How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe asked for a sea view and that is what we got. Large bay window overlooking the town & harbour. On arrival the keys were easy to access, and a complimentary bottle of wine was at our door. There were two whisky glasses inside the room alongside a small amount of complimentary whisky, set up on a small table by the window. We found the lady who cleaned the rooms very amenable & pleasant, and she kindly replaced our towels as needed.
Although there were two perspex cups adjacent to a coffee machine, there were no glasses available for the complimentary wine, not was there crockery or cutlery. There was one large armchair to sit on (inadequate for two guests at the same time!). There was no welcoming literature in the room, and nothing to explain, for example, where the TV might be (hint: it was concealed within the foot of the bed, operated remotely). The "wardrobe" provided was little more than a couple of planks of chipboard, screwed poorly into a wall in the corner of the room to provide a shelf & hanging space. There was no toilet roll holder in the bathroom. There was no sign of the owners or management, apart from an occasional glimpse of people staring at us out of a downstairs room as we walked by. With two large suitcases with us (we had travelled from Australia), the room became rather cramped for space.

Verified reviewIf you are looking for accommodation in Oban then I would definitely recommend Kenvara House. This is a short walk up the hill, has parking available, a straightforward self check-in, and comfortable, clean rooms. .
A slight downside is no breakfast - with that in mind this could be slightly better value for money and a slightly later check out to enable you to get breakfast then check out. That said, we have now stayed there twice as we know what we are getting!

Verified reviewWe stayed for one night as last minute extended stay in Oban, the room was beautiful, spacious and small touches by the owners that never went unnoticed. The decking has great views of oban and the property was very well maintained, very friendly staff. Would highly recommend and hopefully be back next visit. Well done and thank you to the owners for making it a lovely experience.

Verified reviewLoved the location, 5 min walk to town centre. Facilities and views were amazing.
10am checkout was tight as we had to go into town for breakfast. We managed fine though. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Verified reviewI honestly can’t rate this place highly enough. We had 3 rooms for my dad’s 70th and all were absolutely perfect. Spotless clean and stunningly designed. The views the central location. Just wow. Wine and whisky in the rooms were a lovely touch. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. Thanks. Sharon
Not a thing. Everything was perfect.

Verified reviewWinding our way up the hill, passing the beautiful properties surrounding it, we were not disappointed when we reached Kenavara. It is a traditional house from the outside with a small on-site parking area to the front of the property. Stepping inside was delightful, a well-decorated hallway and it smelt lovely! Check-in is a modern affair as there's no reception as such, but it was all very easy to do. Then up the stairs, through the door to our room - and WOW! A huge room, beautifully and very stylishly decorated, with the most spectacular views overlooking Oban, the sea and Mull beyond - absolutely breath-taking. As we sat on the beautiful blue velvet Chesterfield sofa, gazing out over the view and watching the Calmac ferries and sailing boats sweeping quietly and majestically by in the bay, we enjoyed a wee dram from the complimentary drinks trolley - with water and a bottle of wine also provided in the fridge, which was very unexpected but a most thoughtful and welcome gesture! The bathroom was again exceptionally stylish and had everything we needed. And all absolutely spotlessly clean. It is a room-only establishment, but it is only a few, pleasant minutes to walk to the centre of town where there are plenty of choices of restaurants to be had. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and thoroughly recommend Kenavara to you.

Verified reviewGood sized room, very comfortable bed. Good communication from the owners.
It was odd having a contactless check-in, not sure if I like that, although it was perfectly smooth.

Verified reviewPerhaps the option of breakfast in house, as it was a little difficult to find somewhere that was in easy walking distance from the house that wasn't fully booked.
