Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomProperty is located down a single track road which was really difficult to navigate. Our bedroom was very small, so no bedside table to the right hand side. There were no hooks in bedroom for coats. Everything I had was in bags all over the floor, apart from a few items in wardrobe, and not enough room for my husband to get to wardrobe. The duvet was far too heavy and thick for August. There were also no hooks for towels next to shower which was annoying, although bathroom was a good size.
Location and grounds were lovely with beautiful views over surrounding countryside. Although there was a bedroom, there were other rooms to sit in downstairs and also access to the bar and restaurant. Lots of activities including swimming, tennis and various types of golf.

United KingdomI think there should be a couple of hours dedicated to adults only in the swimming room area. When you’re trying to relax in the steam, sauna etc all you can hear is the kids scream. Isn’t really relaxing
Beautiful surroundings. A little gem in the middle of north Devon.

United KingdomThe food in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, The staff don't seem to be able to cope with the number of diners present We had to wait 45mins to get our cooked breakfast and when it came the orders were incorrect. The bacon was like leather and tomatoes/black pudding overcooked. Evening meals were acceptable' although again took a long time to be served ! On top of this they charge a 12andhalf % service charge for the evening meals !
Located in the Manor house our room was tastefully decorated and larger than expected with superb countryside views . The bed was huge and very comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was very good with a powerful shower, Cleanliness was very good.

United KingdomVery little! The only issue was their App which caused a few problems with bookings. Some time tables were incorrect too for some exercise classes.
We stayed in the Manor House in the Manor Deluxe room for 3 nights. It was very bright & spacious with a traditional feel. Great views and spottlessly clean too. It was really quiet, perfect for access to the bar and restaurant which was on a lower level. We took our dog, and we found it to be super dog friendly. They even provided a dog pack in our room, which was a really lovely touch. There was also a restaurant that catered for dog owners, which made life really easy for us. The food was tasty and great value. We had breakfast included with our room and enjoyed 2 evening meals in the cellar restaurant. The 3rd night we enjoyed a lovely meal at the Exeter Inn which was just outside the resort, we would highly recommend too ! Amazing facilities for all ages.

United KingdomQueing for check in in the activity 'Hub' felt a bit like a holiday park mistake I made years ago, and if you only go for one night, check-in is too late to use the outdoor pool (closes at 4pm) and a very short window to make use of the indoor spa facilities. (We arrived tired and my husband collapsed in the room for a nap, and I scuttled over to the spa and managed to get some time in the hot tub, which was great), The pool was busy with children when I arrived, but cleared closer to closing time so I had a swim as well. The sauna and steam room were busy. I skirted the changing rooms coming in my swimsuit, as I'd read bad reviews online - it seemed basic, but didn't look too bad in my brief passing through.
Peaceful location with beautiful views. Balcony in a spacious room. Comfortable bed. Good views from restaurant. Friendly staff. Layed back atmosphere. Potential to use range of activity facilities if you have the time or inclination. We didn't stay in one of the newer lodges as we were just there for one night, but could see they were very thoughtfully done. From the reviews I was concerned our room would be dirty and dingy. It was clearly older style and well-used, but clean and comfortable and simply/tastefully decorated. Even in August with it fully booked and lots of families, it was a relaxed and peaceful environment. I enjoyed a little time in the hot tub and pool before it closed at 6pm. Food in the restaurant is good simple meals - fine if you're not expecting anything fancy. We appreciated that the cooked breakfast (English breakfast options) was freshly cooked to order (not under-heatlamp buffet)- with good selection of toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit, pastries, etc. to choose from too.

United KingdomWe stayed in one of the Manor House junior suites. It was very clean except for some of the carpets on the stairs & parts of the suite. Looking around it looks like there has been a lot of investment in the lodges possibly at the expense of the manor house which looks a bit dated. The bathroom shower was very low pressure and very old and needs replacing as does the dated cubicle. Overall we did enjoy our stay but would love to return once the manor house has had a little TLC. We had read previous reviews so new some of these things could be an issue depending on what room we had.
Great location, very peaceful despite going in the middle of the school summer holidays. Staff were all very helpful and always happy to help.

United KingdomThe exterior of the Manor House could do with a face lift, window sills were in a dreadful state, which made it look tired. The lounge areas weren't particularly clean, as there were dead flies and cobwebs around. We arrived around 5pm and were told that the outdoor pool had closed at 4pm and that the indoor pool closed at 6pm, which left no time at all really for us to use the facilities. Both closing times seemed very early, considering that it is the height of the season and the weather is brilliant.
We last stayed at the hotel about 9-10 years ago and we unaware of the changes that had taken place in the meantime. The venue is now very much focused on being a family activity centre, which was unexpected but not a disaster. Our room was in the Manor House, which was much the same as previous and had still retained its former charm and elegance. Our room was lovely, clean and quiet. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was very good, nicely presented and the breakfast was 1st rate. The grounds were well looked after and tidy. Nice to walk around. There is a lovely, relaxing atmosphere up by the Manor House, down by the Hub was of course noisy and manic, which is mainly where the families hung out, so we had no need to go there.

United KingdomHaving flies in the bathroom was not a pleasant experience having to ask Housekeeping to keep spraying the bathroom on a daily basis
The grounds are lovely but unfortunately my stay in the Manor House room 301 suffered small midgy flies so everyday I had to remind housekeeping to spray the bathroom area which lasted about 12 hours. So on reflection the Valley or Meadows Lodges looked great and modern whereas the Manor House is tired looking.

United KingdomBathroom with over bath shower was fine but a little tired. No fridge to keep anything cool. The only problem is they charge £20 per night for the dog extra. Then also requested we pay an additional £50 that is deducted from a debit or credit card on top of the £420 we already paid as an insurance ??? To be refunded a few days after leaving. We declined to pay this. Other than that no other criticism.
Fabulous location with beautiful views across the valley. The twin room was spacious enough for 2 and a dog. Lovely grounds. Our 2nd floor room had a view but not all do. Tea and coffee replenished daily with biscuits. Beds were comfortable and nice fresh white linen. Soft thick white towels.
