I did wake up to some road noise, but you expect that being close to the town. This is a historic hotel with a lot of quirks. My room had not been upgraded but was charming.

The property is central in Plymouth. There was a grassy area close by which was convenient to walk my dog. The hotel is grand with faded glory and flowery wallpaper. My room was large with a sitting room and full bathroom. The staff were friendly and professional.

Paid for hotel parking - is very limited and I could only get a space 1 night in 4. Street parking available next to the hotel but expensive and draconian rules meaning I got a ticket at 6.06am. couldn't buy a ticket after midnight when I got there as 'the parking was closed'. Charges kick in at 6am and I didn't get there until 6:15. The guy must of been hiding in the bushes waiting licking his lips at the prospect of slapping that on the car. Also, no hot water due to plumbers employed by hotel being *****, so on my last morning I couldn't shower before going to work.

    Team, location, clean

Excellent location, near to the ferry port. Check in was very smooth and the room was lovely. Bathroom cleanliness was exceptional. I can't comment on the breakfast as I had to leave very early but the staff couldn't have been more helpful at 05.45am

I liked all but always moan at car park prices. Wish it was free but is 10£ per 24hrs. Free for my motorbike though which is good when I use that. If it was free it would be so good . (if course most hotels now charge but 10£ is the higher end)

Stayed in a single room and probably the nicest single room anywhere I have ever stayed in. A seriously relaxing stay. My go to hotel in Plymouth when the rates are favourable.

We couldn't get WiFi but that didn't matter too much for a short stay as the 4G signal was very good. The bar/lounge has been modernised and lost its character. There could be a more imaginative selection in the breakfast buffet.

It's a grand hotel with a sense of history in a good location close to Plymouth Hoe. Our room was large and comfortable, much better than expected. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Welcoming and helpful staff, lovely big room for us and our dog. Bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom clean. Great location as less than 10 minute walk to the Hoe and meant we could leave our car in the hotel carpark.

Advertised breakfast 9-10.30 Sunday but we arrived around 10 and there wasn’t much hot food available. Staff seemed in a hurry to get rid of us as quickly as possible. No offer to fetch any more food out of kitchen

Very convenient location and lovely characterful property. Our room had a super view to Drakes Island and the sea. Very friendly staff.

Rooms are a little tired and in need of some TLC. That said, choice of fabrics and wallpapers obviously high quality. Very clean with the exception of bedroom carpet which had a lot of marks. Setting up tables for lunch while still taking breakfast. Traffic noise from the road in front of hotel disturbed sleep.

Room large and spacious. Bed comfortable. Excellent breakfast, bacon was amazing! Nice bar and lounge area. Friendly staff, happy to store luggage after check out. Nice towels and toiletries. Location good for the Hoe.

Breakfast - very disappointing. It used to be really good but now there's a substandard buffet. Grey eggs, and no bacon left. Would not pay for breakfast here again.

The room was lovely, and the hotel is great - though a bit shabby. However, it's being slowly renovated.

Old-World Charm… Could Use Modern Comforts

I stayed in room 404 and feel that it could use some renovations. I understand the hotel may be aiming to create a vintage atmosphere, but a few updates would really improve the experience. For example, adding a small fridge would be very helpful—especially in summer when having cold water is a must. The wallpaper is ripped in some spots and could benefit from a refresh. Additional improvements that would make the stay more comfortable include a mini safe, better-quality towels (the ones provided had holes), and a more practical shower setup, as the showerhead cannot be picked up. That said, I did enjoy the overall vibe of the hotel—it has character—but I think it may not be the right fit for me.

I liked the old vibe of the hotel, it is also in a convenient area of the city and relatively close to the hoe park. I loved the staff, very polite and ready to help.

Slightly expensive on street parking, not that easy to sort on the phone....but that's modern life and not really the fault of the Hotel. We will arrive early if we go again and try and get in the small hotel car park.

A last minute booking, great Location, lovely historic building, great staff and a good evening meal. The Hotel is sort of days of former glory, but lovely with it. If you want a modern corporate hotel it won't be for you. However if you appreciate good warm polite service and a cosy comfortable old school Hotel, you will be in the right place. This place has a soul! Our room was slightly dated, but large and comfortable and the bathroom was to a good modern standard and as clean you will find (a rare thing these days!) Excellent value and we would love to stay again.
