Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe stayed 2 nights and milk, biscuits and tea bags were not replenished 2nd morning. No answer from housekeeping or reception on telephone. No tooth mugs in bathroom and room would have benefited from a good clean. Carpet needed hoovering and a lot of dust on table lamp Bathroom basin seemed clogged as water ran away slowly and toilet seat was loose. A rug under the bed needed new carpet tape as I kept tripping over it. Electric fan cable didnt reach a plug, luckily we had an extension lead with us. Room just needed a bit of tlc otherwise it was a lovely room.
Lovely hotel with a history in very good location. Beautiful extensive grounds with lovely gardens. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice. Our room in stables was on ground floor so very accessible. Room had TV, tea making facilities, a bottle of still water safe, fridge, iron and hairdryer, aircon and a floor standing fan which we needed as room got a lot of sun so could be very warm. Very large superking bed with comfortable mattress and clean sheets and duvet.

United KingdomSad it doesn’t have a gym and pool and the double bed in our room was tiny! Hardly wide enough for 2 adults!
Beautiful building in lovely grounds. The interior of the main house is stunning. Absolutely delicious breakfast buffet - one of the best cooked breakfasts I’ve had.

United KingdomLet down by evening meal where 2 of the 3 meat dishes became unavailable, averagely cooked and slow to arrive. Clearly a hiccup somewhere but compensated for by generous discount immediately offered and without quibble
Fabulous property - like being in a national trust or historic home property with beautifully coordinated furnishings, beautifully cared for and grounds to die for.

United KingdomNothing to mention - there were a few small issues, but instantly resolved so no points lost!
What a great place. The hotel has an incredible amount of character, but it was the friendly and helpful staff that made our stay so enjoyable. Take time to wander round the grounds and read the history, well worth the effort!

United KingdomStaff were wonderful although a couple certainly lacked experience nothing that a little customer service training couldn't resolve. The room decor specifically the bathrooms seem tired even though they appear to have had a revamp in recent years. .
Location is great is good surroundings. Food was also really good.

United KingdomEverything, it's a beautiful building set in amazing grounds. The room was clean and comfortable. We were half board, food and service outstanding. We also did the 5k circular walk before breakfast a great way to start the day. Lots of wildlife to see. I love walking around an old house, how lucky were we that we could stay in one! I bought the guide book explaining the history of The Elvetham, I found it fascinating. Thank you for a great stay. We will be back!!

United KingdomNothing really. The conservatory was a little warm but we were having a heatwave.
Very quiet and peaceful. Being on ground floor with aircon during hot spell was a boon. Bed was very comfortable and facilities very good. My husband and I have disabilities and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Fantastic choice at breakfast in a very pleasant conservatory. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We can understand why it is a popular choice for events. Loved the booklet detailing the hotel's history too. We managed to get a disabled parking spot in the car park despite there only being two.

United KingdomThe only downside I found was that the fans in the room were very dusty and there was not enough milk in the room to make more than 2 drinks. Also possibly 2 bottles of water put in the fridge for our stay would have been thoughtful as 2 people were staying in the room.
The grounds were spectacular, we had a wonderful stroll around after dinner. The hotel was very clean, the staff were attentive and the room we stayed in was phenomenal. I came here for my birthday and I had an amazing night away and we have already recommended this hotel to our family.

United KingdomThe add-Ons are a tad irritating mainly for meals but also room upgrades. Service at the bar (food) was pretty slow; and the main restaurant is a bit particular about pre-booking. Turned up at the main restaurant when it looked quiet and was informed they couldn’t accommodate us. Oddly enough around 15 tables were empty at that point and stayed like that till closing. The restaurant’s loss. They seem to have strict rules. If you want to dine there it would seem to be best to prebook as recommended by staff on check-in (Sam) who are friendly and helpful
The head gardener has to take a lot of credit, and those working for them. The gardens which are very varied are outstanding. The main building is a gem and also exceptionally well and tastefully maintained. Even if your taste in late Victorian architecture is not there you will still marvel at this gem. The rooms in the adjoining stables are very comfortable and well appointed if you chose not to stay in the main building. The members of staff are helpful and polite. Stayed 2 nights and would have happily stayed there for at least two more.
