That you needed to cross the roud withought pavement and it felt not safe

Breakfast was ok, we loved everything. they even brought us fan, as the one in our room didn't work. The room was quiet and there was a lot of space.

Our stay at the hotel was spoiled by the amount of dogs there. There was always at least one barking and they were getting under your feet. There was a very small dog free area in one corner and people with dogs had the rest of the hotel to sit. It should be the other way round. I dropped my phone on the floor and when I picked it up it was covered in dog hair.

A few things to improve: Online check in is a waste of time. We filled everything in only to be told that we still had to check in across the road at the pub. Many people travel with their dogs. In a morning dogs need to poop! However there are no bins so it seems most people leave their parcels in the car park - not a great look for the hotel…. The nearest bin is across the busy main road and opposite the pub on the waterfront. Crossing the main road between the lodge and the pub can be challenging at busy times, so be careful! And finally, there was a feral cat hiding under some of the parked cars that attacked one of our dogs. If it’s owned by the hotel/housekeeper it needs sorting out!

All the staff were excellent, very helpful on arrival. Breakfast is self service, good quality and plenty of it. They offer a very good initiative whereby if you forego your room being cleaned they will give each couple a free drink. This cuts down on washing/waste.

A bit of confusion at check in as the check in was not at the property itself but at the restaurant across the road. Not much of an inconvenience but took me a bit of time to figure this out.

Great location, close to the lake. The breakfast was nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The parking at the property was a bonus

The room was only cleaned and made up on 2 days although Id requested it on 3 days. The steps down from the Lakehouse were rather perilous in the severe rainy weather and hard not to slip on the stoney steep path. Also the exit from the Lakehouse garden exited straight onto a busy road with no pavement. A safer path and exit would be desirable. The option to have another single bed in my daughters room would have been desirable with the 2 children

Breakfast was excellent, Room was very good shower hot, bed very comfortable had a great nights sleep big mirror. The location was superb with a great view outside and near buses and Windermere ferries. all staff were very helpful.

The staff at the Waterhead Inn were rather grumpy on a couple of occasions when we were dining/ordering from the bar. A shame, as otherwise a lovely stay.

We weren’t informed earlier that two separate rooms are being booked for a small family of four. One of the rooms was smelly and we had to stay in one room. So we paid rent of two rooms while using only one. Hotel is made up of some houses and it’s difficult to find the room. There’s no staff available to guide. To check-in or check-out or to ask for any help, we need to visit the bar by crossing a couple of roads which isn’t super feasible. There’s not enough guidance about these things so we had to ask few people around just to find the reception/bar. Hotel staff didn’t reply to the query asked days before the stay on booking.com app.

Great location, close to lake Windermere. Parking available at hotel.

Minor issue - Towels did not get charged during our four night stay - We collected them our self, other than that, we will return again!

The location was fantastic. We loved the walk to breakfast every morning, gorgeous gardens, and well maintained. The Annex where we stayed was amazing. Breakfast was one of the best we have had so far. We recommend staying here. We will be returning. Thank you 🥰

Our room was too hot as the towel rack was always on that it couldn’t be switched off. Also the exhaust fan in the bathroom was not working.

The location is perfect for easy access to restaurants and the surrounding is not too noise. Our family room is quiet with beautiful garden and lake views. The staff at the breakfast are very nice and helpful. Strongly recommend if you choose to stay at Amberside.

The bathroom in our downstairs room was nice but it looked like it wasn’t finished as it had no shelving at all and no storage to put any of your belongings. We ended up with it all on the floor and resting it on top of the toilet. We found the access up the narrow, steep drive pretty tight going, obviously difficult to change this. Once at the top the parking situation was ok if you managed to get a space at the front of the property. If you didn’t and had to attempt parking at the rear of the house you had to be Stirling Moss to reverse out if there were no spaces. Parking situation not great as it was all very tight going. Still a fantastic old property though and didn’t detract from an enjoyable stay.

Classy, beautiful furnishings and colour scheme throughout.

    1. Food was ok, nothing special, but breakfast choices and quality very good. Lunch sandwiches were limited in choices, and watery 'gravy" under a sliced turkey filled roll just did not work. Soggy and tasteless. It also needed a flavour boost as it was bland to eat. 2. An older couple given a room on the 2nd floor of the accommodation house up the steep narrow incline. With no lift, we both needed oxygen by the time we walked up to our room door! Our poor fitness levels maybe, but we are in our late 60's and decided not to make a fuss because the room was first class.

Location, building, room condition & cleanliness, excellent mattress, friendly staff, breakfasts, service standards throughout.
