How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

There is some small maintenence that needs to be done like toilet seat , the bin lid was broken .. nothing big , but some taking care of will make it rating better.
Accommodation is a very good price comparing to my others in my week in Scotland. The bed was quite comfortable and clean .. They also provided us with coffee and a biscuit.

The street noise (take a headset if you are a light sleeper) and the tea and coffee was great but a teaspoon would be even better!
Great location, decent facilities and super clean. Great value for money and I would stay again.

I will definitely use it again when in Aberdeen. Firstly, I want to thank the young man from the hotel, who gave me directions over the phone, and met me in the street, he then allowed me to check in really early, I'm so grateful, thank you The room was large, a big window, bed comfy, and the shower was the best water pressure ever. Once shown the shortcuts it's a great location for shops, trains etc. Excellent value for money, two nights was much cheaper than one anywhere on my travels. Thank you all at The Jewel Guest House. I'll be back.

TBH everything was ok, no faults. I could mention there was no spoon for the tea/coffee (oh no, I just did 😂 ) but that could just have been an oversight

Room was an attic so very hard for one of us to get to that side of the bed. The neighbourhood was a bit dodgy since one of them started burning garden waste after 11pm. No hairdryer. No clear checkout instructions about towels.
Bed was comfortable, everything was very clean. Shower was excellent. Wifi was very strong.

The room was spacious and clean. It appears that the guest house has been recently fully renovated. The shower room toilet was particularly modern.

The shower needs re siliconing as it is discoloured with a bit of mold. The seals on the double glazing have gone so the windows are foggy. Road is noisy up til about 11.30 pm.
Great location, lovely and clean and as photos show so you get what you see. Overall a good stay in presentable but basic accommodation.

Outside of building looks doubtful but phoned number on the door and bloke from Indian restaurant came and opened up immediately. Busy road and we had to open the window as it was too hot ( unusual for Aberdeen)
Very clean , modern and comfortable room. Literally 5 minutes from Union Square Station and centre which has excellent shops and restaurants if you cut through Union Square car park. From the station follow car park signage . From Crown Street go down Affleck Street and look for car park . Excellent value for money. Room only but plenty of places for breakfast close by.

The bed was comfy enough but the mattress could be better. A cloths rack would be good.
Smooth, easy check-in and out. 24 hour access, nice room and en-suite. When you shut the window, the room is quiet.

Took them a while to respond to my messages, but were very helpful once they did. Window in downstairs room still needs blinds (in June the sun rises at 4.30am!) I propped some of the cushions and pillows up, which worked. Bed a bit soft, but I’m aware I do like an unusually firm bed. I’d trade the television for a bedside reading light too.
Fairly quiet side street, very central, convenient for Union Sq, very clean, bathroom nice and modern. 11am checkout means no morning rush. Owners also run a very nice Indian restaurant just across the street.

Room was really hot so had to sleep with window open. This made it noisy and it let the light in so didn't sleep very well.
