bikes. Our evening pub meal was great, as was our excellent breakfast. Room was comfortable and quiet. Good location to town.
