Dated and in need of improvements - peeling paint and damage to ceilings. Too hot in the room at night - could do with a ceiling fan. Mattress needs replacing - did not provide even support. Bar had very poor selection of drinks and a little too dark - could do with more working lights. A little expensive for what it was.

Good location. Big room. Clean bedding. Was probably nice in its day. Suited our needs. Food in restaurant was nice. Although dated, the decor goes with the location - just needs to be fixed up / painted / new fixtures and fittings etc.

The room was so dated! Badly needed upgrade. Mouldy smell did nothing to help. Breakfast was basic served in a dull room. Worst hotel I have stayed in for a long time, value for money is terrible.

The bathroom tub was dirty, with stains ( probably had to remove), and the shower curtains had stains. The throw on my bed had stains (looked like blood).

Staff was ok, approachable, and nice. Dinning was neat, and breakfast was really good with lovely different stuff to choose from.

Unfortunatly, there's barely been any upgrading for decades, the whole place is very dated and feels unclean. We had the luck of staying in the older part of the building, but the newer extension (probably from the 70ies) just looked grim even from the outside. For the older part, the carpet floor is probably the worst part of it, in the lounge the glasses and the furnishing were not clean either. Overall the whole place has potential but is in dire need of renovation. Personally, I would not stay again, especially for the price paid.

The location is great. The older part of the building definitely has historic charm. Back in the day, someone had created a lovely Lodge with charming interior.

The reception staff wasn't the friendliest, and seemed rude. The bed was uncomfortable you could feel the springs throughout the night when moving and made alot of noise. We had room 3

We liked the location, and the older Gentleman in the bar last night was really polite.

Very run down and in need of update. Facilities not adequate for our needs, e.g. Bar limited opening hours and range of beverages. Lovely building but management not made the most of it.

Food very nice but pricey. Location was ok.

The room we had was spacious but very dated, in desperate need of redecorating. The small step into the bathroom is a trip hazard. Disposable cups for hot drinks, no coffee sachets, but oddly 2 kettles The evening menu was expensive and offered only one vegetarian option. Bar prices eye watering £15 for a glass of wine and a diet Coke. No beer on tap.

The communal downstairs areas are really nice, although the tartan and wooden panels are overwhelming

Very very cold at night - time of year and season just starting up. Small portable heaters for rooms weren’t very effective - no central heating in rooms we were in.

Lovely central location. Fantastic onsite bar and restaurant with great food. The staff were lovely. Showers were fantastic.

Room are comfortable but outdated. Do need a deep clean. Tv hardly worked. WiFi is absolutely rubbish. The bar looks great but the drink selection is very poor with no draft beers and extortionate prices. Didn’t stay for breakfast as just wanted to leave and continue our journey. We booked a superior double room. It wasn’t. There wasn’t even a chair to sit on which we had to take one from the landing

Play New rugby hot water cold water didn’t work upon being fixed for several months so it was over a very cold or scolding hot. It wasn’t only our room. It was my daughter‘s room as well and other people’s room managing offered us a discount saying she knew about it But this should’ve been discussed before as we wanted to have a shower and couldn’t have one. She says it’s down to the mixes and that they’re fixing it, but the phone it’s been six months so no excuse

Restaurant / bar was closed. Suite was very dated- needed a refurb. Shower mixer didn’t work- either scalding hot or freezing. Sink taps were the wrong way round- I.e. hot water coming out of the cold tap.

The shower was dangerous. Not only was it badly lit, but the water temperature repeatedly swung from icy to scalding.

The staff were great. The rooms don't have refrigerators, and we needed to refrigerate my wife's medication. They immediately arranged to bring a refrigerator to our room.
