How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The walls are thin but the other guests were all very considerate and quiet, so it was perfectly fine for our stay.
Lovely house, sparkling clean and pretty room, the kindest host (thank you Alan for letting us meet your amazing cats!), a super easy self checkin process, and overall a great stay. The thoughtful items in the little fridge, including fresh milk for morning coffee, were appreciated. It's just a short walk to the pedestrian footbridge straight to old town and the Victorian market. Highly recommended!

Our only regret is that we would have preferred a double room with our own on suite although the bathroom was excellent
It was in a perfect location, the quality of everything in the accommodation was excellent. The continental breakfast was very good. We would highly recommend the property

Alan made us feel very welcome and our room was just as advertised. Very cosy and easy walk to town. Breakfast was perfect 🥰 Fantastic shower.

Not having an en-suite, although the dedicated bathroom for our room was lovely and clean. It was a thought getting up during the night to go to the bathroom.

The shower was not properly enclosed by the shower door, and so despite our best efforts, quite a lot of water ended up on the floor.
Adorable guest house, loved the decor in the Red Squirrel room! The breakfast selection waiting in the room's mini fridge was lovely and really made the room great value for the money. Hosts were friendly and responsive and the room was clean and comfortable. Would definitely return if I was in the area again.

The only thing we didn’t like was that it would get pretty warm in the room on warm days. It would’ve been nice to have a fan as well. However, we knew ahead of time there would not be many places with a/c before the trip.
The property was very cute, clean, accommodated parking, & we loved having the small breakfast options placed in the room. We also enjoyed having the large tv with streaming services available & being walking distance from everything in town.

We stayed here at the start of our NC500 trip and at the end. Lovely room, great facilities and a friendly host. Highly recommended and would stay there again.

Excellent room, comfortable bed and a great shower. Very friendly host with excellent recommendations for where to eat. The wood fired pizza and craft beer at the Black Isle pub were excellent.

Breakfast was basic, quite minimal. Some hearthy options to put on bread, like cheese would be nice. The room (we had the Stag room) gets quite warm, and the window opens only just a little bit which makes it hard to cool down. That was a little uncomfortable during the night.
Great location and room with a clean bathroom. Breakfast is okay, a little basic. Communication went very smoothly, they actively keep you updated if the room becomes available prior check-in time.

I really liked how well thought-out and consistent the theme was. The parking was convenient, and the place was clean and easy to use. It worked very well without any staff present, as the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The location was perfect – just a little outside the city center, but still within a short walking distance.

The only downside was that there is not much air flow in the rooms beyond the window. A fan would make all the difference for sleeping.
The in-room continental breakfast was convenient and simple to get you out and enjoying the greater area sooner. The room was well decorated and comfortable.

Great location close to the centre. The room had everything we needed and the breakfast provided was lovely. Good to have a parking space so close to the centre and we would stay here again.

Great location, quiet and spotlessly clean room. The owner was very kind and accommodating and provided a superb service, down to the complimentary breakfast available in the room. I would definitely stay here again!

We missed chesse or cream chesse for breakfast. Only jam or marmelade for the toast was a bit one-sided.
Nice modern room with guest car park. We had breakfast in our room. We liked the small distance to the city and our very friendly host.
