How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Everything we could have needed in a nicely presented, clean and spacious room. We didn't actually meet the owners, but didn't need to. Good communication beforehand and we knew how to get in touch with them if we needed to. WiFi was good and the mini fridge with real milk inside was a great touch. Location was just a ten minute walk from the centre and within a minute or two you had great views of the sea and cliffs. No breakfast option, but loads of good options in the centre at affordable prices.

Only to be fussy, this is not a complaint, bathroom isn't a wow. But it is clean and functional
Big comfy bed, easy and safe building access, car permit pass, near the beach, quiet street, lovely clean room. Great having a wee fridge and kettle with tea. Walking distance to town. Thank you!

Easy to find with plenty of parking outside, the room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. We found breakfast just a short walk away, at Emma’s Diner and Java cafe which I would recommend. The room was just like the pictures with everything you needed for your stay.

The house is beautiful, located on a quiet streer near the sea and from the room's window I could see the abbey. The room.was large, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities, including plates and silverware. The hosts have been kind and helpful whenever we needed any information.

Nothing to dislike.
We were in the gound floor flat 5 (sea view) Tastefully decorated, very clean room. The large double bed was a dream, very comfortable. Room Included tv, hairdryer, fan, clock radio, kettle, lots of tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, water and milk provided in fridge. A tub with extra glasses, plates, cutlery, tea, coffee was a thoughtfull and welcome addition. Iron and board are available if needed.( on first floor) Our ensuite bathroom was very clean, beautifully decorated, power shower, shampoo, soap, towels provided. There is a guest handbook in the room, full of invaluable info, much appreciated! All in all, a delightful place to stay. We would highly reccomend it. Free parking outside the building available, which is a godsend in Whitby! Quiet area, a bit of a walk to the center itself, but very scenic and enjoyable. Local Taxis are around £5 to get you there and back.
