Amazing views and location. Staff pleasant, friendly, helpful.

Room twice not serviced properly while we were out. Bed just pulled up not properly made and bathroom not cleaned. Second day door left’ on the latch’ ie open! Bed very hard. Should not have to pay for some breakfast items as extra.

The staff were all very cheerful, friendly and helpful. The grounds and the view from the hotel was lovely.

It felt very tired and in need of some TLC Our room smelt quite musty and felt dark.

    The garden

The room given is without a view. I asked the receptionist if there is another room or upgrade and she said theres none. But I saw in booking.com there are still 4 rooms. Not very helpful. Very cold receptionist, not even smiling . The chandelier in the room is a hazard. Any 5 footer will hit his head. I twice hit my head. Even their house cat all of a sudden scratched my leg with me just standing and doing nothing. The hotel is pricey. Even the food is very stingy. Not worth the money.

    The location and views

Everything else. The staff weren’t the friendliest, only the ginger lady who served us lunch was so lovely and helpful. Someone knocked on our door at 11;30pm for NO reason and we even had a do not disturb sign on. The toilets were not clean there was hair all over the tiles the floor. I appreciate the fact that this is an old building but do better. This isn’t even a 4* I would say 3*. Besides the view I honestly did not enjoy my stay. I didn’t even use the bath u waited until I got back home to take a shower:

Location , parking and views .

For £380 pounds per night what a mess . One of our guests had to clean her toilet and empty the bins as it hadn’t been cleaned correctly and there was no one to clean it . In major need of some tender loving care . At breakfast if you didn’t have a full English breakfast everything was a supplement.

The view from the room was amazing, it was so comfortable and relaxing. The breakfast was great, plenty of options. The dinner menu covered all options and the standard of the food was even better than on previous visits - nothing to fault!

It's not a "didn't you like" but not sure that the supplements on the breakfast options is appropriate.

    Breakfast was OK

There was a very poor bar with limited drinks and the bar staff appeared not to care or know what he was doing. It appeared he had not been trained. I had specifically asked for an enhanced room, which I paid £45 for when I arrived. However, the room was not upgraded and I was reimbursed £20. The basin in the bathroom was chipped and dirty. This was a huge disappointment to a hotel which I thought would bring back many happy memories, but in order to find those we ate out at the Ullswater Inn which was excellent

The location and ease of getting there. The view was awesome. The large garden which goes all the way down to the lake. The bar and restuarant staff. The fact we could take our dogs.

The hotel is quite old and tired and this is noticeable. One of the reception staff knew nothing about the area - when I asked for recommendations where to go he said “the lake”. He then admitted that he didn’t know the area. He was even unable to point to any leaflets or a map.

The positives of this hotel are truly exceptional. The views from the property are nothing short of amazing, providing a breath taking backdrop to our stay. The location is great, perfectly situated for exploring the beautiful Lake District. The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with a smile. Stepping into the hotel, I genuinely felt like I was living in the Regency era in England, a truly unique and enchanting experience. The breakfast options were good yet simple, providing a pleasant start to each day.

Some of the newer staff members seemed a little unexperienced in the art of service, which occasionally led to minor inconveniences. More concerning was the cleanliness of the rooms. My pillow had what appeared to be blood or lipstick on it, and the toilets regrettably had a persistent stink of urine. Furthermore, toiletries were not consistently replenished when used, which was a minor but noticeable oversight. The lunch service was also a disappointment; it felt like a bunch of items pulled straight out of a freezer rather than freshly prepared dishes. Lastly, there was no way of contacting staff from the room apart from physically going to reception, which felt inconvenient in a hotel of this calibre. Considering all these points, the stay felt slightly expensive for what we were getting.
