How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis B&B is in a picturesque location and is a Victorian home that is very nicely decorated and cozy. We stayed in the "Woodland apartment" that sits behind the property (no view) and is located on a walk path that leads to a castle and grounds. The location is convenient with a short walk to town (10 mins). The staff were very courteous and friendly and shared the information we needed at check-in. The apartment had a nice bed upstairs (narrow stairs with an "Z" shaped curve that made carrying suitcases a bit difficult. The shower was a nice size and the water pressure was great and lots of hot water :) The kitchenette was very useful since we decided to cook one night, the refrigerator was great for storing drinks and food, perfect size for 2 people.
A few things we'd suggest to the owner: in the kitchenette a dish drainer, tea towels and kitchen roll (we went and purchased them)would be nice. In the bathroom, there is little to no space to put toiletries, although the decor is very nice the counter space is scant. There is no toilet roll holder, they are left on the back of the toilet or floor. A hook on the back of the bathroom door, (the heated towel rack is nice but does not fit 2 bath towels). Also, a hook or two next to the sink to hang hand towels would be helpful. Finally, the small TV in the living room is old and difficult to see from the couch. We were fortunate that no one was in the adding room 'till the last day of our 5 night stay since we could hear their conversation in the morning as if they were in the same room : (

Verified reviewThe house has been beautifully furnished and decorated and the location is ideal for the ferry and to walk into town. The breakfast was cooked in an open plan kitchen which was super.
Can’t think of anything really. Our room had an old styled bath which took up a lot of space in the bedroom. The shower was big so not sure why both were there. But others probably love it!

Verified reviewSimply Great! Enjoyed the welcome and kindness of the staff. Perfect room, excellent breakfast. Particularly liked the way how they run the bar, based on trust - you take the drink, list it…and pay on the check out day.

Our room was at the top of three flights of stairs and there’s no lift, but our luggage was carried to the room, which helps!

Verified reviewReally lovely decor in the lounge area and a well stocked honesty bar was a great touch. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel immediately welcome. Our room was also lovely.
My only complaint was that the pillows were a bit lacklustre.

Verified reviewThe location is perfect, right on the water and just a short walk from the centre of Oban. We were able to park our rental car right in the main lot which was really nice. From the very first greeting, all the way through check-out, we felt really cared for. I would say that No. 26 absolutely understands hospitality and the host made our time feel very special. We would highly recommend the breakfast. It was lovely to wake up and just walk down to a freshly prepared meal of our choice.
It's really hard to find something we didn't like, but if I had to say anything it would be that the room got quite hot. Now it is summer and doesn't have air conditioning, so we understand there is only so much that can be done. If you are traveling in summer, that's just something to keep in mind. There was a fan provided which helped a little.

Verified reviewBreakfast was amazing. Freshly prepared with a choice of everything you need. The best one we had in Scotland so far. Parking in front of the house. Close to the city center, 10 min walking. Rachel was very supportive.
Cleanliness was not the best. We needed to call the receptionist to clean our dirty toilet and replace missing towels.

I would recommend No. 26 without a shadow of doubt to every one looking to spend time in my new favourite town!
The room was small and did overheat.

Verified reviewWe loved the decor. Very quirky with beautiful furnishings. Quiet location with wonderful Sea Views. Great Breakfast.
Not a lot of room for clothes if staying longer than day or two. Not a lot bathroom space for toiletries. Understand space would be difficult but trying to come up with something we didn’t like is also a problem!

Verified reviewLocation was great on the esplanade with great view. Staff were so helpful & just lovely. The decor fab and colourful. Morning tray with juice & pastries very unexpected. Breakfast wonderful. It was a fabulous place to stay and would definitely stay again
The only thing was the bedroom we had was compact but the sitting room was a lovely place to relax in, so that made up for the space.

Verified reviewEverything, from the moment you enter the hotel you are served a fine glass of prosecco. There is someone who will explain anything on your stay and may even give you some great tips for your further travel. It all has the feel of a 5-star B&B with a really distinguished interior design. The showers worked will and the bed made you sleep like a baby.
I could only write something here if I am in a mood to complain.
