Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI guess it’s showing signs of wear particularly on arrival. First impressions count!! Flaking paint… bathroom signs of age but well equipped! Loose tile on floor.
Location was great; loved the decor, staff were friendly and helpful. Responses to my complaint on my main course were dealt with quickly. Replaced with a far superior fish fillet.

United KingdomThe wardrobe in the room was far too small for two people, unless they were only staying one night (we stayed five nights). Most of it was taken up with the refrigerator. The breakfast service was variable; fine on some days, dreadful on others. On one morning there were no teapots or milk jugs. I finally received a teapot, but the milk turned up on the table in a 'bottle', delivered by a very sour-looking waitress. Perhaps our biggest problem was with an individual called DAN. He insisted upon addressing us as 'Guys' whenever we appeared for breakfast or he came to take our order. Apart from the form of salutation, his approach was fine, polite and attentive. I just did not like being addressed as 'Hey, guys'. Eventually I asked him, politely but firmly, not to address us in that way, and I offered alternatives, such as 'Good morning, gentlemen' or even my actual name (since he had it on the register with the room numbers, which were checked upon our arrival). DAN became instantly defensive, but he did apologise and thought that it was a race or a sex issue. I said we were males and had no problem whatever with our gender. However, after that DAN avoided us like the plague and whatever table we were on at subsequent breakfasts he never served us, if he was there. I just feel he could have accepted my request in a far more polite and congenial manner, and continued to serve us on an unbiased basis. I appreciate that it is the American custom, adopted in many hotels these days, to address men as 'Hey, guys', but not all of us older (British) males like it. Our fault, no doubt, being old-fashioned and traditional by nature.
The location is good, especially for walking to the main city areas & along by the river. The room was acceptable, with a view of the river through floor to ceiling windows. We had a corner room, & the other aspect of the river was through a very narrow slit window which offered virtually no view at all. The walk-in shower was fine, if a little dark (all black tiles), as there was limited lighting. The bath was deep, although the low water pressure meant it took a long time to fill up. The choices at breakfast were generally good, with a wide range of fresh fruit, cereals, nuts & dried fruit. Limited choice of fruit juices & yoghurts. The various types of bread were limited as well; just two choices. The selection for the cooked breakfast (to order - so much better than a buffet) was extensive, with some very good options that could be 'mixed and matched'. The cooked breakfast always arrived promptly. We dined at the hotel on two evenings, once on our own & once with two friends as our guests. The food was very good, well cooked, plentiful & nicely presented. The evening service for dinner was fine, not so the breakfast (see below). The staff were mostly very helpful & polite. In particular: IVANA at breakfast was always cheerful & eager to ensure we had everything we needed. This offset the otherwise unacceptable service at breakfast on some days (see below). On the evening we entertained our guests to dinner, MICHAEL was very good & organised a table that was not too close to a loud & large party that was occupying most of the dining-room. On the earlier evening when we dined alone, MICHAEL also found us a nicer table after the one we reserved the previous day had been given to other guests, through some unexplained oversight. At Reception, SUSIE & the Reception Team were constantly helping to answer questions & queries in a polite & patient manner.

Extremely modern and exceptionally clean with staff continually to do so throughout the stay, plumping up cushions and ensuring comfortable. Bar staff very friendly and welcoming. You only had to say your room number once and all remembered so excellent attention to detail. I travel with my border collie Gwen and as ever Malmaison is an excellent place to stay with a pet. Excellent location on the docks. There was a slight issue with final payment, but Paige from Accounts resolved this post stay in a timely and efficient manner.
