Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomView of the car park one side not so good, and the place felt rather "corridor like". However we would recommend it as very well presented.
Host was very helpful. Place was very clean and tidy. Nice decor, and lovely view one side of the property out towards the hills. Great having the pub next door - food was excellent. Maps and guides left for us to read a very nice touch. Pretty, well kept village. Great stay.

United KingdomEnjoyed our two night stay and had a delicious dinner at the pub which had a friendly, local atmosphere. Not noisy in the rooms we were in at all. Lovely village. Went to Lanercost Priory and Talkin Tarn on the day we had there. Recommend.

United KingdomQuirky lay out, If you’re sleeping in the front bedroom/ lounge you have to go through the second bedroom and kitchen to get to the loo. It wasn’t a problem for me and my daughter but could be for some guests.
Lovely location. Comfortable clean accommodation. Attached to The Pheasant pub which serves very good food.

United KingdomNot really a 2-bedroom apt. - one bed in the lounge and access to the kitchen and bathroom through the second bedroom. No bath mat, so bathroom floor got quite wet.
Quiet, scenic location and comfortable beds. Much appreciated the tea/coffee and breakfast supplies.

Kitty's place was a very clean comfortable , spacious apartment equipped with everything to make it home from home. Despite being attached to the pub it was still very quiet and peaceful day and night. A lovely start to our holiday and a place to be recommended.

United KingdomNot the fault of the venue, but I'm 6'4" and the apartment is a converted attic space in parts, which meant I kept banging my head despite warning notifications at every door! So if you are tall you may need to consider this.
The place was immaculate and a larger apartment than I thought it would be. The pub was nice and the people were friendly and welcoming. The locals of the area were very friendly and we will definitely be back.

United KingdomThe apartment didn’t have a cooker which is a shame as it’s a very expensive area to eat, obviously being in the country side we know what to expect so made do, there seemed to be a staff room on the same corridor as the apartment which staff would talk very loudly especially in the morning which woke us up, the bar can be heard in the toilet but not in any of the bedroom and seemed to settle at a reasonable time anyway so no complaints from the bar.
Comfortable and warm, very clean and the provided cereals, milk and juice was an excellent touch.

United KingdomUnfortunately there is a very noisy and intrusive extractor fan under the floor of the smaller bedroom. It is on a timer and goes off around 2200. This was running even though the pub below was closed for two days. Such a shame as this spoiled the peace and quiet of such a lovely location and potentially amazing rooms.
Our host was very communicative and the apartment was lovely and clean, some goodies were left for our comfort. Breakfast cereals, fruit juice, tea and coffee. The location is lovely, sadly the pub was closed during our stay but we found another open not far away.

AustraliaThe downstairs inn was open on the night we stayed and we had a wonderful meal in a typical small country pub…the rental we stayed in was Kitty’s Place’ and it was quirky and in the morning, we were greeted with a herd of cows outside our bedroom windows. Lovely start to the day!

Location off the A! was ideal for an overnight stay on our way back from a holiday in Scotland - we stayed on the way up as well. Facilities were excellent for what we were looking for but might be considered 'limited' for a longer stay. Having the pub below the apartment was good but you need to check The Pheasant's website because the restaurant is not open every day. It was open when we stayed and our meals were excellent.
