How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Very noisy. There was a boiler behind the toilet wall and every few minutes it turned on and made it very difficult to sleep.
Bed comfortable. Friendly staff. Good location. Pretty clean.

Could do with a bigger tv positioned on the wall
For the price we paid it was a great place to stay, bit far out but we used taxis, still worked out a cheap weekend

Warm, friendly, welcoming staff, explained everything including bus/taxi into town. Walking distance to the city center about a mile and a half. Advised and had discount vouchers for restaurants in the city. On site parking for a fee but reasonable. Comfortable Bed, large room with tea and coffee making facilities. Continental Breakfast extra.

It states free parking on booking.com but it is £15. It says good breakfast but help your self in the kitchen.

Self-service breakfast, really was a diy effort... Cook you're own and wash up after.... The guesthouse is in ownership transition and it was ridiculously cheap for the night... special deal £61 for 2 adults including the DIY brekkie
Great room with a lovely bathroom. Comfy bed in a perfect location. Only 3/4 stops on the bus to the city centre.... late night £8 taxi back....

too much furniture and badly laid out (did stay in a family room) bathroom could do with updating, shower door broken & can hear literally everything from upstairs bathroom (especially when they were up for breakfast at 7am on a saturday) only complaint is that the heating was on sooo high/hot it was unbearable, could have done with a lower temperature especially at night!
bed was so comfy! room and area was very clean, entrance and front rooms were beautifully decorated too

The pillows were a little too lumpy so I didn't sleep well but that's easy to solve and one of the bedside lamps wasn't working.
The location for the York Barbican was perfect and the room on the ground floor was spacious and comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

The beds were not that comfortable.
The hosts were very friendly and the breakfast they served was fabulous. The location was good, just a bus ride away from central York. I liked the quaintness of the place.

The furniture was dated and the wash hand basin was inconveniently situated in the bedroom next to the door leading to the showeroom and toilet. The radiators were controlled by the host and the heated towel rail did not work at all. The TV was very small and whilst the host had been told previously that the remote was not working this had no been replaced and it was therefore difficult to operate.
The bedroom was a good size, nicely decorated and although on a main road it was quiet. It was convenient in terms of location and there was ample car parking.
