How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice setting
Staff showed little interest, and they appeared as they really didn't want to be there. Breakfast was terrible handed a glass of juice as you went through door told where you must sit. Breakfast was so basic, and I had to ask 3 times to get toast when it came it was cold and cheapest bread you could get.

Verified reviewBeautiful old building at a fantastic location
The food was really bad, wouldn't eat there again! And it is a really old-fashioned hotel, fun but be prepared.

Verified reviewThe location and the hotel itself was absolutely amazing, it's beautiful. The staff were all very friendly and made use feel very welcome.
My only complaint came from meal times. Every room had their own assigned table in the restaurant, you couldn't choose where you wanted to sit. After being seated for breakfast we must have been asked by about 6 different staff if our order had been taken, it seems that there was no communication between them. When breakfast arrived, the portion was tiny, 1 sausage 1 piece of bacon. When we asked for more the answer was "I'll see if we can do that" before returning from the kitchen with a 2 extra sausages. It almost felt like food is scarce and they give as a little as possible.

Verified reviewThe dining room staff were very friendly and well-trained, and the menu was very good. The shower facilities were excellent.
No lift, and a long way to walk between bedroom and dining room.

Verified reviewSpotless clean - loads of room around hotel for quiet time. Superb views A young staff team make this hotel. They are superbly trained all look spotless in uniforms great personalities and Engage with all guests. Food value is excellent - we did a self drive holiday and this is a coach holiday hotel but we were given the same experience with great service. Your team - all staff including room cleaning teams represent you very well. No request here is too big or too small the staff are very accommodating. Beautiful views and places to visit near.

Verified reviewIt was scenic stay perhaps one of the best.
The breakfast slots are fixed to 45 minutes and decided by staff which is quite silly.

Verified reviewLocation is stunning.
Hotel is very tired and dated internally, although it was clean. Staff are predominantly English and not very interested. Breakfast was absolutely awful. Asked to wait in the lounge area to be called while the bus trips were served (we were never called) Eventually we went through and seated ourselves. Sat for 15 minutes before anyone came near and were then served cold toast. Waited another 10 mins before anywhere came near to ask for tea. We eventually were asked what we wanted for breakfast and both opted for scrambled eggs on toast. It came out 10 minutes later with cold toast and scrambled egg which looked like it was cut into chunks and was inedible. By that point we had had enough, got up and left and checked out. We won't be back!

Verified reviewLocation
Check-in 4pm sharp. No food and bar closed until 7pm, Dictated what time you can have dinner. No Scottish breakfast, set breakfast food very basic, no haggis, black pudding, Mushrooms or potato scones. This hotel caters specifically for OAP bus tours. Couldn't sleep due to buzzing noise all night, twin beds awful, with bedding that smelt like it had already been used. Staff swearing within earshot, not professional. Checking out, wasn't even asked how things were. Not worth the money.

Room was too warm. Even w windows open. Noise from work on railroad tracks nearby and flies coming in caused us to close the windows. Need a/c.

Verified reviewBeautiful building. Fantastic views. Great pub across the road if you don't want to eat at the hotel.
This hotel is mainly for coach tours so other guests are given dinner and breakfast times outside of when the restaurant is needed for the groups. No choice of different teas at breakfast. Felt a bit like part of a conveyor belt.

Verified reviewThe building and the location are wonderful.
The hotel is set-up to cater for coach parties, eg:- Dinner was served at 19:30, no choice of times. The 3-course dinner menu was very limited, but at £17.50 it did represent value for money. Breakfast was at 07:30 - 08:15, too early for us. Checkout was at 10:00, again, too early for us. We paid £140 for the room and, at that price, we expected more flexibility.

Verified reviewBreakfast was very good. Staff were attentive and well mannered.
The parking facilities could have been better. I had to use the overspill car park on each of the 3 nights and there were only 3 spaces there. On my 2nd night after returning quite late there were no spaces available. I had to pull into the side and hope I would be ok there..
