Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandApparently the hotel is going to close in a few weeks for refurbishment. The staff told us about this . The wine list was depleted and the hotel is very faded. The pool are was very worn down and not very clean! Hopefully when it is refurbished it will be great.

United KingdomDifficult to find, my sat nav got very confused taking us to closed gated locations due to half the estate now being in private hands. The absence of certain little things stops the experience from being an excellent one.
The hotel, spa and grounds were lovely.

United KingdomThe hotel is closing next month for refurbishment. It does need updating but that did not detract from our stay.
The room was huge with everything we needed including functioning air conditioning. There was a patio area with a table and chairs. The bed was large and comfortable . We had read some terrible reviews but we enjoyed our stay. The staff were attentive and friendly, the grounds were lovely and the pool was large and clean.

United KingdomOur room was in the lower parkland floor but as you walked through the corridors it smelt really stale. The bathroom taps had problems too. I had to ask twice for fresh milk (same as last time). I know the hotel is being refurbished soon. Hopefully they won’t over price the rooms when it’s finished.
Comfy bed, nice room location, lovely gardens. Spa was nice but awaiting a revamp. Breakfast was really good, good choice, staff polite.

United KingdomI wanted a bath but felt like I couldn’t because the plug hole was very rusty. I know it is an old bath but I would have preferred to have a bath I could use than one that is 100 years old. The hotel is in need of repairs but I understand that this is planned, wallpaper was peeling off my bathroom walls and the communal rooms needed attention. It is still an amazing property and I would be back
Bed extremely comfortable, room was amazing, view was great and breakfast delicious

United KingdomThe hot water took a while to come through. Would have pefered bigger bottles of water in the room, maybe in glass bottles.
The formal gardens were immaculate. We stayed in a master bedroom which was bigger than expected and decorated wonderfully. Lots of comfort and a lovely view. The building and interiors were amazing, with so much grandure.

AustriaLocation wise, it was very convenient for me because it's a 10 minute cab ride from the train station (with a direct link into King's Cross) and a 10 minute cab ride from the office of my company. It may not be the most convenient for business travel otherwise. The hotel is in a good condition but it could do with a refresh of carpets. They have decided to do a major refurbishment starting this autumn.
The Luton Hoo is a gem of a mansion house hotel with luxurious, magical and authentic period interiors. The grounds are large, lush and filled with beautiful wildlife (deer, pheasants, birds) - it's an absolute delight to take a long walk at any time of day. Overall, this is a remarkable venue and I highly recommend it. Perhaps the best place to stay in Bedfordshire.

United KingdomOur room was supposed to be a "garden view "room but was a leaf strewn patio with a table and 2 chairs per room but definitely no view. The staff in general in the bar and restaurant areas seemed under-trained with slow service and repeated requests for things asked for.

United KingdomOnline booking system which they asked you to use to book a table for dinner suggested you can only have table for 1.5 hours. We stayed midweek which was not busy and this restriction was not needed and the restriction if needed should only apply at busy times.

United KingdomThe property is in the process of being closed down for renovation, at no point prior to arriving at the hotel were we told this. The golf club was closed, this wasn’t a problem for us, as we’re not golfers, but was unable to use the associated club house. There was a clear lack of staff, as many of them had already left to find new jobs, this left the remaining staff under pressure, at one point in the evening we were told we couldn’t have drinks outside on the terrace, because they’d closed the doors, and weren’t serving drinks outside . This was the second time of staying at this hotel, and unfortunately not a great experience .
The building, it was a stately home in the past, and still has many elements of still being a stately home, the grounds are extensive, and the hotels location is superb
